  1. I would guess it's mostly a preference thing for Riley and the coaches, and is probably how he's done it since being at OSU (haven't looked into it so can't confirm for sure). It gives the coaches time to take vacations and rest during the dead period rather than having to stay around and focus on recruiting and attending the camps. Also, obviously the goal is to have recruits commit but I think one of the main goals of our FNL camps is to get recruits on campus and in the city so they can experience it for themselves, then set up official visits for later in the fall.
  2. Damn man. Tragedy always strikes when you least expect it. RIP Sam and Mike. I'm sure the team will do something great to honor one of the best punters in Nebraska history.
  3. It's weird to see an all-century team without Burkhead, IMPO.
  4. While it's ultimately a good move for financial and stability reasons, I'd like the move to the B1G more if we played in a division that featured any combination of OSU, Mich, PSU, and even Mich St. That's what I thought we'd be getting when we made the move initially, but now it's just like we play in the Big 12 North again. I don't understand why we keep getting stuck in the lessor of two divisions regardless of the conference we're in. Our conference home slate of Illinois, Purdue, Minnesota, and Maryland this year leaves a lot to be desired, and won't do much in the way of piquing the interest of husker football to everyday fans here.
  5. This is probably an example of "common knowledge" not actually reflecting reality. HEre's an article on point, though it does only discuss OL. http://coachingsearch.com/article?a=does-an-experience-offensive-line-lead-to-more-success A 7-win season would be massively disappointing and would indicate to me that this staff doesn't have what it takes to maintain the Husker standard. Good point except NU has no where near that talent that those teams did. NU has arguably the most talented roster in the B10, except for OSU. No one is expecting an NC, or even a playoff berth. But a 7-win season with the talent on this team would be a shameful waste. Less than 7 wins, and I'll be nodding along to the fire them sooner than later train of thought. I know you said arguably, but OSU, PSU, Mich, and Mich St all have more talent on their roster than we do. That aside, I agree that a 7-win season with these players would be a huge disappointment. We should have one of, if not the best offense in the conference this season. Would be tough to stomach to have all those play makers and still only manage 7 wins.
  6. Winning football games has a luck component. You cannot predict any outcome based solely on past results, while ignoring all other factors. To argue otherwise is factually incorrect. And you've made numerous factually incorrect statements in this thread. Also, why is your magical number 12? I didn't see you on this board saying this is the holy grail of predictors when they only had 9 seasons in a row. At what number of correctly predicted seasons in a row did you consider them 100% accurate at predicting the next season's outcome?
  7. They were accurate at picking it 12 years in a row. That doesn't mean only teams that meet the metric can win a national championship. It means there's a very high probability that the winner of the national championship will be one of those teams. Also, saying they did it 12 years in a row sounds neat but when you pick 10+ teams per year it's not all that amazing. There are probably lots of other ways that 10 teams can be picked and they've been correct many times in a row. In the last 15 years, every team that ended up ranked #1 in the final AP poll was ranked in the top 22 in the preseason poll. Okay, that's 22 teams. It's not as good, but it took me 3 minutes to find it. If Auburn hadn't won it, we could say teams ranked in the top 13 over the past 15 years. Nope... it means there is a 100% probability that the winner of the National Championship will be one of the teams that met the metric. Each year somewhere around 7 teams in the country meet the metric. This last season Alabama met the metric and won the National title. The year before Ohio State met the metric and Oregon did not. Ohio State won the national title. It's been that way for the last 12 years in a row. This brilliant research is proof of the critical importance of high level recruiting in college football. It's mandatory if you want to win a national championship. You may not like this fact... but unfortunately for you... it's a fact. If Nebraska or Oregon or Notre Dame or Iowa or any college football team wants to win national titles... very high level recruiting is mandatory. I would highly recommend you don't play Roulette. This is about achievement, not luck. Achievement that hasn't happened yet, so luck.

  9. Was anyone else surprised that they only interviewed 3 student athletes for this review (out of 237 total people interviewed)? While I admittedly have no experience with reviews such as this, I would have figured the student athlete's opinion would have factored more into the overall conclusions drawn about the student athlete experience. However, I do question how they can draw any sort of conclusion about the student athlete's opinion with a sample size of only 3. Student Athlete Perspective The student athletes interviewed provided very positive perspectives. They expressed positive experiences as student athletes both with leadership in their sports and the Department of Athletics as a whole. Communication between students and staff is good and also perceived to be good among leadership. Overall, they are satisfied with resources and support offered and believe their interests as students are taken to heart by leadership. With regard to focus on student athletes, student interviews revealed the following themes: ï‚· Leadership perceived as awesome, kind, caring and consistent, which puts the welfare of student athletes first and foremost. Nebraska creates support for all student athletes across the board while other universities only offer some support for their headcount programs. ï‚· The Director of Athletics and the Department of Athletics are all about the student athlete experience and employee development. The Director of Athletics is open to changes in performance management and taking a look at strengths-based development. ï‚· The Director of Athletics looks for opportunities to connect all aspects of the student athlete experience. He is really good at integration of academics and sports (e.g. he introduced journalism students at spring games). ï‚· Shawn and the team in the Department of Athletics support the welfare of the athlete.
  10. When did any back run all over us last year? OK - If we're judging this year's expectations on last year's results, looks like I'll change my prediction to 5-7 with losses against Purdue and Illinois. As others above have stated, I think we see a fairly large dropoff in our rush defense compared to last year with the loss of 5 defensive lineman, 2 of which were good enough that they were drafted in the third round. A scheme is only as good as the guys you have playing it. Not that I think the guys we will have playing are bad - just that they are very very inexperienced. Notice how I didn't say anyone will run all over us the last four games? That's because I do believe Parrella will coach them up and they will improve as the year goes on.
  11. Fresno W - Win easy Wyoming W - Win easy Oregon L - Pass defense does great, but Royce Freeman runs all over us. Oregon wins a shootout. @ Northwestern L - Pass defense does great, but Justin Jackson runs all over us. Northwestern wins a shootout. Illinois W - Win easy @ Indiana L - Pass defense finally gets exposed. Indiana wins a shootout. Purdue W - Win easy @ Wisconsin L - Pass defense does great, but Corey Clement runs all over us. Wisconsin wins a shootout. @ tOSU L - OSU wins about 28-10 Minnesota W - Win easy Maryland W - We barely squeak out a win. @ Iowa L - Iowa wins in a blowout. Final: 6-6
  12. Ya'll are pretty quick to judge a 17 year old posting stuff on twitter..
  13. Serious question here completely unrelated..is there a way to mute someone on this board? I've seen people mention it before but I can't seem to find a button or anything.
  14. I know the popular narrative is to blame last years lackluster results on the quality of the players, but MB's defenses weren't that great even before last year. You could say the same thing about MB's defenses at Oregon St though. All I'm saying is it's not like Banker inherited the #1 defense in the B1G, he inherited the #9 defense in the B1G if you are looking at PPG. Last year, we only dropped one spot from #9 to #10 even though the players had to learn a completely different scheme. Many people here are acting like our defensive struggles started last year with Banker, but they started wayyy before then.
  15. As much flack as Banker gets (and probably deserves) for our defensive struggles his first year, you can definitely see the decline in performance that happened during Bo's tenure. We had some good starters, but Banker was left with pretty minimal depth at most positions. PPG 2009 - 1st 2010 - 2nd 2011 - 7th 2012 - 9th 2013 - 6th 2014 - 9th
  16. We offered last Friday and we are in his Top 10. Looks like a heavy Bama lean though. https://twitter.com/Smityyy03/status/725339014631292928

  18. The current size of our class is one thing I am not bearish on. Having 7 (possibly to be 8 by Saturday) at this point in time is pretty good for us historically. Usually we start slow because it's hard to convince guys to pay their way to come out here for unofficials. Keep in mind these guys haven't even started their senior season yet.
  19. Two four star commits is arguably our best WR class of all-time? That's pretty sad
  20. People want to be the first person to say 'N' when he commits
  21. So if a team with a run-centric offense faced a team that had the #1 rush defense in the country, but the #127 pass defense in the country, you would not pass the ball any more than you usually would?
  22. So if a team with a west coast offense faced a team that had the #1 pass defense in the country, but the #127 rush defense in the country, you would not run the ball any more than you usually would?
