  1. Yeah, the players aren't acting like a bunch of sheep and are trying to fix it themself. The last few years it seemed like they were punching a clock and couldn't wait to get home. Maybe it's my imagination , but Tommy seems like a driven player....probably had to make him come in out of the rain when he was a kid.
  2. Having a receiver who can go the distance along with a runner like Ameer should have the same effect.
  3. I was under the impression that the committee would pick the best teams at the end of the season, basketball style. I don't see the point in all this useless drama. Many of these teams are set to cancel out with inter-division games anyway. To the OP.....will Nebraska make the playoffs.....I'm thinking it's highly unlikely, but stranger things have happened. I remember when a Crouch quarterbacked team ended up in the NC after every team that should have been there crapped its pants. Edit: I think we might need to prove we can pass to convince the committee that we have a legit chance at being competitive against the best. Do the advertisers want to pay millions for the nation to watch us get stomped...think about it?
  4. How and why should we be 8-0? The first three quarters against Michigan State it looked like we sent a bunch of purty mouthed boys into the Georgia woods.
  5. The article seems like a cheap shot to me, which is typical of Dirk;....always trying to get a rise. Somehow he thinks some great strategery should have overcome that weak effort by the Jimmys and Joes who basically got the same plays they've gotten all season but couldn't execute against a defense that did it's job. If you want to blame the coaches, blame them for not gameplanning around the best players on the offense.......which would include Ameer (tried that), Pierson-El (didn't try that), and Westercamp (half-hearted try). I'd say Bell but he appears to be terminally injured and we just have to be happy with whatever he's able to do. Once again, it has a heck of a lot more to do with the Jimmys and the Joes than the Timmys and the Bos.
  6. Agree, but call to TA's strengths. Look at his body of work over the this and last season. See which pass plays he does well and build the passing attack around those. Different formations, motions, sets etc,,,,but the same passes. Don't throw passes he has trouble connecting on (receiver drops or poor throws) just because they are in our play book. That's my concern/issue with our play calling. I agree, but any QB should be able to throw outlet passes to backs and short slants when needed. They need to do whatever it takes to make those automatic for Tommy. He was pretty good today statwise........I'm still concerned that this was an illusion and any pressure in our backfield will turn us into a circus again.
  7. Some of you guys don't seem to understand that we need to be good at passing if we're going to beat the best teams and the only way to do that is to call pass plays in real games when the opportunity presents itself. That's smart coaching.
  8. The Heisman is a beauty contest where the winner is chosen from the top teams in the country except for the rare exception when a player is so far above the rest that they just can't ignore him without looking like fools. I don't pay much attention to it.
  9. I think I learned that Tommy needs practice passing under pressure......put a green shirt on him and let our D go after him while he tries to run nothing but pass plays. It's okay for Tim to practice in a real game like he did when we're up by 21, but I don't see us getting the kind of pressure from weaker uninspired defenses that Tommy will need to get good enough to handle the tough ones. Otherwise we'll come up against a stone wall when we play somebody good. I think Tommy has improved every game, but he still has some bugs to work out. Edit: I still say it's more the Jimmys and the Joes than the Timmys and the Bos. Our coaches are providing good enough strategy for good players to get the job done and we just need guys to keep stepping up and making plays.
  10. I'm guessing that the backups don't get as much help as they need if they have to constantly work on fixing the starters........then when the backups are called into action because of injury or whatever, you notice the difference right away at the positions that require more thinking than energy.
  11. I agree.....many times it's been hard to watch the players pass the gun around and shoot themselves in the foot. There will always be occasional mistakes but it shouldn't be like what we've been seeing.
  12. I think it's absolutely necessary to do it and to be able to do it right under pressure if we want to have a chance against the top defenses and don't want to look like the first three quarters of MSU again. Hopefully Pierson-El will play a bigger part in it. Black 41 Flash Reverse Passes are pretty good too.
  13. I learned that they actually practiced the right stuff. Whether they can get the right players on the field to do the right stuff is anybody's guess. A worthless first half and a great second half...what does that mean? I don't know??
  14. Looks like fresh legs made a difference on D. Always thought Gangwish was a good player.
