  1. Very good points. I had forgotten my attitude during the Solich mini-era .... it really felt like we could, and likely would, LOSE any game. Obviously you can win or lose just about any game in college football, but you're right, it's really nice to actually be optimistic about our Huskers again. Thanks for changing the perspective a bit, great post!
  2. DaveH, I guess my point is that winning the Big 12 North, while certainly should be A GOAL, it shouldn't be THE GOAL. We didn't have a sign in the locker room that said BEAT SOUTHEAST NORTH DAKOTA COMMUNITY COLLEGE, or whatever lame teams we play for our season openers. Sure, those are short-term goals required to have a good season, but it just seems to me like way too much was made of winning the north, and not nearly enough effort was made to establish a good goal after we made the Big 12 title game. Like I said, seems like the coaches just relaxed after the big goal of winning the north was achieved.
  3. Yup, caught the sacrasm, and was agreeing. Sorry, didn't mean to upset you.
  4. You know, I thought that was a really LAME goal all year. Seems like our team was ready to go beyond that goal, but the coaches just relaxed. Perhaps I'm just naive and used to the power football teams of the past, but the big 12 north should be a gimme. Next year let's get a better goal, like have less than 3 losses.
  5. I don't agree that he should be fired, but I do agree that it was TERRIBLE play calling. I really feel badly for our players who worked their butts off all year, making their goal of winning the Big 12 North, only to be rewarded by HORRIFIC coaching. Callie was bold at the wrong times, and conservative at the wrong times -- 1st and 10 from the 30 or 35 on that last possession, let's see some play action or go for the endzone. We don't want a field goal tie, we want to WIN -- where's the aggressive play calling there? Two runs to the short side of the field on 1st and 2nd downs? Almost looked like T.O. was back. Can't blame everything on him, though -- not sure what that 4th down play was supposed to be, but you can't fault the coach for a pass thrown 10 yards out of bounds. The point I guess is that we NEVER should have been in a 4th and 12 situation at that point. Oh, well. Good start, we just fell apart offensively in the 2nd half. Better luck in 2007!
  6. I live about 50 miles west of Lincoln, and my Dish Network has standard FOX KTVG out of Lincoln, but they're showing Judge Alex and Judge Judy during the entire game. What morons. :asshat Guess it's time to drive to an Omaha sports bar or something to watch the game. Oh, well. GO BIG RED!
  7. I have Dish Network with all the sports options you can get, and can't find the game listed ANYWHERE. No Cotton Bowl, no nothing. Anyone know who is carrying this???
  8. Hopefully we win, but I'll be interested to see if they drop us out of the top 25 if we don't see the upset. Planning on some for sure this weekend. And IF we pull the upset, I'll join y'all for some more until we're and when we wake up we'll be able to say !!!
  9. Looked like he took a helmet to the back of his neck ..... hopefully caught his helmet instead and just rung his bell a little. Far as I know, Congdon is fine.
  10. Out of all openers in recent years, especially under Cally, I thought this game was GREAT. Yeah, there were some sloppy plays and costly penalties, but that means we have things to fix, which will make us even better. LA Tech isn't a powerhouse, but I feel they're a much better team than some of our other recent openers have been (cough...Maine...cough), and at least we handled this game from a scoring perspective. There's nothing worse in my opinion than barely beating a bad team....blech. That being said, I think next week will be less of a powerhouse performance....we need to get healed up. Hopefully most of those guys, especially in the secondary, will end up being OK. Hey, and let's hear it for Ganz! Looks like we have someone who has the ability to step up in case we need him. I thought he looked very sharp. As always, Go Huskers! (Oh, and don't forget about those volleyballers -- they're opening the season strong! GO GO GO!)
  11. Assuming you were "smart enough" to move, I just wanted to let you know, from all of us Husker fans, how deeply we all miss you. Perhaps someday you'll understand that all the things you point out that YOU THINK make us weak, are exactly what make us strong. You're right, there's not much around here to do. You're right, this isn't a vacation hotspot. YET WE ARE ALL STILL PROUD TO LIVE HERE AND PROUD TO CALL OURSELVES NEBRASKANS. That's what makes us such great fans, great people, and more "real" than most people ever dream of being. We're in touch with our culture, our families, our friends, and heck, even complete strangers that sit next to us at the game, at a restaurant, or anywhere. We all have respect for one another....and even for people who hate us, believe it or not. GO BIG RED. Looked great this afternoon! I can't wait to see how the USC game goes!
  12. What's you guys' deal? This is HUMOR. Laugh a little. It won't hurt. I promise.
  13. This was posted on http://www.michiganzone.blogspot.com/ - I take no credit for this post at all - but I thought I just had to share it with you guys. posted by Yost @ 1/09/2006 10:16:00 PM Michigan's Bowl Opponent After the 2003 Season: Southern Cal Results the Following Year: * Team goes undefeated * Crushes overrated Oklahoma in Orange Bowl * National Champions * QB wins the Heisman Trophy, parties at Playboy Mansion and nails more beautiful women than all other football players combined * Head coach declared greatest coach in college football history and son of God Michigan's Bowl Opponent After the 2004 Season: Texas Results the Following Year: * Team goes undefeated * Defeats USC in Rose Bowl in spite of - or perhaps becasue of - slavish Trojan-worship from sports media * National Champions * QB is Heisman Trophy runner-up. 14. Huskers 13 Buffalos 32 Passing 120 Rushing 65 We always suck after Thanksgiving. Too much turkey and L-Tryptophan. Hopefully I'm wrong. God knows it's time for the Huskers to win one when WE are the underdog, after so many years of CU beating us in that last game of the season. GO BIG RED!
  15. The reason the team has slipped to this level isn't because of our new head coach. Our team is like swiss cheese...some areas are solid and others leave gaping holes. I agree with the guy who started this post. WHO CARES how good we are? If you're a fan, a TRUE fan, you support your team, NO MATTER WHAT. This world has become such an easy place to be instantly satisfied. If you don't like your team, jump on another one's wagon. If you're horny, get online and look at nudie pics. If you're hungry, drive down the block and pick up a burger for a buck, or throw a pizza in the oven. Now, those of you who can't stand how the Huskers are doing, I can relate. I'm a HUGE Husker fan, always have been, and always will be. If we go 0-12 ten years in a row I'll still be there watching each and every game. I'll still be PISSED when we lose, but that's how I am. I like to win. I like my team to win. BUT I WILL STILL BE A FAN even if we don't. That's what it's all about. Regardless of the score, the coach, the players, or the bluehairs on some message board, forever, GO BIG RED! (BTW ... for those of you who simply can't handle the football team, start following volleyball -- they're doing awesome. For those of you who are saying "yeah right" as you read this, please position yourself on the other side of the net from our LADY Huskers and tell me your opinion!)
