  1. McNeese actually has had fewer practices than NU. This is true. I asked about this when we started preseason practices As you know (some of you anyway), you are limited to a certain number of practices before your first game. I was hoping that it would be until the first playing weekend of college football and that this week would be like a normal game week of practice between games. But I was told, we were still limited to the preseason number of practices until the Nebraska game. What we did was spread out the practices and not having any two a days (except for one, I believe because of a rained out practice). So we have only had the ncaa limit of practices before a first game. Nebraska had that before the FAU game and then has had the normal between game practices this week. Doc
  2. Best FBS/BCS team McNeese ever played was the first one we played when we played the U. of Miami back in 2000 with all of those studs that ended up being NFL first rounders. Santana Moss killed us that day. They drubbed us pretty good but we got our licks in and banged them up pretty well. LB Dan Morgan had to sit out the next game because of a concussion. They ended up going to the U. of Wash. the next week and lost there and that loss probably cost them a National Championship shot that year. Since then we have been drubbed by FBS teams, scared the crap out of a few FBS teams, and beat a few, but we haven't been scared of any of them. We may get drubbed Saturday but I know the McNeese players aren't coming into the game scared. Doc
  3. New photo from today's practice. Our kicker and the holders get the last few practice kicks in before flying up tomorrow. Doc
  4. You forgot my photo of the autograph football signing after Tuesday's practice. We are just trying to be helpful here. Doc
  5. Okay, here is one. Wr Wes Briscoe didn't practice today. Doc
  6. Okay, Cbuck said for some reason all of the validation emails started going to his spam folder. He found them there and validated all of them. Doc
  7. Who? K-State fan, Bookie_Pimp. He is going to be hurt that you guys don't remember him. Oh, well. Doc Never heard of this guy, and I've been a mod here for years and years. He's probably thinking of a different forum. Yeah, he thinks it might have been the old Huskerpedia board. Doc
  8. Hmmm, as of about 30 minutes ago, Cbuck said he hasn't gotten any emails from the board about validations????? Doc This was the email I got (minus log-in info) Your account is currently inactive and will need to be approved by an administrator before you can log in. 11. I will let Cbuck know that there are some people to validate. i'm just a peon moderator and can't access that part. Note that a new poster's first 3 posts go into a moderation filter to be approved. That is because we had trouble with spammers posting early on in the board's life. When you are validated, I'll try to keep on top of any moderated posts that need approval. Doc
  12. cool. i did know he was an educator, but did not know he also drove cattle. just struck me as odd that such a culturally and geographically rich state as LA would have a cowboy as a mascot, especially since that is not an apparent identifier. but now i know. Lake Charles is about 30 miles east of the Texas line and about 45 miles north of the Gulf. Culturally, SW La. is like a suburb of Texas. Of course, there are some Cajuns here as they are a few in SE Texas. Doc
  13. You would have to know the history of John McNeese, who the univeristy is named after, to understand where the mascot name came from. Doc I guess you'd have to care enough to look it up on Wikipedia. But absent that, could you give us the executive summary? John McNeese was a pioneer educator in Southwest La. He was also a cattle rancher who led the first cattle drive across the Sabine River (that river between Texas and La.). That is the very short version. Oh, and I almost forgot. Bookie_Pimp says to tell you guys hello. He told me you guys would love me if I told you that. He wouldn't lie now would he? Doc

  15. Matt Viator is not the type of coach that is just going to turn over the keys to a transfer and put him in front of the guys who have been here and have worked hard just because he is supposed to be good. He is going to make him prove it on the field. I remember when Tryann "The Honey Badger" Mathieu came running over here when LSU finally canned him. He thought he'd be welcomed here with open arms and be suiting up for McNeese the next day. From what I heard, Matt sat him down and told him "how" it would have be if Matt let him on the team and to go home and think about it over the weekend. He decided not to come to McNeese. Doc Doesn't McNeese state run more of a traditional O? If yes, I am sure that is a factor as well since Sam's skills don't translate to that type of O well. I liked a bit of what I saw out of Sam when he was at KSU, erratic as a passer. We run multiple offenses depending on the situation. I seen us all the way from 5 wideouts no back formation all the way to a power I with three TE's in the game. We even have run some spread option plays. But last year with Cody Stroud at QB, a drop back type passer who was slow as hell running, our spread option plays didn't evolve much option. The defense knew that the RB was getting the ball and could completely ignore Cody.. I think Tyler Bolfing and Daniel Sams will both play Saturday but don't ask me what we will run because I haven't been at practice last week and this week and don't know. Doc
  16. I don't want to clutter up the lookalike message string so I'm posting these photos here. Two shots of Cowboy Stadium nicknamed "The Hole". cowboystadiumpanorama by mcneese72, on Flickr Cowboy_Stadium_July_2014-31 by mcneese72, on Flickr Doc http://www.docsshots.com/
  17. Offense used to be labeled multiple/pro set I. Now you just say multiple. Who to watch? I don't know, I watch them all. Matt Viator took over in the middle of the season in 2006. We went to the N.C. game the last time we played you guys in 2002. Now, we can't win an opening round game to save our lives. Hopefully, playing you guys again is a good omen for this season. I watched the first half of the FAU game. You guys don't need "no" help. Doc http://www.docsshots.com/
  18. Sore point there. We already dealt with those a..holes about helmets back in the late 90's. Helmets used to look like this: Doc
  19. You are treading on a sore subject here for McNeese fans. Our helmets looked like the photo below before the state of Wyoming jumped on us. Needless to say that Wyoming is not our favorite state. Doc
  20. Hey, there is a reason why our stadium is nicknamed "The Hole". Doc I have actually been past "The Hole." It seemed like a nice place. I have a good panoramic photo I took last month of "The Hole" but I'm not going to post it and clutter up this look alike message string any more than I already have.. Doc http://www.docsshots.com/
