.... they don't want to negotiate. It was Senate Republicans idea to negotiate a stand alone immigration bill tying aid to Ukraine with immigration compromise. I'm not an expert on Senate rule making, but I don't think they can add things like military aid to Ukraine to an Immigration bill like HR2 that already went through the house. But - THROUGH ADMISSION - large numbers of Republicans don't want to fix the border because it's anger fodder for the Republican base that will never punish themwith their voting choices. I don't know what to tell you on this one Archy. The evidence on the Republican stance on this is laid bare for you to see. It's up to you to open your eyes.

H.R.2, as far as I can tell, does not expand legal immigration. It mandates E-Verify, potentially gutting industries that rely on illegal immigration - but does not increase legal visas for agricultural workers, construction workers, or any form. So what's the plan after entire sectors of the economy are gutted?

This may surprise you, but huge swaths of the economy - agriculture construction, house building, roofing, etc. - rely on illegal immigrant labor. There isn't exactly a army of legal white people clamoring to work in Californias farms picking strawberries or to roof your house in Kansas. Any immigration bill that doesn't simultaneously deal with illegal border crossings while simultaneously expanding legal immigration to sectors of the economy that need it is unserious. Pointing out the Republican Party's love affair with authoritarian, anti-democratic leaders is sort of fun, and should be pointed out whenever possible. It's not really political rhetoric to point out the toxic cancer embedded within the Republican Party; it's a warning.

The unserious attempt that does not deal with expanded legal immigration to actually comprehensively address immigration? I'm sorry that the Republican Party would rather anger-farm voters than put forth real attempts to address problems, but I guess caving to Vladimir Putin and praising Viktor Orban is showing us the true colors of the party.

Guess which party will vote in favor of both. Guess which party is in favor of neither.

You gotta admit, the party installing razor wire and a buoy system on rivers literally drowning immigrants because the DEMONcrats arent tough on the border only to have that same party continually reject any effort to actually deal with the border because drowning said immigrant kids is better politics... If it helps, I know we don't agree on much, but I do agree with you on student loan forgiveness. Blanket forgiveness is bad policy and stupid policy. Democrats aren't seriously interested in dealing with the rising cost of college because addressing would require extreme changes to who and how the government gives out loans.

This is true, it's why Democrats moved South Carolina up their calendar. I do wonder if Republicans can do the same. This year, however, it's likely that Trump was going to win regardless. His weakest states are Iowa, NH, etc. If different Republican candidates are unable to beat him there, it's unlikely they will beat him in any other meaningful primary.

Maybe the crowd is cheering for his well detailed, thoughtful and viable policy proposals that will work to solve everyday problems facing America's most vulnerable. As a noted and well informed policy wonk, Trump and his rallies are known for his inspiring speeches where he describes the proposals that are going to lift up the lives of his supporters and they cheer his descriptions on how those proposals will become law.

I do think DeSantis should've been patient and waited until 2028 to run. He was a little over eager. He wouldn't have to run to the Right of Trump on issues, would've been free to carve and policy stances of his choice, he's easily the best choice to inherit Trumps populist base, and he would win while simultaneously not having to criticize Trump himself.

If I were to guess, Haley will drop out shortly after she loses her home state of South Carolina on February 24th. However, the latest her campaign will last is March 5th, after the Super Tuesday primaries are dominated by Trump leaving her no path to victory. The soonest she drops out is eary next week after she loses in New Hampshire. She may realize that the sooner she embarrasses herself by endorsing Trump, the better the chances that he helps her salvage the rest of her pathetic political career. Make no mistake, the race for the Republican nomination is over and has been for months.

Nikki Haley is going to be endorsing Trump by March 5th at the latest. She's going to spend her pathetic time attacking Bidens age and mental acuity all while Donald Trump routinely confuses her for Nancy Pelosi.

Going out making up a quote is very on brand for a Republican. He's leaving the race the same way he came in, on a mountain of bulls#!t.

RIP President DeSantis. Spent 90 days subjecting himself to the voters of Iowa only to lose to a guy who's an embarrassment to American politics. He's now going to debase himself - just like all Republicans will - by endorsing Trump. It's a pathetic as it is predictable.

My God, this is hilarious. Look, the greatest threat to America comes from within itself. If the American people, particularly those on the right easily enamored with grifters and morons, elect this guy then America deserves its downfall. The Republican Party decided to weaponize a legion of voters that are disconnected from reality, and now it's a terrifying monster that cannot be reasoned with. It threatens the Democratic norms of the words greatest Democracy. But hey, you did pass Tax Cuts for super wealthy people and banned abortion so I hope it was all worth it.

Between rapid wage growth, rapid GDP growth, the stock market reaching all time highs, lowest inflation in the G7, near record low unemployment rates, and the above tweet... You have to wonder just how much the DEMONcrats and Joe Biden are ruining this once great country.

Trump already won the state and we're not even an hour into it. Look for the other candidates, who subjected themselves to pointless debates to the MAGA horde, to drop out of the race and to beg at Trump's feet to salvage their pathetic political careers.

Republican voters are a lost cause. This is why this election will be close. These people simply do not care that they're voting for a treasonous criminal.

As a Democrat voting in a time period where Republicans have massive institutional advantages in elections, Trump is the gift that keeps on giving. Since 2016, the electoral environment is so stacked against Democrats that we're deeply fortunate that they won a Trifecta in 2020 and still held onto the Senate in 2022. Republicans are squandering a decade in which they should easily be winning elections based on the fundamentals of the Senate, Electoral College, and gerrymandered house districts. Now, I do deeply wish that the threat that MAGA Republicans was not the other option. I like winning elections and passing good bills, but I don't want the risk of losing an election to be a danger to America. I hope they go back to nominating Mitt Romney types. But we'll see. Republicans might be to far gone to be saved.
