  1. This is an amazing feeling. The first game, a new season, a promising outlook. Last season is behind us and hopefully the Huskers will build upon the foundation which has been laid. It's a new day, a bright day, a day of Red. Go Big Red.
  2. A chance to equal our stride
  3. I'm going to watch it by myself, no plans, no people, no food. Last year was the first college football season without my dad as he passed away on July 16. Even though he wasn't a Nebraska fan, he watch the game with me. During the season opener last year, Mom was in the hospital after having her second of four surgeries she had during the fall. I'm ready just to watch a game without things hanging over me for once. GBR!
  4. Back in the early 90s Nebraska's basketball team wore black unis with red numbers outlined in white (or vice versa) for a season or two. I just remember seeing Rich King wearing that during games on TV. The black is really done well and I think a third option based in the secondary pallet of colors gives the kids a little more incentive. And I'm also a big fan of the all whites and how crisp those look for certain games. They don't have to wear them all the time, but trotting the black ones out or the white ones out once in a while gives a little bit of variety and kids love it even if the fans don't.
  5. I mean, we all want the Huskers to win the national championship. But let's be realistic here as there are still some holes to fill and unanswered questions. So what would a successful season look like in terms of attainable expectations to you? I think 9-3 or 8-4 with no blowout losses in the regular season would set up Year 3 quite nicely. Oh, and a thorough mudstomping of Iowa, just to shut up all of my friends from Iowa.
  6. Frost's offense is attacking with what the defense gives them. There was a great article before the season started about how his offense works with what they see in the box. Under Langsdork's offense was a constant eye roll. Watch some Pac-12 games with Cal, Arizona, Arizona State and you see the motions, jet sweeps, and the things Langsdork ran constantly and it's almost as if they are all running the same playbook. Remember, Langsdork was the one who didn't even know it was 3rd and 2, he thought it was 3rd and 4. And being down, Langs would run play action in 3rd and long situations which no defender even gave a second glance. Beck would just try to get cute during inopportune times. Watson kept changing the scheme year to year. Balance is a good, but versatile is even better. Sure Wisconsin lines up and punches you in the mouth, but can you really see Wisconsin rallying from 21 down in a half because they are forced to throw on every other down as a 7-minute grind-out-clock drive puts them down only two scores with half of the quarter gone? What really cracks me up are the people who continue to say "you can't throw in the cold and the snow of the B1G, you have to line up and smash into each other, blah, blah, blah. Get off my yard."
  7. WHAT WAS THAT? A special teams touchdown FOR us?? What is this black magic?
  8. What is this black magic we are using to get a TO in a big spot?
  9. That was head's up by Speilman. Stayed inbounds and kept the clock moving when he could have stepped out.
  10. An offensive holding call with our D on the field and a favorable spot in the same game? Ye Gods!
  11. Operative word, yet. This is still an O-line which didn't do any work last season during practice, they just ran plays. This is also the same O-line which the previous moronic coach only readied five linemen a week. They might not be able to handle an actual scheme.
  12. This team has a passion and and an accountability with a desire to get better.
  13. We're 0-2. We've lost to a PAC-12 team where we made mistakes while trying to make plays, and a PAC-12 team which looks as if it will have a solid season. The second loss was to a squad which went into Tiger Stadium and beat LSU on the road and finished 11-2. This team is different defensively, it's trying to fly to the football and play with an intensity which was lacking for the last several years. Unfortunately, the previous regime had instilled an apathetic attitude and this doesn't change overnight or through spring camps. It will give up some big plays and will be out of position as the current staff tries to atone for the mistakes of the past. The offense has shown at times what it's capable of as it continues to improve. Unfortunately, Bunch missed some reads and obviously had some jitters in a first start. I'm sure Frost tried to make things as simple as possible to use Bunch's skill set. I think the best analogy of this whole process is when you rebuild a golf swing and stay committed to the process. The quick fix lessons seem to work for a bit, but sooner than later you go back to the bad habits/old swing which you've used for years. The process will see regression at times, but there will be flashes of the new style/swing. Soon the flashes are more consistent, and after time, it's all muscle memory and the swing has been completely rebuilt.
  14. I think it means more to the change of culture Frost is trying to instill within the program. The team was upset it lost, Frost was upset they lost. They didn't shrug their shoulders and say "oh well, no big deal, on to next week." There is a fire about this program. Accountability. Passion. Core Values from a coach who understands a winning culture and not a culture of mediocrity. This loss speaks volumes about installing a drive to win. I'm not upset the Huskers lost. I'm actually encouraged with what we saw on the field.
  15. Go deep on a sideline route, see if CU's DBs are back on their heels.
  16. That kick looked like one of my drives today during the golf tourney.
  17. Just shows how mismanaged and how awful of a coach Diaco was.
