  1. Some creative defense changes to confuse them for a half. Second half the Spartans will adjust and Cook will fix his issues and they will pound us (most likely). Only an injury or fluke plays coming out of the half would keep this one close. You can just feel the pressure and the inevitability of what's coming this half.
  2. That was the killer. Two or three key and critical places in the game when play calls were poor and the defense failed us. That is the difference. Very dangerous place in the game because we played as well as we could this half and it was not good enough. Very unlikely we can play anywhere close to this well in the second half for two quarters and now we have to play even better. It was a fun half.
  3. Cook must have an injured throwing hand. Poorly thown balls.
  4. Christ, how can they get in these down and distance things. Run basic plays on 1st and ten. Crap.
  5. This is turning point in the game. If we don't get a pick or something, we are DOA. They score here, we will be sunk. they are in control here.
  6. Penalty killed us and play calling sucked there. We should have thrown a short out pass on 1st. Take an easy 7 or or so on 1st down. Then run the full back on second up the middle for 3 or 4 more. Now 3rd and 10 or so. QB draw or roll out. Set the ball and kick the 3. Stupid. Instead an INT.
  7. Big danger here. Defense must make a big play now. Get a turnover. Pick 6. Time to play to win this game. Not patty cakes.
  8. Special teams starting to let us down again. 18 yard punt. Ugly. Shoot we need to get them pinned back.
  9. Injuries never seem to cease for our best players. Hope westy is OK. Dam, we need him to catch 7 more TD passes tonight.
  10. I get so tired of Gary Sharp radio call. He says almost same thing on every play. Rarely do you have any idea what kind of play is being run or even the yardage gained reasonably. He loses control of his voice on plays and you'd think we had a big gain (when just a couple), etc. Pass plays are never described in terms of kind of routes, etc. You hear "Tommy throws. Westercamp catch!" Gain of 13 yards and first down. You have no idea what kind of play it was. Sometimes Davison will add a few bits of information but still we don't know what happened. I would like to know if it over the middle, a curl, a sideline out pattern, a slant, a screen, etc.
  11. Critical the offense gets a TD drive NOW! Cannot play patty cakes with them or will get ugly. Cook will only throw like Tommy for so long.
  12. Again, not trying to run the ball. We know they are much better but still you have to try. Or run the QB. Desperately needed a couple first downs and pin them back deep. Now, we face the rest of the half potentially with our defensive back against the wall. It is critical when you are underdogs to get out early. We get lucky and survived first drive with the 4th down stopper. Then go a lightning quick 3 & out. Preserve the clock for the Spartans. MSU trying to win a national title so it is important that big Ten teams cooperate and help them look their best. LOL
  13. I think Collins would start on perhaps half the teams but would not likely make the starting line ups of Michigan, Mich State, and certainly Ohio state. I think he gets second team honors or certainly hon. mention. Not first team. There are at least ten very talented DTs in the conference. I don't think Lewis should be starting at Nebraska. It was alarming when a mediocre tackle from Colorado transfers to Nebraska and suddenly is our 'best' linement, it is a strong indication that our O line is lacking talent. I doubt Lewis is even hon mention all conference. Again, I don't think he is our best linement and we don't have any that appear anywhere near hon mention all conference.
  14. Another way a person can evaluate relative talent of teams (virtually any judgement has to be subjective and 'eye' test test once basic stats and numbers are crunched) is to ask yourself a simple question: Could a given player start for the opposing team in his position or other teams in the conference etc? In my view, we do not have many players that appear to be better than their counterparts on the teams we have played this year. In Big Ten, I don't think we have many players that are clearly superior to the players on the other teams. Westy is better than half the receivers in the league surely but he make lack pure size and speed to be selected as first team all conference. He could make hon mention surely. I think our punter would be second or third team all conference. Tommy Armstrong on his best game is surely in the better half of the conference as a QB (that is saying something for Nebraska to have a QB in the better group as a 'passer'). But I don't think he gets honors at year end. After those guys, I am not sure I see any. We have D linement who are playing pretty well but NOT all conference in my view. Our run stopping is good enough but no sacks. Injuries, etc. have really dogged this team and kept the balance and development down to a very subpar level.
  15. In terms of evaluating talent, it really doesn't necessarily matter where the players come from (Nebraska vs all over the country). I think the best indicator of the relative talent of a team's players as compared to their opponents/peers would be the numbers of selections to the various all conference and similar teams after the season's over. I think you will find a dramatic decline in the number of all conference (1st, second and hon mention) honorees at Nebraska over the past 20 years. This will be a strong indicator that our recruiting is not competitive with the rest of the conference and country nationally.
  16. I don't think an 'upset' is likely. this team (MSU) is too experienced and will be cool under duress. It will take a mirable of near Biblical proportions frankly. Everyone should be sure the have at least two seperate recordings of this game set up and ready because if we win this, it may be one of the greatest Husker wins in history! this could be like one of those historic moments in time where everyone will always remember (e.g. 9/11; D Day, Pearl Harbor, the 1996 Fiesta Bowl, etc.) This could one of those unforgettable times over a lifetime. Or, then again, it may be something one can never forget, no matter how hard you try! If you ever had even a minimum of religious faith, I suggest you start praying now and continue uninterrupted untill about 11 PM tonight!
  17. Terry Pettit. Hahahahahaha I am afraid Terry Pettit would not get an interview and would not even apply. He left with some untidy off the court issues that were kept very quiet. I imagine those long term volleyball fans can advise but I feel it best to not mention the details (just think Frank Solich if you would like a hint).
  18. Just a little odd to me: the timing of this 'visit' is nothing short of terrible if you are Mike Riley (unless he and Mike Riley and Spurrier are good buddies and he is here to offer his support and positive commentary). I would think the rumors would be running wild that Spurrier is here to replace Riley. Why even let something like this get started. An explanation is certainly in order by the AD.
  19. True but neither is sitting there complaining and wringing your hands and bitching. The idea is to put the stinking fire out -safely and quickly but smartly - figure out what started the fire and how to avoid future fires by ridding ourselves of the flammable materials and the ignition sources. the point is to be constructive and positive by recognizing things are not as they should be and working in a positive manner to help the program get better in the future.
  20. So what, as fans, can we actually do to get the board and President to step up and stop this train wreck? These comments are literally 'off the deep end' and way out there in the Twillight Zone people! Come on. We lose a few games by a couple dozen points total and now you want to burn the entire University to the ground? LOL You are totally NUTS! Bonkers!!! Insane!!! Crazy!!!! Looney Tunes!!!~! Wacko!!!
  21. Punting average has increased, mostly because we have not downed punts inside the twenty and so the punter has a longer average kick but the "net" is much poorer. Punt returns have been mediocre but we miss DPE greatly for a bunch of games. Kick off returns been abismal but frankly number of good opportunites been limited and the return, Stephenson is a raw freshman out of shape and apparently not really very good at it. Not sure why Nebraska has not had any talent in the return game sinc Frank Solich had DeJuan Groce. Maybe I am forgetting somebody but? Kicking about same, slight improvement. Couple were bad snaps this year I think. Coverage has struggle. A lack of quality depth was mentioned. Yes, but we are having to play our 'best' and can't use the third and fourth string. Actually, I am not sure we have a 4th string anymore. We don't seem to have as many players on the team period. Special teams is not good enough. About like last year to me. Below average at best - an overall grade of D+.
