  1. Not that this makes him a guru, but he did play safety at Stanford as well as safety in the NFL. From a playing standpoint, he's pretty well rounded playing both safety in college as well as QB and safety in the NFL. I'm not really sure how he ever became a WR coach. I have no doubt he'll be a head coach someday, but I highly doubt it's ever here. What's the over/under on the amount of years Chip Kelly makes it in the NFL? he's also coached on the defensive side of the ball at northern iowa
  2. i wouldnt mind sending some of our coaches over to oregon in the off season to see how they do thing maybe for a coaching clinic or something like that, i've heard however they practice is just insane some announcer was quoting a NFL executive and said he had never seen such a disciplined high tempo practice even for an NFL team couldnt hurt to see how one of the best prepare their players
  3. That's exactly the problem for me, though. There are some coaches on this staff that probably shouldn't be in the position they're in at a university like Nebraska, specifically JP. He was a "defensive intern" at LSU for four years, then followed Bo here, where he went from special teams coordinator to defensive coordinator in five years. It took him five years to take over a head coordinating job at a premier division one football university. That's unreal. Pelini for all intents and purposes is in charge of the defense. If that's true, then what's the point of JP, what is his role, and how does it contribute to the team's goals? Papuchis also had the title of DE coach, which basically amounted to him being the Assistant DL coach. For 2011, Carl "supposedly" took over full time DC duties so that Bo could put more time in with Beck in developing an offensive system, hence making Papuchis the DL coach exlusively. I put trust in Bo that he see's something in Papuchis. He's been with John for many years already. I trust that Bo is in a hell of a lot better position that any of us here to make that call. i'm just not sure what Papuchis job is if bo is the D. coordinator and coach Kaczenski is now the d line coach and els is the recruiting coordinator what specifically does Papuchis do now does he help on the D line does he help Bo with drawing up the game plan does he call any plays why give him the tittle of being the D coordinator? and as long as the defense struggles i dont think its unfair for fans to give him and Bo a hard time
  4. i love the optimism of some of you guys predicting a 11-1 season or even 12-0 when this defense could have a hand full of guys starting you havent seen play since their high school highlight tapes, why would you get your hopes up so high? just say we'll go 9-3 or 10-2 like every regular season and if we do go 11-1 or 12-0 you'll be even that more suprised and happy
  5. +1 I agree 100% with this. Agree also, but would add that no other coaches would have been able to do any better with the amount of injuries we had on Defense. and the lack of DT talent What? shouldnt he have adjusted the system to fit the players he had on the field? i know there was a lack of talent on the field but come on guys OSU put 63 on this team UCF held them to 31 and UAB held them to 29 is the talent on this years defense really THAT BAD i dont think you can explain this years struggles a way by just saying its because of injuries or lack of talent some of the blame has to go on the coaches
  6. I dont think so either. It's easy to squeak out the close wins when there's nothing on the line and no consequences. We'll see how great they are next year when there's outlandish expectations to live up to. I believe they'll get nipped a couple times as well. The reason I say that is pretty much what you just described. When you have no bowl game to play for, there is very little pressure on your football team. But when you're trying to win a conference championship and get to a BCS bowl or the National Championship game, there is all kinds of pressure. USC is a perfect example of that. Undefeated last season on probation, preseason #1, and six losses this season. There were more factors that contributed to that outcome than just the added pressure, but I think it was the biggest part of it by far. dont think USC went 12-0
  7. I remember last year he was MVP of the bowl game he played in. I thought he dealing with injuries this year? I didn't think he was benched. I don't really follow Illinois football that much though, I guess. LOL this is pretty funny, admit you dont know what your talking about right after predicting that he will have a career day against Pelini. Youve become a real Pelini hater lately. So was Scheelhouse benched or not? I thought he was dealing with injuries. If he was benched, then I'll admit I didn't know that. But if he's healthy and starting is it really outside the realm of possibility he could have a career day against an inexperienced Pelini defense? He's a tremendous athlete. It has nothing to do with hate, not sure where you're getting that from. My prediction is based purely off observation. Again, anyone who uses the term "hater" in 2013 is not to be taken seriously. It's a dumb word, stop using it. he's been benched a couple of time this year and last for Reilly O’Toole atleast i think thats the guys name pretty sure he was pulled in their loss to Louisiana Tech
  8. I predict that the defense wont get its blacksirts at the beginning of the season and that they will play in no less than 12 regular season games
  9. that could have bought a lot of books and paid a lot of teachers I bet it will. Sellouts of 18,000 bring in a lot of money. hope so i read some where that this stadium cost like 60 million dollars to make, just sayin that 60 million could have gone towards better things at that school like things that help the kids learn
  10. Scheelhaase hasnt even been able to hold on to his starting job the last two years i cant see him having his way with nebraska's defense
  11. i was really impressed by how green played at the end of last season, this year not so much he has blown coverages all year
  12. That's a tall order for this defense sans Baker. Perhaps if the talk about going to a 3-4 base defense were more than just talk?...I dunno... I would like to point out that my thoughts proved to be right. Too bad we still lost the turnover battle, otherwise I think we would have won. Good call on that. I just didn't see our defense being able to stop the run, but they were able to slow it down and forced Georgia to pass more often than they probably wanted to(?) they did force two TO's but they didnt play decent
  13. that could have bought a lot of books and paid a lot of teachers
  14. dont you think kevin williams is a bit small? i think he's only like 270 also was he hurt this year i didnt see him much
  15. I completely agree, I am just asking what if. It is also annoying that Bo has a high paid yes man on staff. my bad i see what you're saying in that case i would like a clone of nick saban
  16. Nice try NIU you gave it a good effort and will get a HUGE check for playing in the game

    1. NUance

      NUance

They sure hung tough for three qtrs. Played a great game.

  17. Bo will never hand over full control we are stuck with the coaches we have
  18. Bo is the Defensive coordinator you're kidding yourself if you think Coach Pap does anything more than just agree with Bo and smile
  19. yeah i know pelini coached at LSU i'm not that stupid thats why i said most of the coaching staff not ALL the coaches
  20. coach joseph probably understands this better than most on the staff he's seen the SEC teams and their talent level from his days coaching at Tenn. and L. Tech now all the coaches have to do is go and get the players to be able to compete, i'd like to have a few more coaches like Joseph on this staff young but proven guys that can recruit
  21. it was nice to hear but what else was he suppose to say they're just as bad as the other interior guys i've recruited...i hope they are WAY WAY better than who we had this season and they all contribute ASAP i'm sure there will be growing pains playing younger guys but those growing pains cant be any worse than the way the defensive line played this year i hope it will all be worked out by confrence play
  22. coach Joseph kinda said the samething today after the game, he was a little nicer about it but him and Coach Pap both said this defense lacks the athletes to compete with the big boys...BUT they did say it should be more athletic next year so like we say at the end of every season maybe next year http://www.omaha.com/article/20130101/HUSKERS/701019875/1002#shatel-bo-s-upbeat-message-harkens-back-to-an-nu-turning-point
