  1. Well that and perhaps because the only coach Alabama had between Stallings and Saban with a winning record was Coach Fran.
  2. I agree. I don't think we're that far from making it to the next level in our performance. We are paying for Pelini's recruiting inexperience now, but I think he's got a better handle on that. I very much agree with you that he's had to learn on the job.....that's actually one reason I want him to stay. I think he's learned a lot and we should beneficiary of that, not another university. I know you and I are on the same page about not wanting to go through another coaching change. I'm just not interested in attacking Pelini right now. I'm more interested in specifically what we are doing at LB, safety and QB than taking jabs at Pelini.
  3. I know.....we are Nebraska. Why will this be our 3rd coaching change in 15 years if the above is correct?
  4. Yep. All of the above. There will be a little blowback about the 10 win seasons and fanbase expectations, but at this point the college football universe understands that Nebraska isn't working as it should and I don't think many would defend Pelini. At least not in private. They might not defend Pelini. They just wouldn't apply for his former position. Other schools pay similar in better recruiting area. Briles and the state of Texas for example.
  5. If everyone knew how to beat Bo, he'd be 0-13. You can call that Minnesota video a prediction if you like. He said what they would do based on how many we played in the box. I can't speak to other coaches respect to Pelini's scheme or coaching and my Spidey senses tell me you can't either. If you say he blames things on the players enough, you might start to believe it. He says we need to execute. My guess is whomever your favorite coach is (and I'm well aware it ain't Pelini) says the same thing. Someone will come here if we have an opening......don't get your comment about the light bulb. It's not about coaches not being bright.....they definitely are bright. It's about other places paying the same coin in better recruiting areas and not coming to the only school who fires a successful coach.....more than once. As far as you not wanting to see Pelini fired. Ok.
  6. Nebraska and Alabama have the most wins in the past 5 years of all programs. Now, tell me again how much 9 and 10 win seasons suck. Ridiculous point. And how many NC's, CC's, and BCS bowls has that led to for us? How many times have lesser opponents beat us? How many times have we been embarrassingly blown out? Where are the hallmark wins? Where's the game(s) we look to and hang our hat on the excellent victory? This is why wins alone are not a good gauge. 9 and 10 win seasons against the teams we play, in the conference(s) we've played in? You bet I expect that as a minimum. How about we just drop out of the B1G, go independent, and schedule nothing but low level FCs opponents? We maybe could pick up 1 or 2 more wins per year and still have the same thing to show for it. It's about more than the win/loss record. I don't think it will be a ridiculous point in inner coaching circles if we end up doing a candidate search.
  7. Christiansen has Missouri on his resume. Though I agree if we keep throwing darts at the head coaching dartboard, one has to work out sometime....right?
  8. Another media attempt to stir up the masses and create controversy. Shocking.
  9. Yes, the DTs are very important and Suh (and Dorsey) would show that to be true. It's why there was such an emphasis on the DL position the past couple of recruiting classes. We severely lacked depth on the DL last season, resulting in having to move an undersized Meredith to the interior DL......where we were already undersized to begin with. Pelini's LBs are typically tackling machines and certainly our issues on DL last season didn't help Compton's cause. This is where the emphasis on recruiting has become so important. This current group of young DL shows some reasons for optimism. I'd have to look it up, but I think Compton was not far over 100 tackles. Ruud and David were more in the 130+ range. That's the range we need to get a LB in tackles. Pelini is not a one hit wonder in this area. He's produced results at each level of the defense over the years.
  10. I agree. He basically says their decision to run or pass depends on how many are in the box. Yep.
  11. Ain't it the truth. It is ridiculous for the coaching staff to blame the players, when they can't devise a scheme to stop basic plays. This years issues are not the same as last years issues. Please elaborate. According to Pelini's post game pressers, the issues seem to be substantially identical. - We just didn't execute. - The players didn't execute. - Guys were in position but failed to make the play. - The scheme works. These are all recurring offerings of excuses by Bo. How exactly are the issues this year enough different from last year that you felt the need to point it out? The one major difference I will concede is youth and inexperience. But we've seen the same crap regardless of the experience level. I've got a list as long as your arm of what isn't different. Yes, we have been gashed in the running game again, but the reasons are different just as the players are different than last year. At the LB level last season we had Compton at MLB. Knew the scheme well, but struggled to get off blocks and didn't have the speed we have now as options at the LB spot....or spots depending on what defense we're running. Inexperience is our nemesis at LB this year. That's why Minny did so much shifting. Everyone knows we are inexperienced. I linked two articles, one from Jay Foreman and one from Barrett Ruud on another thread. They both give some good insight specific to the linebackers. And as I've written in a couple of threads, we had a LB in the backfield that had more than one opportunity for a TFL and wasn't able to make the play. You might see several plays where you think.....gosh, we should have made that play. We were very close to doing so.....but it didn't happen. Last season was personnel that lacked the athleticism. This season, we have the athleticism, but lack experience.....which is a good teacher.
  12. Just giving you some info on what we're doing......but if your interest is just to rip Pelini the info doesn't matter anyway.
  13. There are a couple of specific things with positions (LB & safety) that are being specifically addressed right now.
  14. Santos going back to the will. Rose/Banderas should see the time at MLB. It will be interesting to see who starts at safety opposite Coop.
  15. Appearance. Oregon has done well this past decade with conference wins and BCS bowl games.

  17. ....right, because the callahan era is the guage. then you tell me, what is the gauge?? I don't have answers but I will say that once an argument for keeping a coach is based on "It's not as bad as the callahan era" then we have a problems. That wouldn't be my point for keeping Pelini. In order for any possible next coach to better Pelini, he'd have to win the B10 title in his first season. Pelini has already won 9 games plus the division.
  18. Jay Foreman's link is above. Here's a link to what Barrett Ruud wrote, focusing primarily on the LB play. http://www.huddlepass.com/huddle/huskers-football/feature/70512
  19. There is another thread started a bit ago about assigning blame. Pelini is completely responsible for the program, the players and our performance. My interest is having Pelini find the right pieces to get us on track. I have opened my eyes and watched film. I've listened to different breakdowns of it online. You have every right to know it's a coaching problem. I'm more interested in seeing if we can find our answer at LB and at safety opposite Coop.......and I'm more interested to see if Armstrong can provide that intangible spark to help our offense move the chains. Armstrong will make Becks offense look better. I don't doubt that at all. The defense is clearly the main issue, sure, but how many more guys can we move around? It didn't work last year with a completely different set of guys. An experienced set of guys for that matter. Now we think Bo can plug in more youngsters to find an answer? I don't know. He refuses to play CJax so I'm not sure who is left at safety. He won't bring the safeties up closer to the LOS to blow up the run so at this point it doesn't matter anyway. I also think Armstrong will make the offense look better. Beck seems to be more cautious with Armstrong's youth and play to his strengths with the option and use of our other backs. While I agree, what's gonna happen next year then when Armstrong has the experience? Does Beck begin Watsoning again? Or is it just possible that Armstrong is just the better qb. I would like to see a film breakdown in detail that shows Beck "pared" it down for Armstrong them three games, cuz from general point of view I didnt see it. And until I see this team completely sh#t their pants like they did Saturday, and against UCLA, and against Wyoming too, I will not concede that there is not a serious, team-wide division centering around the qb position. I've since heard that it's been there since the beginning of fall camp. That maybe qb battle was actually closer than we all wanted to admit from day one. I'm talking a possible full-blown Ganz/Keller type deal here folks. Of course, just heresay I've heard, but we have a lot of in-game evidence that's hard to argue with. Valid questions. I don't know if the offense was pared down for Armstrong, but we seem to run it differently......especially in how we try to get to the edge. It got frustrating seeing the continued attempt with the WR/bubble screens against Minny when Abdullah had been effective. You may be very correct about the qb battle in fall camp. We've seen a few of those happen over the years......Crouch/Newcombe being one of the more public ones.

On defense it's not just plugging a different set of guys didn't work. It's more specific than that. Compton and Fish knew the defense well and how to make reads, but neither were among the faster players on the field. We have better speed at LB now, but are struggling with their reads in live action. I believe Pelini is diligently working to get our LBs figured out. I don't have the answer for CJax or what is happening at that safety spot. Someone else might have insight there. I do know there are a couple of LBs that a lot of people wondered why they weren't playing more, but Minny helped answer that. Several TFLs were missed. Very makeable tackles. LBs have the opportunity to rack up a lot of tackles in Pelini's defense. We've seen it with several Pelini coached LBs.....Ruud, D Williams, L David.
  21. I agree. I'm disappointed that our upperclassmen aren't better on the DL, but I'm pleased generally speaking with our young talent on the DL. We've got to find the answer at LB. We missed several TFL against Minny.

  23. Yes, I am a troll defending Nebraska's head coach for winning.
  24. Even completely ignoring that, it's obvious you only care about the record, which is pretty laughable. At this point, I'm a bit unsure if you're a troll or not. Help me decide? Let me repeat. I do not know what our record will be for THIS season, which is specifically what you asked. Based on Pelini's performance from day one here, the only way to better him is winning 10 plus the conference title.
  25. I don't know how we improve over this season yet. It's still being played. But if you want to fire Pelini specifically for losing to Minnesota, then just say so.
