  1. I disagree with your evaluation of Gerry. He was just beginning to come into his own Soph. Yr new scheme Jr. Yr looked confused most times and I believe to concerned about the rest of the secondary and knowing their responsibilities that it brought his game down. He tried to do to much. Just my two cents.
  2. I think that Carter and Westercamp are shoe ins to be drafted. Foltz maybe, but we all know about how punters are usually signed as FA's or 7th rounders. (unless you are the 49ers..smh) Maurice and Rose-Ivy need to have big years. I don't think Gerry has the speed or instincts to make the NFL. Maybe as a special teams player, but that is it.
  3. No question and I absolutely love the guy. However, over $1,000,000 for a position coach? Yes, you need to pay your best coaches. However, there has to be at least some semblance of organization in your pay scale within your staff. Are you going to do the same thing for Brey? He's done some very good things also. What if he pulls in 2-3 4* stud LBs, are you going to pay him $1,000,000 also? What then are you going to pay your coordinators that are above them? It's real easy to sit back and spend other people's money. I never stated he has earned getting $1M salary. I think the highest paid WR coach in college is around $500k. Williams will now be around $400k. I would say that is about where he should be at the moment. Still, this guy is a beast and can connect with kids in a way that a lot of other coaches on this team cannot. I was hoping we could get somone on the defensive side like him, which didn't happen. Parrella is at least a lot better than what Hughes was here.
  4. Gebbia is included with those I hope to see N. I just made reference to an earlier post relating to that.
  5. My point exactly. If he has any thoughts about POB (talent wise) while he's considering where to go, then.......
  6. To much garbage not about player. I don't comment often, but do enjoy reading post with the exception of those going off on tangents and childish BS. I'm hopeful they all become N. Realistically, two of the three is most probable at best, If Gebbia doesn't become N due to POB, then he isn't one I would want.
  7. Rex would best compare to Tony Davis 70's. The back that was good and difficult to get down. Not a real burner. Above average determination.
  8. I think he's waiting on kkl to commit. I have a good feeling about the calabassa group. If Keyshawn commits to NU, I think they all do.
  9. For those of you who are unaware of the late 60's to late 70's TO ran a pro style attack. Jerry Tagge-Played some for Green Bay, David Humm-played behind Kenny Stabler in Oakland, Vince Ferragamo-led the Rams to Super Bowl, TO's advice to Riley "run the ball". If Riley and Langsdorf don't let the horse's loose, it could be a long season. Run Tommy in sprint out options with a tailback trailing. Deadly.
  10. Well lets consider the 71 defense, whether its a different era or not. All Americans are the same in an era (best at their position that yr). They controlled the game. DC Monte Kiffin, yes the same Kiffin that led the Tampa two defense with a great middle guard (warren Sapp) his mg in 71 was Rich Glover (all american). In their perspective era's, Glover was every bit as good as Sapp. DT Larry Jacobson (another all american) 1st round pick Giants. Both linebackers to Buffalo 1st round & 2nd round) Willie Harper DE played lb for SF. My memory fades on some of the other players, but the D line was fearsome. John Dutton, & Monte Johnson-back up dt both played in NFL. At the time, several references were made to that team, one being said during an NFL game, don't remember which one, "I think Nebraska could probably beat half of the NFL teams, which we know wouldn't be the case, however, just to have that comparison is pretty lofty praise. Before the game against Alabama, the announcers were spouting off about the SEC defenses and how Nebraska hasn't faced that type of defense and the Alabama offense with their All American center, (which Glover owned) and all american running back Johnny Russo would dictate the play. Actually Russo didn't do to bad, however the final score 38-6 was exactly how the game was. Alabama could do very little against Husker D, meanwhile the Offense had little trouble moving the ball. Just an old timers take on the 71 Defense. Was it as good as 95? Hard to say, different eras as well as different schemes. For the time they played in`I'd say they were just as good. Other than Oklahoma, they weren't really threatened. Game of the Century 71 Oklahoma, if memory serves, was ranked #1 offense and #2 defense in the nation, while Nebraska was ranked #1 defense,#-Offense(dont recall exactly, It was top five I think, but I like to think of it as #@1 vs #1 and #2vs#2 in same game when teams are ranked #1 and #2, which made for a great game memorable is so many ways. You won't see that type of match up in today's game, even if it is 1 vs 2. their nation ranking for offense and defense won't approach this match up. Quick litle note, I lived in Omaha at the time 21 yrs old, and during commercials, the water company complained about difficulty in keeping up with water demand. They actually came on during commercial time and asked viewers to space restroom activities over longer periods of time. Another commercial time out, ABC shot live footage of Omaha and Lincoln and both cities looked like ghost towns. Nationally Televised broadcast on Thanksgiving Day.
  11. All of the backs were lauded when recruited. Wilbon/Taylor/Bussey are great prospects, Newby played as a freshman, use his speed and apply stick-um to hands, lol. Cross has speed size and talent, his vision is in question for me, thou, in the right system he could excel. I'm thinking it's Cross/Newby to start with, Taylor/Wilbon playing more mid season, Bussey redshirt. Riley will IMO create packages to get the most out of the talented backfield, he'll also use the receiving corp, including the TE as a weapon, not in desperation. I like the HC hire, don't know any of assistants. I do remember Riley in San Diego. I liked his style then. Just don't think he had NFL mentality. GBR
  12. I don't post on here much, but read every day. I've been blinded by my hopefulness,, Today (as with certain games in the past) Bo and his staff were completely out coached. Plain and simple.. Bo loses his cool and yells and anyone he feels screwed up. That one thing he does every game is his biggest fault at being head coach. He can't take the pressure. he is a good coach, just not HC material. Evidence of fact, IMO, When he first got here he took over a porous defense, turned it into a top 10 nationally, the offense struggled under watson, after two years Bo spent his time with the Offense, which in turn started showing improvement, then he turned it over to Beck. Then he tried being a HC and nothing fired on all cylinders.. This offseason he took the reins of the ST's, this season the ST's are vastly improved...Recruiting has improved the past couple three years, His learning curve is pretty good. His game day demeanor is his greatest enemy. Yesterday when Gerry was returning the blocked punt for a touchdown and Bo was running down the sidelines, that's when I new for certain, Bo is not a Head Coach, he doesn't have the right personality to lead men in battle when the pressure is on. In seven years, Not once has he consoled and encourage a young man after getting beat.. Example Davie yesterday. Yelling at him for not being in the right position. He may not have been in the right position, but was all over the receiver. He was just a little late to knock the ball out. Had he knocked the ball out, I'm betting Bo'sbs clapping him on the back about what a great play that was.. He gets beat and instead of Bo coaching him on better technique on getting his hands in to knock it out, Bo's pissed because he didn't keep outside leverage. Would that have made any difference, I don't recall seeing either safety close to the play. The Head coach has to be a firm father figure, with both love and discipline. Bo has these qualities, He's just missing the most important one. Calm. he loses his mind when things don't go the way he plans it out. He blames everyone on the sideline except the real culprit, himself..If he remained calm during the battles of the war, he's find success so much easier to obtain. He gets frazzled which doesn't allow him to adjust to what's happening. Ah what the hell am I saying, Bo's scheme is exploited by good coaching staffs every year. It''s the same type of play over and over and over, I sometimes feel like I'm watching Ground Hog Day. Bo needs to go. No matter what type of staff changes are made, the product on game day will be the same. If were playing a team we a far superior to, Bo stays calm and we kick ass.. If were playing a team that's as talented, more talented or better coached, Bo loses his cool every time and the team folds. The leader shows the way, when things go wrong it's yours fault and fingers get pointed, especially by Bo I wasn't part of the fan base that wanted TO gone (in 78 I think). I was really concerned when he interviewed at Colorado. I couldn't imagine losing to Colorado every year. I haven't been part of the fan base that wants and has wanted Bo to go. I guess it's like osmosis, oh, I see it now. Bo is the problem, whether it's his judgement in hiring his assistants then micro mange them, berating them on national tv, getting in the face of anyone including refs if things go wrong. He is plain and simply a loose cannon on competitive game days. I've heard fans go on and on about not getting a coach here due the difficult situation, be it recruiting difficulties, fan expectations, and such.. I'll admit I was with some of those reasons to keep Bo, however after the minny loss, it seems to me these past two weeks, that Bo has been out coached by whom exactly, a second yr head coach and a head coach that's won at every level he's been at. So yes, there are coaches out there that have the moxy to come into this situation and become much more successful that bo has.... Jerry Kill would have gone undefeated up to this point this yr with the talent at Nebraska. So would have Anderson for that matter. Bo has to go for Nebraska to get back to National prominence. No championships of any kind will find it's way to Lincoln via football.. Now look at the coach we have for BB,, find me a Tim Miles of football..GBR
  13. If a change is made, I'd like a Tim Miles clone except in football.
  14. From a former Boliever, you really don't need a recap, it's just a rerun..
  15. BP is a great def coordinator, not very good as head coach.. he lets his heart dictate his choice in assistants... I don't know who you could possibly bring in when you fire a 9 win coach, but Nebraska has to do something or resign themselves to being an also ran... 56 yrs I've bleed Husker red and I've never witnessed the type of losses we have under the past two coaches... Change is needed from the top down... I am sick of the same old same old... I feel bad for the players, they follow this staff with blind faith.. it's to bad we don't have coaches that can handle pressure... Hire Scott Frost he can't do any worse than Bo. Scott would probably hire a Def Coor than can bring back blackshirt dominance instead of the bend don't break bulls==t bo brings... I can't believe TA is still in the game.... get a clue Bo
  16. i've been in TA's corner this season due to his experience.. now I'm of a mind that any of the QB's could perform at least this well... 1 of 10 is absolutely unacceptable.. open receivers, and receivers dropping or not catching balls that should be.. what happened to JW the first half, not one thrown his way.. This looks like jr high s__t/ I'd give RF a shot it couldn't b any worse, if that doesn't pan out let JS have a shot. QB play has to be alot better than what TA has shown this season, he can't pass for sh#t, and he isn't that great a runner.. I don't care how athletic he is. I'm tired of watching this talented bunch of Huskers get embarrassed by the likes of an average Wisconsin team..Coaching decisions suck big time..on both sides of the ball.. BP has some tought decisions to make at the end of this season.. We need a real coordinator on both sides to take this team to the next level.. BP may be doing it right, but he isn't a head coach... Pray for second half turn around...GBR
  17. Don't you get tired of that SEC hype all of the time. Mizzou and Texas A&M were middling teams in the Big 12 as far back as I can remember. Then they go to the SEC where Mizzou played in the title game last year (did they EVER play for a title in the Big 12?) and A&M handled Bama down there when Bama was all that. Oh, and I think the Huskers took care of Georgia last year. Spare me on the SEC kudos. It seems to me the younger fans have a problem with the sec bias, like it just started... after the 70 season, the Huskers ranked #1 and facing Alabama in the orange bowl, the pregame and game announcers harped on how the Huskers hadn't faced a strong sec defense like Alabama had.. (the previous season in which the Huskers ended up #1, they beat LSU in the Sugar bowl, another sec power defense) the bias has been there as long as I've been a CFB fan, 1958. Pregame 1996 national championship game against Florida, the pregame and in game commentators all praised the Sec supremacy on both sides of the ball.. As History shows, 71 team embarrassed Alabama 38-6, and you younger fans should remember the 96 game 62-?? (so out of hand, I don't recall Florida's final tally, 19 I think). So you see, the bias has always been there. The sec's run during the BCS era has fueled the bias to a degree that's laughable.. If you look at the bowl games during the BCS era, you'll find the sec played lower ranked teams within their conference .. example,,, sec #3 plays big 12 #5 or sec #6 plays acc #7.. it's no wonder the stats shows dominance during that era... They are no better than any other conference.. take the best of the sec and place them in another conference and you'd find they would have a difficult time navigating the season with less than 3 losses.. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Like it or not (sec fans). The truth is what it is. GBR
