  1. USC on the road is gonna be tough. Even without williams, riley's track record suggests he'll have a qb humming, who knows what they look like defensively. Im not saying we cant win most of those games. It's just a much tougher slate compared this past year when it was a crap msu and maryland heading into wiscy/iowa. I hear ya on the wiscy and iowa call outs that being said, one of those progrums we havebnt beaten since 2012 and the other weve only beaten once since 2014. I need to see some W's consistently against those before i dont consider it a tough game
  2. Its so critical we run the table the first 7 weeks or start 6-1 at worse next year. That last 5 game stretch of ohio state, ucla, usc, wisconsin, iowa is scary AF yet gonna be awesome
  3. I expect some major WR recruits taking a look at us for the 2025 cycle if we sign DR. Recruits that most likely would not consider us as of a week ago
  4. I think many assumed he was going to be reggie bush for us, which, is really unrealistic standards lol. He did redefine what a back could look at like at nebraska with being a threat in both the run and passing game. I think we all had heisman expectations and view him as a disappointment relative to that when in reality, he was a pretty filthy back and would be by far the best back we've had since Ameer if he was on this squad now.
  5. This would be the biggest recruiting win in Husker history. #1 ranked QB and top overall recruit depending on the service you look at. Suh became a beast here but as a recruit, he didnt have the hype like this. Marlon lucky probably most applicable in the 00's. You might be right on Sims. Couldn't we still had this outcome and not turn the ball over a bajillion times tho? surely a middle ground could have been had
  6. Ah, I thought he made some kind of announcement or confirmation we werent in the running anymore? Agreed- we should spin up another thread and try and consolidate
  7. I hear ya and agree with 99% of it. To be fair tho, DR and 2AM are completely different QBs. DR is the caliber of qb a program gets maybe once every 10-20 years unless you're ohio state. I also think we've seen enough from Rhule and co to trust they wouldn't just give an 18 year old kid the job for sure for 4 years. My biggest concern is we got our hopes up and raiola doesnt come here. After the mccord news it would be the most nebraska offseason ever to be jacked up at the news that hit within 24 hours only for us to get none of them
  8. I just wanna say I have nothing to add on either side, but I like the passion and discussion. Carry on
  9. I think some of the recruiting services lock in the pick and dont allow them to change. That was brought up on I think the husker corner podcast last week when Callahan and sipple had that guy from on3 on.
  10. Rhule and Satt from day 1 have said they want to be power run but also throw it down field. I actually hope we get stacked boxes because it opens them up to get torn up in the passing game and one of our strengths in the next few years should be our TEs in fidone and nelson). Ideally we're running 11/12 and their team has no idea if we're running or passing (unless its an obvi pass or run down). Box count is overrated and the previous poster saying its the most important/OL play is overrated is laughable. specially in today's game of football where often a team comes out in a formation, checks the opponent, looks at the sideline and then audibles/adjust. Letting box count dictate success and how we play screams football from 20 years ago.
  11. Box count had nothing to do with us getting roasted by the play by play guy against michigan for pointing out how our OL chronically had their hips pointed sideways and ceding leverage because of our own crap play which basically allowed michigan DL to waltz right into our backfield play, after play, after play. Said problem wont be fixed by having the world's best QB- if equally talented or more talented teams break down the pocket and are in the backfield more often than not, than the concept of box count doesn't even matter because they can get the pressure they need by rushing 4 and brining in a blitzer or 2. As I said, box count is important. But more foundational than that is the play of your line. If you think understanding box count can hide s#!t o line play, well, then i see no point in reading your comments either. Also, in the bold. Nice try throwing some sass my way- u actually did respond to the rest of my comment given my wiscy example and you countered that first lol. Toodles!
  12. There is so much murkiness with the rules, or lack of rules today. For instance, Rhule can still use that provision i mentioned, a guy wouldnt be on the team but he'd retain his scholarship as promised to continue his education. However, I believe if a players enter the portal he basically gives up his scholly/gives the progrum a chance to rescind.
  13. I need to read more on what this means. I'm still trying to figure out if Rhule has the ability to move players off scholly in his first year. In doing some research and other boards, I'm 95% sure rhule basically has through the end of this school year (May 2024) to reduce roster down to 85 via that "first year coach" provision. There's some confusion if the first year means 12 months after hire date, or if is the first full school year (calendar). If we truly do land Raiola and mccord, something tells me we'll be in the running for a few other guys who would be welcome additions to the team. Somepoint we gotta get down to 85.... It sure would be nice if the NCAA can just say the players from the covid year still in college do not count against the 85. The whole free year of eligibility and not doing anything about actual roster limits is creating some unnecessary headaches.
  14. Rhule about to do the same over the next 45 days
  15. I wouldn't call your comment controversial, I'd say its completely off base and based off nothing lol. Box count, QB presence/decisions and line play all impact one another. that being said, to say OL is overrated is an insult to football in general and to what Nebraska has been and what it is trying to become. You can look at many reasons as to why we've turned to utter crap the past 20 years- the biggest culprit, in my opinion, is the clear decline in o line talent and play. We've had one too many years the past decade of not placing a single guy in the draft or even come close to draft consideration on the OL. We've had seasons where not one, but multiple of our starters, rank towards the bottom or dead last in graded out line play. This is inexcusable. We can get mccord and all these qbs/transfers all we want, but until the days of our LT getting absolutely embarassed by the michigans of the world are over, we will never be a consistent player for a playoff spot. I don't know how you can say the biggest component of the running game is box count- we as husker fans literally pump our chests whenever we can bragging about the glory days and how we used to tell opponents where we were going and they still couldnt stop it. Up until Fickell was brought in, we knew damn well wiscy was running it and we still give up a ncaa record, in 3 quarters. Sure, box count plays a role- I'd much rather run against 6-7 guys in the box vs 9-10. But OL play remains either 2nd or 3rd biggest area for consistent success (ranking qb 1 and qb rush/DL as 2/3).
  16. I would sincerely hope McCord alone would be the difference between a 5/6 win squad and an 8-9 win squad. If we simply had a qb that was 75% of the caliber McCord is this last year we'd have most likely finished the year 9-3/10-2 and the male population of the husker fan base would be walking around with perpetual hard ons.
  17. Why cant we all be friends? In defense of Georgia, i've had a blast in athens on gameday a couple times. Great fans and great experience. All fanbases/pockets in the country have the small % that spew irrational thoughts. Lets rise above it as we swoop their 5*
  18. I think he'll be just fine. Given Dylan's history of switching schools annually, I'd be shocked if he doesn't sign, enroll early and is on campus in Feb for spring practice.
  19. Well, Raiola doesn't fall in this category. Last I checked he never signed, enrolled, or took part in practice/a game at georgia. Unsure how he spurned us already when hes still in high school
  20. He's not gonna announce he's de-committing until hes locked in somewhere else. This isnt like the summer when he still had 8 months to make a decision.
  21. Its ok to be pumped at the recruiting momentum and also watch and support the women's volleyball team.
  22. You mean the same carson beck who is undecided if hes going pro? Lemme know if there's another carson beck im blanking on
  23. I think what likely happened is there is uncertainty if Raiola would be playing next year at Georgia. If all is equal and he has more of a connection/feels like home here, it becomes a much easier choice to play for nebraska. I'm sure rhule has been upfront saying McCord would be slotted in #1 on depth chart but not a for sure thing and Dylan would have a chance to win the job. As far as money is concerned, something tells me Georgia has no problem matching/out do what we can offer. Its not like Dylan is potentially leaving a Big12/Pac12 school. Perhaps the easiest answer is the Raiola family has lived in georgia for a bit now and maybe they've found out the lifestyle/scene just isnt for him.
  24. Its not the solich curse man, its the curse of scott frost. We won a title in 97 largely due to the flea kicker catch, it required future decades worth of goodwill and karma to make happen for TOs last ride. It sent us is a downspin for 27 years that could only be stopped by an equally bad disaster aka the frosty era. lets get ready for another 27 years of husker glory
