  1. Amen. The Lady Huskers should cruise through (at least) this weekend. Let's get it started, ladies!
  2. It's about time! haha Glad that the season and home opener is here. I'm looking forward to seeing what this team is made of, what they will come out with, and how they'll play against a beatable opponent at home. I'd like to see Taylor Martinez come out rolling, Bo have the defense amped up, and the fans going crazy. This is a big year for NU & Pelini. Important that we come out and win (convincingly) because the expectations are there.
  3. They've got a pretty good CHL team from what little I know, but I think they'd be worried about trying find enough support for the team... I truly don't know. A lot of people bitch about it in Portland - and there were rumors that if Phoenix's other bid (that eventually kept them in PHX) didn't work out we were ready to buy them, as the Rose Garden is an NHL-ready arena already. Also, a few years ago, I guess Paul Allen almost bought the Pittsburgh Penguins. You mean the WHL? The Portland Winterhawks? They are good, but don't get nearly the draw an NHL team would get. The Penguins were never "seriously" going to be sold. The whole relocation idea/talk was total nonsense. It was just a threat for the city to build the team a new arena. The team complained how Mellon Arena was old, outdated, and the Penguins were not able to generate $ as other teams with new arenas could. Mario Lemieux and the team came out said all this after the deal for CONSOL Energy Center was put in place. Kind of a crappy scheme for an owner to use to get a new arena, and not really fair by lying to the fans, either. Anyway, I'm not a big fan of those USA Olympic jerseys. They're OKAY, IMO, but not great. They might grow on me when I watch games with the team wearing them.
  4. Seattle and Quebec City.... Bank on it... Well, Yahoo! Sports had an article this week that the NHL wants to expand to Seattle. Given the Western Conference has 14 teams and the East has 16, there is room for expansion in the West. The rumors are Seattle is probably going to be a city that will land a franchise. Though I understand there are 2 issues the NHL wants cleared up - finding an ownership group in the area to purchase and support a team & details about a new area. If those can be addressed, then expansion is very likely. As for another city out west, I am not sure. Quebec City also popped into my mind as an ideal expansion. Word has also been a second team in Montreal and Toronto or Hamilton, ON. There was an east coast team that was told that it would not be a "good idea" for them to move their minor league franchise to Seattle. Seattle got boned twice this year, once with the NBA team and the NHL. Seattle has a built in rivalry with Vancouver, you move Detroit back to the west, and Quebec City. Toronto wouldn't surprise me in the least. I believe Bettman has hinted, if not publicly made it out to be, that the likelihood of bring an NHL franchise to Seattle is a very good possibility. That is why I say Seattle is where an expansion will occur. I'd like to see another team in Toronto (or Montreal), and a team back in Quebec. There used to be 2 teams in Montreal... way back when. I think when Pittsburgh signed Rob Scuderi it was a signal they were not going to bring Murray, or any of their other FAs, back. Murray was a good "rental", IMO. He played physical and provided that element the Penguins needed. I wish him well in Montreal (minus when he plays Pittsburgh; Pens fan here!).
  5. Word on the street is these "gone nutty" version do not taste great? Did you have yours toasted or not toasted? I found, from a personal perspective, not toasted pop tarts taste grainy, much like dirt. When they are toasted I believe the taste is not as bad. I tried them both ways. Toasting them does make the peanut butter filling have more of a normal peanut butter consistency. Still not great. That's kind of what I figured. Toasting helps some, but it's still a highly processed food, lol. Thanks for the feedback, sir.

  7. Reminds me of Boise State's blue turf and Eastern Washington's red turf in NCAA football.
  8. What about the Florida teams? They are in the same divisions with teams in the northeastern part of the country. They have long flights to play division foes too...
  9. If I had to make a criticism of the SEC's non-conference schedules, it's that they play 1 or 2 great opponents, then the rest are joke schools. They also use leverage that their conference schedule is difficult to help say that they have played an extremely tough schedule. Its used for tv. But on the note of playin lower teams in Nov. Would you rather Nebraska have to play a conference game right off the bat, sometimes in that first game or play your gimmies to warm up. Also most play 3-4 great schools in conference.. Both the east and west have 3 high level teams. Plus nearly every elite SEC school has a major BCS rival they play every year. Just like in the b10 your cross games can make you look better than you are (vandy) who avoided the big 3 in the west. Or you can catch 2 of the three best. If OSU is as good as advertised and we were to somehow manage running then board then beating them in the CCG our SOS would almost certainly be good enough to get us in the big game The Bucks have another weak non-conference schedule this fall - vs. Buffalo, vs. Florida A&M, at Cal, vs. San Diego State. IMO Cal won't challenge them even though it's a road game. OSU also lucks out in that their B1- road games are at Illinois, Purdue, Northwestern, and Michigan. Playing the former 3 is a HUGE break... I would rather play a big game right off the bat. I know most Big Six FBS schools play "cupcake" teams right off the bat. This can be beneficial to work out any issues and get an easy win. But I think it's a greater experience and challenge to play another Big Six school, or even open with a conference game in Week 1. It's a great way to measure how much spring ball has paid off and what the team is made of right away. Plus, it gets the kids to play up to a different level. They can go into the game with a tough mentality where they are going to play a school on similar talent level, as opposed to a much weaker team.

  11. Hit him so hard, it becomes a yard sale... hat, douchebag sunglasses, those stupid shoes, all over the place... Matt Cooke should put an illegal hit on him. LOL

  13. This is pretty funny. Thank you for sharing! ********* Missouri!
  14. He had 5 points in 9 games, I believe. TK's performance was definitely there in the playoffs, I agree. I've heard both sides of the coin on that trade. Some liked him, some didn't. I see it somewhat as a cost savings. I also believe he was expendible for a draft pick.
  15. I agree and we should challenge Wiscy for the title, as I said, in the coming years. It would be great for us to beat them a couple times.
  16. I have a problem with that, I still think Rask deserves it... Had the Bruins not surrendured 2 goals in 17 seconds to lose the Cup, I think Rask may have won it regardless of the outcome in what would have been Game 7. true, but the fact that everyone seems to forget is he held Pittsburgh, who a lot of people had winning the Stanley Cup, to 2 goals... Yes that is true. I think had Boston forced a Game 7, that might have been enough leverage to provide Rask the Conn Smythe. Just the way he's played the entire post-season has been great. I agree with you that he shut down Pittsburgh, but I think a lot of the Conn Smythe weight is during the Cup Finals, even though the award is given out for effort during the entire post-season. That is unfortunate.

  18. I agree about Wisconsin. They seem to reload every year. But I will be interested to see how they play without Bielema leading them. Not saying they will regress, but I wonder how long it may/will take them to adjust to a new coach. I think if NU gets it together in a couple years we could be challenging them on an annual basis for the West Division title. Iowa should be back soon and that will add a little more intensity to the division. But first things first, let's see some improvement this fall!
  19. Nice story, HuskerTed. There are @$$holes/bad apples everywhere. Personally, I wouldn't have said anything, but that's just me. I'm not one to talk non-sense. On a side note, NU OWNS Mizzou in football, so it's funny to see their fans talk out their @$$holes. The Huksers won the last 2 meetings with the Tigers before they left for the SEC. So we've had the last laugh. If anything I'd be embarrassed to pull non-sense on a Huskers' fan. But goes to show people have the balls to do it...
  20. It's not a matter of what we "need", it's a matter of what is wanted. Regardless, what does the statement in red have to do with the statement in black? Fair point with the "need" vs "want." On a side note, there was no intended meaning behind the statement in black and red. I just used the red text color because it's Nebraska's main color. Anyway, I do think you hit the nail on the head in this discussion. I will concede that many of today's younger generation "want" these alternate uniform games. My point is I just don't think we as a program, based on our tradition and history need to go to these kind of efforts. If you want to compete for the youth you have to be appealing to them in any way you possibly can. You see a lot of the more "traditional" football powers have all had some sort of alt uni. It's not a since of selling out, but just keeping up with the times. Kids like new unis. Not all of them want to look like the huskers of the 60s and 70s. You have to adapt with the times. Not saying go all Oregon or Maryland, but have an option there to be able to market to a recruit. I disagree. I don't think adding an alternate uniform game sells the program any more than sticking with traditional unis. I would say, if anything, kids would want to play for a school that has a rich tradition, with constant uniforms over time than one dawning an alternate uniform every season. Just my two cents.
  21. Hey I agree with you. Keep the traditional uniforms all season - red at home and white on the road. NU is one of many programs to have not changed their uniforms to the extreme over the years. Just keep them how they are!
  22. I can agree the current divisions are only for the time being. The Big Ten just expanded to the East with Maryland and Rutgers... I'm not sure they would add any big schools from the south that are currently in the SEC like Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, etc. However, IMO, if they do attempt to expand further south, plucking ACC schools like UVA and maybe a Carolina school or two is possible. Cincinnati also may be another possible target. That would give the state of Ohio two B10 programs. Aside, the only other southern schools aside from the ACC and SEC are in current non-Big Six conferences such as C-USA. I don't see the B10 grabbing for those schools. I like your idea of playing a more aggressive non-conference schedule. It would be great to see Nebraska play traditional powers like it used to. More exciting games, more television, more big games for the school and the fans are all benefits. Plus, it would give us a good measuring stick as to our program against some of the top powers in the country. In order for that to be a benefit, we need to pick up our recruiting and level of play. As you say, doing this could also be a disaster on the other hand. If we aren't up to are competition, then yes it would not be great for all the aforementioned benefits.
  23. I generally agree. Maybe NU can beef up their non-conference schedule to compensate for playing against weaker division opponents? The cross-over games should rotate, right? Meaning, NU could play OSU and UM is some years.
  24. The East/West thing makes sense. Wisconsin has no national championships but we have been a major player for most of the past 20 years. If we'd had Martinez, we'd have beaten Stanford... Iowa is also strong. In today's terms, they are the equal of Penn State. Without the scandal. Minnesota has 6 national championships, though the program is in a dormant phase. But who knows... maybe they can become decent. Illinois has Red Grange, one of the greatest football players of all time at any level. They also won a couple of NCs and though not consistently good, now and then they recruit their state well and have the ability to win 10 games. Purdue... there is sporadic history there. they will struggle in the West most years. Northwestern -- they finally won a bowl game and have been competitive over most of the last 10-15 years. they will never beat the huskers when the huskers are good, but they will compete with you most other years. I'm with you on the geographical realignment. It may not offer the most ideally competitive divisions, but it makes sense in terms of schools traveling. I think that is the major force. Schools want to spend as little $ as possible traveling to play road conference games. Why have Nebraska and Maryland in the same division? That's flying nearly half way across the country for a DIVISIONAL game. How much sense does that make? Very little.
