  1. lol... ain't that the truth. I have a hard time thinking this was some conspiracy from the begining to end up at USC. 'SC's kicker didn't have his accident till after Congdon asked to leave. This is more like coincidence than anything else. He may have been unhappy with kicking in Lincoln (i wasn't all that thrilled about him doing it either), so he used his unlce's situation as a nice way to step aside. Now an opportunity comes along at USC where he can be close to his family, so he takes it. There's no big story here imo. the only thing close is that he mislead the fans a little with his Uncle's situation, but i don't really care that much. I'm going to ask it again-- why on earth do people hate him so much? 19 of 23? 5 of 7 (they didn't let him kick this year)... what? I just want to know why everyone perpetuates this "cogdon sucks" myth... can someone please tell me?
  2. Sometimes, I have confused thoughts for a split second immediately upon awakening. You know the sort, you dream that you have a porsché or that your long-distance girlfriend is there with you. A half second later, as your head clears, you're actually disappointed to realize that it was just dream residue and things are still as they've ever been. Well, the last couple of weekends, I've woken up thinking that there was a Husker game that day or that the championship had still to be played. This happens almost every year and it sucks! The same thing happens around christmas... Oh yeah... it happened already <sigh>. During the season, every saturday is like a holiday, I can forget about the stress and the work and the everything and just enjoy some football with my few friends who actually enjoy the game. I know that for a few hours, I will have the greatest excuse in the world to get nothing done, to cheer and groan, to be happy, sad, and angry for something that I know is a frivolity, but for a singular instant is the most important thing in the world. So when it's over, that feeling must hang on for a few weeks, compelling me to try to recall if I remembered to wash my huser reds for the game that is only going to be played in my imagination.
  3. Holy crap. Can't anyone say anything on this board that without this kind of comment? What is the point of a discussion board? To just post a lot of sycophantic drivel about how great everything is and how we just have to trust in the His Holiness Pope William I BC's infallible decisions? The "where did you coach" or "Where did you play" or any of those sort of sarcastic, over-used, and unfunny lines are right up there with "you have too much time on your hands" as my favorite methods that people use to try to discredit what someone says or does when he really doesn't have a counter-argument. Also included in this list are: -He knows more than you do about football -A true fan would/wouldn't X, Y, and/or Z [and any other statements questioning a critic's 'fandom'] -Making a post in a thread just to say how boring/pointless a thread is-- way to keep it alive, genius. Conversely, there are some topics that really ought to draw "STFU!" sorts of comments, and I've been guilty on more than one occasion. I think that number 1 is Pelini. Sure, I think he was terrific, but bringing him up in some kind of dreamy, "Wish we had him back" thread ought to open you up to any of the silencing tactics listed above Of course, using his defense to compare to later defenses with the purpose of saying "What happened here?" as opposed to "Wish we had him back" seems like a different sort of Pelili usage all together. To sort of stay on topic I am digging these TTIO threads. Definitely food for thought in the off season while I try to slowly ween myself off of college ball with NFL playoffs (hmm... what a neat idea).
  4. So as long as a lot of people say we should lose, it's okay to lose?
  5. Yes, they certainly do. 1998, 10.9 PPG #1 in the nation 1999, 12.8 PPG #2 in the nation Wait, we were supposed to be proving that Coz is teh suck. Drats... Waits for the Big 10 sucks response and the Points Per Game stat is overrated one as well. Actually, i had something snarky to say, but they had a good season in '98. I don't know how long cos was coach there, though... just those 2 years?
  6. LeKevin Smith attacked and choked a parking officer and no one did anything-- you think anyone is going to care about this?
  7. Because without those 6'3 4.4 wrs we never would have won those other championships.
  8. Some of our JuCo recruits have paid off huge, so I'm not agai'n it, but it does kind of sadden me... like we're bringing in ringers. It really makes me think that Cally is trying to jam together a couple of successful seasons (or just one) so he can get the hell out of here. You know, if I knew that a coach was looking at jucos for someone in my position, I would just leave and go play somewhere else. I think that going to JouCos too much will destroy a system... Have you seen the movie, Kicking and Screaming? It's a stupid movie with a stupid actor, but it made me laugh in some spots. Anyway, the coach gets so obsessed with winning that he brings in two Italian boys and every game plan is "Get it to the Italians!" Sure, his own players aren't very good, but they sure won't get any better by bringing in ringers and not allowing them to play. Anyway... just my thoughts.
  9. There should be an NCAA established stipend (so it can't be used as an incentive).
  10. 178 total yards and we lost... I don't think I'm alone when I sit back and ponder the question: "WTF?"
  11. Josh Bullocks was a free safety. I don't think teams are designing game plans to throw at OR away from the free safety. His defensive production went down because of the way he was positioned. Okay, so the reason the D sucked was because Coz didn't have talent.... but I pointed out that when he did have talent the D sucked as well.... Oh.... that was because the players had a new coordinator.... but that standout talent had played very well the previous year under a new coordinator..... but that was only their second new coordinator..... so when you hit three, suddenly you get out of position, tackle poorly, don't intercept passes, give up RECORD amounts of passing yards and points? Forgive me, I didn't know three was the magic number. I love how with Coz there is always an excuse for why he sucks. But with Shanle, who is only out there doing what he is coached to do, it is all his fault. SHANLE is the reason the defense sucked! SHANLE is the reason we could not pressure the quarterback! SHANLE is the reason we had second half meltdowns! SHANLE is the reason we had a team pinned at the half-foot line and proceeded to give up a 99-yard drive for a touchdown! SHANLE is the reason we had Kansas beaten badly and ended up having to hang on for a skin-of-the-ass win. Shanle is the reason our entire D looked like crap in the fourth quarter against OSU! Shanle is the reason the fake punt didn't work! So answer this question....When we can't blame it on the fact that the players had a new coordinator, and we can't blame it on Shanle (which by-the-way wasn't the problem last year...he didn't start in `05... and our defense looked like hell at times then too), who will get the blame then? Will it then be "Well he has all new starters our there now" or will it be "He needs time for the young guys to learn the system" or "He has a new D-line coach" ... what kind of excuses will you all be making for that fat piece of crap then? I have had it with COZ! He is confused, he cannot design a defense, he doesn't know how to make adjustments, he can't recruit, according to all of you Shanle haters he has the wrong players in, he lets Emo tell him that there is nobody who can play nickel coverage, so he leaves linebackers in to cover wide receivers in third and long situations, he cannot design a decent blitz package to save his ass, and he and the other defensive coaches have admitted that it is THEY (the coaches) who have been teaching (or trying to teach) the players to strip the ball instead of just tackle (to try to improve the turnover ratio). He did well enough when he coached in the Big 10(11) at Wisconsin, but then again, all they expected of their teams up there was to finish in the top three or four of the conference every ten years or so. If that is all we expect of NU, then I guess Coz is okay here too. I would just like a 20 point lead to stand up....just once in a while. All of you know that before Coz got to NU we felt pretty confident if we got up by 20. But anybody, and I mean ANYBODY, knows that this year no matter how big the first half lead we piled up, it was not safe. THAT SUCKS! And the fact that a 20-point lead is never safe at Nebraska anymore is unacceptable! I'm not saying we never blew a lead before, but under Coz we seem to blow leads all the time....hell, under Coz we seem to just BLOW! I hate to say it, but Coz might not be a total incompetent; the D really stepped up the last couple of games. I can't blame a loss to a team that only scored 17 points to the defense-- I just can't. Sure, once OU realized they could exploit our defensive backfield and drive 99.5 yards for a score, yeah, that hurt to watch. But, hey, that was only one TD! I'm not on the Coz wagon yet, but it sure seemed like he was either getting lucky or figuring something out. If the D ends up getting kicked around next year, I'll know which of those it was. Either way, the offense lost us our last two games, the D did exceptionally well (considering that OSU put 41 points on us).
  12. Shanle is the reason we got shut out by ASU in '96.
  13. Being loyal and being pissed are not mutually exclusive. It's not like people STOPPED watching or going to games just because they think our record sucks.
  14. This will have been the last season that I buy into any "best team" hype until there is a playoff and we're talking about the final winner. I didn't buy into Boise, Rutgers, USC, or Florida. I bought the "OSU is the best team evar" hype. It certainly seems that USC and Flaw'duh should have been playing for the NC, eh? USC lost a couple of games... in a playoff that wouldn't really matter so much. Do I think that boise would have beaten Florida? Hmm... well... maybe not... probably not... but I was also eager to see the beatdown that OU was going to issue them! I thought that KSU would give rutgers a game, what do I know? What does ANYONE know? Nothing, we can only guess (some guesses more educated than others, but they are guesses). Why don't we just do some skills testing at the beginning of the season and base championships on that? Because it would be stupid, right? Then WHY base championships on guessing based on past performance? ugh... it's such a mess that I'm just going to get back into it again
  15. Hahah If I didn't have classes, I might just be tempted to do that! Basketball? <yawn> Baseball? Well, at least it's nice to have on the radio while taking a nap. At least we still have NFL playoffs... Okay, I don't *really* care about any NFL teams (but I did enjoy watching Dallas choke ) but at least it's football. Aww... no matter what, we're all still football fans
  16. Pre-season ranking are *about* the dumbest thing ever. Take away pre-season rankings and who did OSU really beat to earn their constant rank of #1 until being destroyed? I think that Boise State could have taken them on with a decent chance of success. They beat a No. 2 (preseason) texas team, an iowa team with an inflated rank... Penn State did okay, I guess, in that they didn't lose to Kansas State. Michigan? Pwnd by USC. The big conferences are given WAY too much credit for being in conferences that have traditionally been good before the scholarship limits. So we have these Used-to-be great teams that keep playing each other and seem great relative to one-another, but bring in some little unknowns and suddenly saying that Michigan and OSU are powerhouses because they play a game w/in 3 points is just ridiculous. We get an athletic incest in that teams judge their performance relative to other teams in the conference. The schedule's toughness is determined by previously held beliefs about the quality of a conference. This season we learned that just because a perceived powerhouse smacks around another perceived powerhouse does not a powerhouse make. College football ain't what it used to be and nobody has any idea how to rank teams or predict performance it seems, because the old reliable Nebklahohioda State teams just aren't keeping up with the invisible competition coming from the smaller schools.
  17. Unnamed person would "Kill him." Figuratively, of course.
  18. Well, yeah, that would be stupid. See, the problem is with stupid calls.
  19. It's not the 4th down going for it that's stupid, it's the 4th and 1 well into your own territory. If he went for a 1 yard fourth and goal, I'd say "good for him!" 4th and 1 from your own 29? Makes you look like you've already lost. OSU *had* already lost. NU, not so much.
  20. Earlier today, I realized that OSU didn't really play anyone very good this year... they beat "#2" texas (who went on to lose to KSU and TAM), michigan who went on to lose to a team who lost to UCLA and Oregon State... The way that teams are reaching such a level of parity, i have to wonder if boise state couldn't have gotten up to play either of these teams. I don't see why they couldn't have taken OSU, honestly. FLorida was effing *ON* tonight... they'd have been tough to take. This just screams PLAYOFFS!, dunnit? I mean, come on, we have to base a champion on a few people's guess about who is actually better! And check it out, how many people were wrong about Boise state, USC, Florida, OSU, Texas, Michigan, etc etc? Now we have to believe that they now know *for sure* who is actually better, FLorida or Boise State. Give me a break, the way that college football has been this year, we've been shown time and time again that nobody knows jack.
  21. more words: Lost to Auburn Even more words: The BCS is the stupidest thing I have seen in a long time.
  22. A kicker would be used if they were worth half a sh!t....can we yank scholarships away from someone after giving it to them?...make Congdan pay for his freaking education...he sucks! and who was the dipstick that saw something in him and recruited his sorry a$$? What in god's name are you basing this "sucks" comment on?
  23. Yeah, that 19 of 23 was awful. Get rid of him-- less than perfect is unacceptable.
  24. That's the way that I heard it, too. It's good that he wants to be around his family, but you have to admit that if the team acted like they needed him more (only let him kick 7 times this year after he went 19 for 23 last) or that they trusted him he might have been more motivated to stick around and make things work. That seems to be BC's way, just ignore players until they leave. It seems like there is a human factor missing from this coaching staff if players are bailing the way that they are. At this level, it's not a business, there is a lot of nurturing that needs to go on-- kids need to feel like they belong. I think that BC does the Xes and Os well, but can't really figure out humans.
