  1. Hopefully better than 5-3, but that may be realistic. DBs haven't been impressive so far, but it is also too early IMO to say we won't see improvements in the year. While it seems very unlikely right now, I'm hoping for the best.
  2. Agree we need to beat better teams, but games like this allows us to see player improvement, adjustments, and more game experience with a new system.
  3. Love beating Iowa. Don't consider them a rival, but a team we should beat every year unless they turn the program around and become good. Going 7-5 would be disappointing to me, regardless of who we beat this year. I expected a 8-9 win team this year, but also wasn't going to be entirely shocked if we had 7 wins. If we do go 7-5, which is certainly possible, my view of the season will be about the games we lost, and how we lost them. Obviously I'm not happy with our record, but as of now these losses are not complete negatives. We've seen some positives and have been fighting to try to win, just have had a few quarters of not being there mentally. I do feel like we make more adjustments this year than in the past. I also think if its third and one, we need to give it to Cross and pound it. IMO he is being underused, BUT, I will also say this: I'm not at practice and don't see what the coaches see day in and day out. I'm sure they have their reasons for his usage so far.
  4. Good post and photos. I've read posters and articles talking about how poor line play has been, but didn't agree with them. We have a ways to go in improving, but I didn't feel the line has been the weakest link so far on offense. I like your breakdown with still photos. One thing I would want to see is a bit more rotation on the line--not a ton, but enough where line is ready in case someone goes down with an injury.
  5. My guess is the staff will keep his return quiet. No reason to give the other team (whenever he returns) time to prepare for him. Hopefully he is fully healed before he takes the field. It'd be terrible if he wasn't and reinjured it right away. He definitely helps us.
  6. It's early in the season with a new program. I'll keep supporting the young men and the staff. It's too early to honestly say we are moving up or down, IMO.
  7. At the end of the day, I'm disappointed we lost, but proud of of the team and how they fought back. It could have snow balled and became a blowout, which many thought (including me). Blowout or not, I will support these players. We aren't a playoff contender this year, or probably a few years (if recruits are right for the system and defense improves), but I'll be supporting the players. HCMR could do well here, time will tell. I'm not sold on him yet, but I'm also not saying he will fail. I want him to do well and hope we continually approve under him.
  8. Defense. Pass defense especially. We need to be able to pressure the QB with our Dline. We were in no means impressive against the pass. Personally, on offense, I'd like to see Cross getting the ball going north/south next week and more carries. He's not an AA, but the guy runs hard and can get us good yardage if we give him the chance. He isn't a back that can run to the side with our line. Receivers need to find a way to be ready to catch, and be hit.
  9. This is funny. Yeah, I'm sure the coaches are telling him to throw off his back foot and to not go past his first read. Must be coaching. Lol. The results don't lie. Neither does the eye test. Tommy is fighter and warrior. He has heart for miles and I love him for it. However, his decision making and technique isn't there. These coaches either need to establish the run game or change to a QB that can go through progression. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I felt Tommy played fairly well today. Good throws and decision-making for the most part. If his last pass wasn't under thrown, would you be blaming his decision making? I hope we see more runs from him. Utilize his strengths more.
  10. He had 4 tonight. I know we had 3 too many men in the backfield, and at least 2 12 men on the field.4, for a senior captain...ouch. Of course no comparison, but Will Shields played his last 9 year in the Pros with ONE penalty...ONE. Well coached teams dont have that many penalties. I agree well-coached teams have less penalties, but it is also hard to break certain habits. From what I've heard, MR's teams have had many penalties in the past. It can also be a sign of an aggressive team, but ours tonight we're not aggressive penalties. Hopefully he can fix all these illegal formation, and other penalties before the ball is snapped. Those are coachable and need to be fixed soon.
  11. Unless you count the one that cost us the game I guess? Any dropped pass we had that would have converted a first down could have led to a touchdown. We aren't in the same situation.
  12. Receiver was open, Tommy under threw the pass. That didn't lose us the game, nor did the penalty following it. You have to look at the entire game, not just a few plays and say this is why. That's like saying, well, I failed the test ONLY because I missed the last two questions. Get real, if we don't start off so sluggish, we would have been in a better position to win. The loss doesn't fall on any single play.
  13. For people blaming coaches, you probably haven't coached anything above midget football. You can always pin it on one or the other, and I think this year, it's more of a new coach/system. Coaches made adjustments. Coaches don't account for the dropped passes. What was it, less than a week ago there was a post about how great our receivers were? Think the coaches went out this week and taught receivers how not to catch? Players weren't mentally ready right away to play, especially Davie (who, shouldn't start another game until he proves himself, which is a coaching issue). It was a combination of both coaching and players that got us off to a slow start. It was the same combination that fought back. Also, sometimes a team comes out playing well, which Miami did.
  14. Davie, and dropped passes. Those two mistakes hurt, but it's more than the end of the game that costs a team a game.
  15. We gave them a huge lead by starting Davie, so it's not just that "they handed it to us."
  16. Why wouldn't they go for it? Seems dumb to me. Glad they kneed it though!
  17. Win or lose, glad we fought back. Know we had some comebacks under Bo, but I think this would have been a complete meltdown and a blowout under him. GBR, let's do this men!
  18. No it's freaking not! We just won't let them do what they do best.it isn't stocked very well Agreed. We are slim in certain areas. Linebackers are weak, for one,
  19. New here. Davie giving up big plays in the first quarter stuck us in a hole, and specially with all of the dropped passes we have had. In regards of the defense, I feel like we were mislead in how good our defensive line was. On the boards before the season reading posts, many posts talked about how our d-line was talented and would be feared. The fact that they aren't, and aren't doing much, hurts the lb and coverage. Tommy has looked good IMO, receivers have dropped way too many passes. Big hits or not, you need to catch it and expect a hit. Some have commented on the coaching hire, and I was 50/50 with MR. I came to that conclusion after researching him and his career (I hadn't heard of him before he was hired). I think Bo needed to go, and not 100% sure with this hire, but I am giving him time and supporting him. Still a lot of football to be played in this game. We get a couple of stops, and the offense steps up, we aren't out of this. It will take salty play on defense and no more dropped passes.
