  1. Well the brining is a given. Pretty much have to do that for a good turkey no matter how you cook it. I don't know of a lot of choices here; Roast it, Fry it, Smoke it.......
  2. And as far as if we win these next 2 or 3 games. It makes absolutely no difference to me. I already know what we'll get out of a Bo coached team in any game that makes a difference. these next 3 games don't qualify and I don't care what our record is at the end of the season. This program has got to start winning games of substance.
  3. I've got nothing against Bo personally. (easy to say cuz I don't know him personally but just sayin). I know some people can't get past his demeanor and antics. Those aren't what bother me. I kind of like it when he gets fired up. However, I don't like it when he totally loses it and starts ripping players, distracting the team, and not doing his job. What bothers me and why I'm ready for change is his total lack willingness to change. Particularly in these blowouts losses, the coaches have failed to even try anything different. When things go south they look like deer in headlights. Try different players, try different sets, anything but don't keep doing the exact same thing expecting different results. That more than anything is why Bo needs to go. Running a close 2nd would be his disdain for the fans and the attitude that instills in his players. All of them would be better off accepting responsibility and worrying about what they're doing and tuning out the noise of a disgruntled fan base. WE (the fans) are not the problem but Bo and Kenny and some others don't get that. Really tired of some of these players saying they'd fight at the gates of hell for Bo. Apparently Wisconsin and MSU are more intimidating than the gates of hell cuz they sure seem to check out in any game against a ranked opponent. And that is a result of the culture Bo has cultivated around this program. It's a cancer really.
  4. Haha, you funny. If you aren't Christian, you sure as hell aren't Catholic. The fact that you think you could be one without the other tells me all I need to know.
  5. I won't say I disagree with you but, I seriously doubt these young kids give a sh#t about our history and tradition. Sure it's important to us as fans but the kids, probably not so much.
  6. I think some of us, myself included, only appear to get all worked up over thE relatively unimportant thing that is Husker football. It really is not THAT important to me when compared to my family, work, friends, etc. Bit ching and talking football is just a distraction from vastly more important things. I assume it is like that for most people. I mean really, I couldn't care less if Pelini stayed here for 20 more years and we never beat a ranked team once. I'd probably quit watching games and coming to HB to talk about it but it sure wouldn't change my life.
  7. By saying "it's time to see if we can do better" I'm assuming you'd be will to say "we tried" if we fall to 3 - 9 or worse for the next 4 years or so. Seems like folks just believe a simple coaching change will bring us back to our glory days. In my opinion, that was lightning in a bottle and we have a way higher chance of really falling than we do improving. But, having said that, I'm OK now with making a change too. But I do realize it may make things way worse to the point we find ourselves hoping for a 10 win season, or worse, hoping for a winning season like we did when I first started following Husker football in the early to mid 60s. I fully realize that with a coaching change there may be some steps backwards before things improve. I can accept that. The 9 wins don't mean anything to me when they are accompanied by ugly losses to any halfway decent team. Personally, with our schedule and this conference, I don't see how it gets any worse than it has been under Bo. Maybe one more loss than he's had, every once in awhile but, I'll trade that for competing with some ranked teams. Victories over the Purdues, Illinois, McNeese, etc. is nothing if we can't make a reasonable showing against a top 25 team.
  8. If we lose Minny and Iowa, that should be enough. I'm good for him to go now but some people would get a little squeamish getting rid of a 10-2 coach. Where's that f'ing Pedersen when you need him. We're way past the point where record matters IMO. It has been proven the program will not move forward and the gut wrenching embarrassments aren't ending. To me, a 10-2 regular season record does not solve any problem or concern. It's time to see if we can do better and win something of substance and I'm not talking about some stupid Heroes or Freedom trophy.
  9. Well, it is just basketball on field turf after all. When he first said that, I thought he meant it as some sort of analogy or generalization. I'm now pretty sure he really doesn't understand the difference.
  10. I'e never used any of those fancy Traeger or pellet machines. Always old school charcoal. We built a vertical, 3 shelf smoker that is about a 28" diameter vertical tube. Have about 10" to 12" between shelves. Can get a bunch of meat in there at once. Mounted well thermometers in the side walls so have some idea what the ambient temp is. It works great but you can't really walk away and forget about it. Constantly adding more smoking wood or charcoal. Try to keep it around 200 degrees for most everything. Have had really good results with pork butts, brisket, turkeys, and hams. Other things we've smoked that were awesome- Fresh side (this is bacon that has not been processed) awesome to just smoke it for about 1 hour. Corned Beef Brisket. Smoke it once, then slice it, and smoke or grill the slices until they are a little carmelized. OMG. Leg of lamb or lamb roast. Was awesome but doesn't keep like pulled pork or brisket. Eat it all and don't refrigerate. Jalapeno Sausage, only takes about 1.5 hrs. We use King Soopers (Kroger) brand and it's great.
  11. Great Op Carl and great post BRB. +1's to both of ya. Carl's OP described me down to the exact number rating for each season. Next year is looking to be a 1 if Pelini is not released. I'm not real sure I'm going to get up in time to watch the Minny game this weekend. Right now, if I did get up, it would be halfway hoping they get their a$$es handed to them and I know that just isn't right but, it is what it is.
  12. I'd keep Ron Brown and let the OP go. But that's me.
  13. I,....I .....I just don't know what to say after reading that. Football is hard (in my really dumb, hairlip guy voice). I simply have never heard a player sound so clueless. Poor OL, they gotta figure out who to block, pick up blitz's, and keep the snap count straight.... Oh my the difficulty. You would think they never practice. You would think other teams don't have the same level of difficulty. We need to get this thing into the off season and make some CHANGES, and I mean significant changes. The mental state of this team might be the place to start. Wow!
  14. But zoogs, THAT is exactly why the coaching is the first thing to look at. It's not 1 or 2 or 3 players, it's the whole unit. That is coaching, scheme, and prep, and not individual effort.
  15. Day after day I'm more confused,. Yet I look for the light through the pouring rain. You know that's a game that I hate to lose. And I'm feeling the strain, ain't it a shame.

  16. we are not competing in the sec. we are competing in the big 10. when we can win our division, i will worry about competing with bama. We are not in the Top 4 of Head Coach pay or Top 3 of Staff pay in the Big Ten. So, your saying Bo and his staff are being paid commensurate with where they typically finish in the B1G. Makes sense to me. If he/they deserved to be paid more, they would have to earn it first by fielding a better product. Throwing more money at them won't make them coach better or change their results. Performance comes before reward.
  17. Except it's been a major topic of discussion since Bill Callahan put the nail in the coffin. Even during the 2009 season when we had the best defense in the country. Why did I even bother to say "for the past five years"? Okay. Let me put it another way. If Tommie Frazier was running Tom Osborne's offense, and then had to hand the game over to the current Husker defense, we wouldn't be celebrating the glory days of the mid-90s. Nebraska's problem isn't the offense we we choose run (which everyone else in the country considers "run heavy.") It's the complete executional meltdown by offense, defense and special teams when we play good teams in high-pressure games,. The problem is when the exact same things that worked in previous games don't work, the entire team and coaching staff panics. When your best player fumbles three times, your receivers drop balls, your quarterback keeps looking helplessly to the sideline, and your vastly improved defense suddenly loses the will to tackle the player running right past them for 408 yards. When the halftime speeches and adjustments inspire the whole team to come out in the second half and play even worse. Don't assume a new offensive coordinator would call significantly different plays than Tim Beck, any more than you assumed Tim Beck would call significantly different plays than Shawn Watson. Or any different than Wisconsin OC Andy Ludwig, who has called several games this year that would drive the same Beck-haters nuts. Nebraska lack discipline, mental toughness and consistency across the board. That's a head coaching issue. But by all means, keep throwing the OC under the bus. Amen! (to the whole post but the bolded in particular)
  18. Yes. Recruiting had exactly dick to do with the result of the Wiscy game, or any of the other blowouts for that matter.
  19. I am really getting frustrated with all these solutions that assume things can get better with new coordinators. Bo is the HC...who is going to pick these new coordinators? What coordinators are going to work for Bo? Why do we need Bo if somebody (Eichorst or whoever) has to force him to change coordinators? What has anyone seen of Bo Pelini to make them think a situation like this could possibly work? Does Bo strike you as the type to listen to new ideas and release control of his team? Can you picture him trying to make anything work that was forced upon him? Sorry folks, we aren't getting out of this situation without a major shake up that includes a new head coach. Yes, the current OC and DC are huge problems but Pelini is part and parcel of the problem at this point. there is no separating them. He made his bed. New coordinators are NOT the solution. Good ones won't be given free reign to do what they want and they won't work for him. Period. And the bad ones....well we've already got two bad coordinators. Plus, why in the hell would it be desirable to keep Bo at this point? What on earth does he bring to the table? Nine wins? Almost any coach could get 9 wins with our resources and these schedules. That can't be it. Defensive guru? Sorry, that ones been debunked. Fan and media relations? Ok, that was uncalled for, I'm just being mean now. Sorry, he is not contributing anything unless you like seeing the team pitted against the fans. So, let's please stop with the all we need is new coordinators bs. IT WON'T WORK.
  20. I knew Camp Randall was a tough environment but, worse than the gates of hell.......
  21. I don't want grumbling and disloyalty. In fact I want him sticking up for his coach. But this isn't the way to do it. I know the proper behavior isn't being modeled by Pelini but, it would be nice if he could support his coach and team mates without villianizing the fans and embracing the "us vs them" culture that Bo promotes. I guess the total detachment from reality is what bugs me the most with the Kenny & Bo vs the fans issue. Nobody in that locker room seems to realize that what happened on the field Saturday, and many previous times, is not acceptable. Losing is one thing, most of us can deal with that fine but, the total ineptitude and then the lack of accepting any responsibility or evenacting like there might be a solution.......it boggles my mind that they can't understand the criticism.
  22. When AA says something like this, let me know. Kenny does it All. The. Time. That is why he is taking grief for it. He's really developed quite a martyr complex. It's sad because the fro was lovable until he started talking out his a$$.
