  1. The difference in talent really only exists at the 2nd and 3rd string. BYU's starters are about as talented as Nebraska, probably more so on offense (with the exception at running back and tight end) I'd argue. But we lack depth without question. And that overall talent is why BYU lost 5 games last year? Must've been a killer schedule you guys played.
  2. Haha. Arrested? LOL. You all are a soft bunch.Soft? How about an ear hole sucker punch to a guy facing the other way...that's what I consider soft, or cowardly, or being a pu$$. But hey maybe I'm just old fashion...or an actual man.I don't disagree which is why I'm fine with the suspension. The expulsion talk is just dumb though. And in Nacua's defense I'm not sure he has all of his faculties after getting rocked. He got dropped! Are they just talking one game for him? Not enough if so.I have been mostly just a lurker on this board. I am pretty excited about the game this weekend. I think it will be a hard fought game where both teams have some serious questions in different areas. To me this game is a complete toss up. We could easily get run out of cornfields or squeak out a winner. I know there have been some major egos that have posted as BYU fans. We get real defensive quick. The only thing I want to clear up is the suspensions. Kai Nacua should be suspended for the game. He deserves it and I don't think we will see him Saturday. For those claiming it should be more and are upset about it? Really? Every team has had unfortunate incidents like this. Remember Kellen Huston? He got a 1 game suspension as well and he dropped a poor little fat Mizzou boy who was not involved in any fight. 1 game. So stop complaining about a suspension of a kid you will never even recall who he is after Saturday What I am trying to say is for the most part you guys have been legitimately classy. We haven't represented all that well and for that I appologize. I think the trash talk started innocent on both sides and turned sour as gameday approaches. Best of luck to the huskers after Sat. I hope you go 11-1. Just in case you guys forgot who Kellen Huston was Was waiting for this, and I'm glad it was finally posted. It's really been tough lately figuring out if you're an actual Husker fan or not. The Oregon part has been easy.....Nebraska not so much. Why? Because I try to take the clear bias out of things? Why would I donate to the board if I wasn't a Husker fan? I said what I said because there have been comments leading our BYU fans to believe that this sort of thing has never happened at Nebraska. Which is wrong, that's all I was getting across. It's becoming more and more clear on this board that if we don't spell things out so 100 percent, they get taken completely wrong. Leading to rear end injury. No worries. Any college football fan worth his salt would remember that incident. I could have brought it up but it's entertaining watching dudes like knapp strain over beam in their own eye. Remember the Kellen Huston incident? I had forgotten all about it. Why? Because it wasn't a bench clearing brawl.
  3. I chose the championship because my wife would have that money spent before I could even think about what to do with it.
  4. Must have been that un-holy buttstuff. "We struggled (getting penetration) last year," Rowley said. "We have to be more physical and then we can open holes." Sorry, couldn't help it. Seriously though: He said that after months of not being able to really hit the QB, he's anxious to get to the Nebraska game and go all out. "That's the best feeling in the first game when you get to hit the quarterback," Kaufusi said. "You're sick and tired of patting them on the back and running by." Daily Herald Looks like they plan on putting a lot of pressure of TA. Beware of the zone read though, or they will get burned. BYU was dinged up quite a bit last year. Plus they moved Bronson Kaufusi to OLB last year. It was a disastrous move. Combined with the injuries to the defense, young guys forced into playing time, and a first time DC the defense really suffered. Bronco took back the defense and the DC was demoted to DB coach. Bronson has been moved back to DE. He's a talent but he's best suited to play DE in 4-3 IMO. So he's still a bit of a square being forced into round hole. The secondary was pretty bad last year, but they get too much of the blame for the defense. The real issue was a lack of pass rush and the secondary paid the price. BYU's front 7 is legit. Bronco has always had a stop the run first mentality. That hasn't changed, but there has been an emphasis of getting to the QB especially with those guys whose whose hands are in the dirt. I think the secondary will be a bit better than last year. There were a few guys who didn't buy in and it exposed the team and scheme which is dependent on assignments. Still, the defense is relatively young. I'm anxious to see if the secondary is improved and if we can dominate an inexperienced line up front. As for the zone read, I don't think BYU is too concerned about it. Bronco defends it and the triple option as well as anyone in the country. Besides they see a better read option QB than Tommy Armstrong everyday. BYU shouldn't be concerned about the zone read, It's probably no big deal anyway. Not saying Taysom Hill is a bad QB, but I would rather have a QB who spent more time on the field than riding the pine with injuries. Maybe this will be the year he makes it through a whole season. He played every game the season before last. I'll take a Heisman hopeful with two freak injuries over Tommy all day. I'm really curious what Riley does with him against BYU. In the past, he's gone max protect vs BYU to beat BYU through the air. It worked the last time they played, though a quick score followed by an interception returned for a TD made it look more lopsided. But Tommy Armstrong is no Cody Vaz or Sean Mannion. I suspect he'll call plays to his strength, get him out of the pocket perhaps on some designed rollouts with a run/pass option. I wonder if we'll see Riley's beloved jet sweep. Not sure who will run that though with DPE out. I'm also wondering how an inexperienced line will protect TA. Moving the pocket will help as I'm sure Bronco will be bringing pressure from all over. I'm looking forward to seeing if TA can pass on BYU because I think BYU will sellout to stop the run first. Good point here. I didn't realize it but now I do. If Riley can beat BYU with Oregon St. players, imagine what he can do now. As this game draws closer, I like our chances of winning more and more.
  5. Emphasis mine. Nebraska got beaten solidly last year by the Spartans, despite what the final score indicated. We were never in that game except for a couple of fluke plays that made it close at the very end after Michigan St had "checked out" from the game. Conversely, McNeese St nearly beat us. We came out sloppy, and McNeese controlled the tempo of a good portion of the game. Ultimately, we needed a miraculous finish to avoid going to OT or getting beat outright. The general wisdom states that schematic changes take a season or two to implement, meaning more Ls during those rebuilding years. Thus, 9-4 last season = 8-5 or 7-6 this season. You start from that point and then you evaluate game-by-game. I agree that getting Michigan St and Wisconsin at home will help, but we also travel to Miami and Minnesota. So I think schedule-wise, it's more or less a wash between last year and this year. I'll go with 8-5 for the season as a whole. I don't know, usually when we are getting beat solidly I turn off the TV. I actually finished watching that game, whereas I tuned out the Wisconsin debacle.
  6. I think every good football team needs a maniac like Gangwish. I did not know he was the type. GBR!
  7. OWH Nebraska 24, BYU 21 - I think we beat BYU by 2 touchdowns. Miami 23, Nebraska 20 - I think we win this one. Minnesota 28, Nebraska 23 - No way we lose to Minnesota 3 years in a row. Not gonna happen. At least I hope not. Michigan State 35, Nebraska 21 - We might lose to MSU, but not by 2 touchdowns at home. We almost beat them on their own turf last year, and that was with Bo as a head coach.
  8. Good luck to Adrienne in the future. Too bad things didn't work out.

  11. Ameer also was at the top or near the top in the country in yards before contact. I did not know that. Very interesting. Kind of blows that argument away.
  12. He is really down on the B1G West for some reason. It's not a terrible division, but it's not the greatest either. At least it's not the Big 12 North.
  13. BYU Center Tejan Koroma threw the first punch in that fight. It was a head-butt, on a helmetless player, after the game was over. That Memphis player retaliated by punching Koroma, and the fight ensued. Kai Nacau threw an elbow to the back of a Memphis' player's head, and should have been kicked off the team. If they only suspend him for a game, that's amazing. Here's the fight: The 2006 Miami/FIU game featured a similar brawl. The teams suspended a combined 31 players for the next game - 18 from FIU and 13 from Miami. Months ago, Memphis announced they will suspend 12 players as a result of this fight: If BYU only suspends four players from that fracas, three for one game and one for half a game, that's going to look pretty shady. That wasn't a headbutt. Immediately following the end of the game that Memphis player got into the face of Christian Stewart, BYU's QB. Tejan is shoving him away from his QB. Headbutt on a helmetless player. LOL. That player responded in kind with a punch. Several other players jumped Tejan immediately afterward. One Memphis player even took his helmet and started hitting Tejan with it from behind. Tejan fell to the ground with about 5 Memphis players on top of him. While on the ground another Memphis player started stomping on him like your guy Suh. But the one image replayed over and over was Nacua and his sucker punch with little mention of the punch that dropped him and split his cheek before he started swinging on anyone wearing blue. Mind you, this wasn't the first time Memphis cleared the benches last season. They were looking for a fight afterward and got one. I'll say this, from what I know, Nebraska will have more players suspended than BYU on Saturday. And of those BYU will suspend only Nacua will be suspended as a result of the fight. Haha. Arrested? LOL. You all are a soft bunch. Usually if you assault someone, you get arrested. LOL.
  14. Let the good times roll! It's Runza eating time!
  15. Just a quick question, why only 56?
  16. So, in your 33 years of football writing experience, if a team loses to FIVE mid-majors in a season, does that qualify them to be "Big Time?"
  17. Probably the most truthful point here. Look out if he doesn't win 9. Why? What are the doom-and-gloomers who keep saying this expecting if we don't win nine games? There are a lot of things rolling against Nebraska this year. We could easily win less than nine games. What's supposed to happen if we win 8? Dogs and cats living together or something? Some people are operating under the impression that you don't fire a #9win coach unless the new guy is capable of doing similar or better in year one. Seems logical, unless the coach pulls a Tim Beckman.
  18. I don't know that I would be too disappointed if he didn't win 9. Depends on how the season went. However, I do know a lot of other people will be extremely ticked that we fired a coach who consistently achieved that mark only to hire one who failed to attain at least 9 wins. I also think, that it would be easier to win at least 9 than it would to win less than 9. Let's face it, we have the talent, we have the schedule, and now we have the coach. It's time to move forward, not backwards.
  19. Riley speaks of the BYU Defense: “Brigham Young is a diverse defense. I think they blitz from the bleachers, so you’ve got to be sound in how you look at them … and how you develop your running game and how you’re going to block it. You have to not be overburdened with too much stuff, but you have to have enough that challenges the defense. " Deseret News Hope our Frankenoffense is up to the task.
  20. Probably the most truthful point here. Look out if he doesn't win 9.
  21. The mentality began to shift the year Solich and company busted it and went 7-7. I remember thinking during that season, they better not lose again or this will be total disaster. And they kept on losing. And then BC came along and the mentality totally shifted to utterly wishing and hoping the team would win at least 9.
  22. When they're done cougar hunting, they won't have to worry about whether they've caught some horrible disease. I got a disease from your mom last night. Oh snap!
  23. I like the 9 win thing. There is obviously something to it, if only NU, Bama and Oregon have done it. I think the big difference between the three is that the 9 win bar was a maximum for Nebraska the last seven years, whereas it was more of a minimum for Bama and Oregon. I also think that we might be fooling ourselves a little bit about what 9 wins means today vs. 9 wins 20 years ago.
  24. "Nebraska won three top-15 games over that span during Pelini’s tenure, which just happens to coincide with the seven-year streak." "While Oregon and Alabama have their streaks and something to show for them, the Big Red can claim two Big 12 North Division championships and a Big Ten Legends Division championship for its trouble." "Nine wins may be a nice metric for some teams, but as Alabama and Oregon have shown us, it’s not for the elite and that, ladies and gentlemen, should include Nebraska." The Fallacy of Nebraska’s Nine-Win Season Streak I think a lot of Husker fans have hung on to the 9 win notion as a bar for decades. However with more games being played now, I think you have to hit that 10+ wins mark every season to get us back to where we all think we should be.
