  1. You don't understand how things work very well do you? Riley just went 9-4, we aren't firing him to hire Chip Kelly or Les Miles and ESPECIALLY not Jim Tressel. And guess what? You have made your opinion of the current staff plenty clear. You can stop forcing it down everyones throats and discuss the topics at hand. Never said anything about firing him, because I don't see that happening, even if we go sub .500 next year. I'm just saying that we're going nowhere fast and each subpar season sets us back further.
  2. You don't read very well. Who said anything about hiring Saban or Meyer? I already stated that Saban and Meyer aren't realistic options. However, there are plenty of other big names out there -- Miles, Kelly, even Tressel. And yes, money talks. Throw 4 or 5 million at a big name guy and make him say no. Or, you can take the cheap economical route and hire an unproven commodity and hope and pray and try to convince yourself that he'll somehow turn things around. He won't.
  3. From what I hear, that's what they've been offering our recruits on their visits. Hasn't worked out too well.
  4. Like I said before, the writing on the wall is obvious. If you want to keep ignoring it, you're perfectly entitled to do that. But don't crucify the ones who choose to acknowledge it, especially when to this point it's turned out to be right, well, pretty much every time.
  5. The thing is, I'm not ALWAYS pessimistic. I am the first to give props and positivity when something is done well. Unfortunately those events nowadays are few and far between. Over the past 15+ years this is what I have come to expect. There has been nothing to convince me that things are going to change anytime soon. It has nothing to do with "I told you so" -- it's more that people need to open their eyes and accept the truth and stop being complacent and/or in denial. If you truly want to be an elite program, especially at a geographically disadvantaged school, you have to be willing to pull out all the stops and play big-boy ball. We haven't shown the willingness to do that.
  6. No narrative. The posts in this thread nullify the validity of your post. Bottom line is, I'm batting 1000 this year. I predicted every win and every loss, including saying that the Buckeyes would beat us by at least 40. Only thing I was wrong about was saying that the Wisconsin game would be close. I said Tennessee would win the bowl, and we'd finish 9-4. Through it all I was called a Debbie downer and negative nancy, but I'm ok with it. Sadly, this is what I've come to expect from this program. It's also what I've come to expect from most of the fans -- any inking of pessimism or negativity is frowned upon -- ignoring the writing on the wall or pretending it's not there isn't going to change things; it only prolongs things. That's the current state of the program. You think you're helping, but defending subpar performance is actually part of the problem, not the solution. You will never see me complaining about it, just stating the obvious which so many others refuse to acknowledge. Next year we'll go 6-6, and that's being generous.
  7. I'm not even a fan of Miles, but I'm willing to admit that he's what Nebraska needs right now.
  8. Actually, you're wrong with that presumption. There were many who thought we had a decent chance at landing Filaga, Holmes, and/or Sarell. The thread title in itself proves that. Just because I disagree with your opinion doesn't make it necessarily wrong, and vice-versa... although up to this point, my viewpoints have rung true pretty much every time. On the flip side, I can guarantee that if we had landed 3 of them, there would be plenty of people saying, "Haha, we told you so." It works both ways.
  9. << Trouble is. An Urban Meyer and a Nick Saban aren't going to take a job at Nebraska, so that doesn't really matter.>> I disagree. Money talks. If you show that you're willing to pay big $ for a big name, there will be interest. I have no doubt Les Miles would come if offered. His son will be coming, and he's looking for one last chance to prove himself. He's an excellent recruiter, has beaten Saban multiple times, and had ties to the South. Chip Kelly is another. People told me a few years ago that Petersen would never, ever leave Boise, how he loved it there, they provided medical services for his son and blah blah blah. We all see how that turned out. You never know unless you try. Some people have given up and become content with mediocrity, simply because of these preconceived notions that an elite coach won't come here. That's B.S. As far as Frost goes, I like him. But I'm not sure that he'd be able to recruit any better than what we have experienced over the past decade. He really needs to have a breakout season similar to what Pj Fleck or Tom Herman had... that's when you pursue him, while he's a hot name on the coaching circuit. But if he never has that breakout, and never becomes a hot name, then why would top recruits want to play for him? Answer is, they won't.
  10. Nebraska makes huge revenue through football. They have plenty of $ to spend if they want to compete with the big boys. Since we're geographically disadvantaged, we probably should be spending even MORE than they are in order to compete.
  11. Listen -- when Riley was hired, he was given the resources and freedom to assemble a top-notch staff. But instead of doing that, the majority of guys he assembled were his buddies from Oregon State. He had the chance to hire Ed Orgeron as DC -- Orgeron publicly stated that he was interested -- but instead, he hired his buddy Banker. That's when I sensed we were in trouble.
  12. You've proven my point. Simply by being an NFL guy he was able to land 4 and 5-star guys. He told guys he had NFL connections and sold them on delusions of grandeur. Problem was, he was unproven as a college head coach, and turned out to be a poor one.
  13. You're trying really hard, but you're still failing. OSU opened up a state of the art lockerroom this season and they've also added to the stadium and practice facilities. Andersen is benefitting from Riley's hard work at OSU. You can use whatever excuses you want. Bottom line is, we lost out to two of our top WR targets to Oregon State. OREGON STATE!
  14. It's EXTREMELY difficult -- that's my point! Which is exactly why we need a big-name coach! You're telling me Meyer or Saban couldn't recruit to Lincoln? Top-tier kids will go wherever the top-tier coaches are. We don't currently have a top-tier coach; therefore they're not going to come here. Now, are we going to get Saban or Meyer? Of course not. But there are plenty of other big names out there -- Chip Kelly, for example -- who we could pursue. That's the only way we'll ever land the level of talent we need to compete.
  15. It's the same f'ing problem we have had since Tom retired! Stop acting like you are dropping knowledge all over this board, all you're dropping is the same crap you always do until your sock gets banned! LOL, why are you so mad, bro? The reason why I repeat myself is because people refuse to acknowledge the ongoing problem. Today is a prime example. I predicted us to land one of the four, and even saying that I was labeled a Debbie Downer. Really? It was fairly obvious to me that the only guy we stood a realistic shot of landing was Calvin. Yet, very few Husker fans wanted to acknowledge that, and I just don't understand why. Having hope is one thing, but you've also gotta be realistic. And for some reason, any time me (or another poster who sees things from a realistic view) says anything, we are crucified. Yet who are the ones mad and complaining now? Point proven.
  16. The writing was on the wall. Problem is, most Husker fans want to ignore it or pretend it's not there.
  17. 4 and 5-star guys are going to choose the school that gives them the best shot of making it to the NFL. Riley has the reputation of being a nice guy, but not necessarily a great coach. Only way we'll ever land top-tier recruits is if we hire a proven big name coach who kids will want to come to Lincoln to play for. Not sure why some people have such a tough time understanding or accepting that.
  18. The current class is, at present, ranked lower than any of Pelini's classes. We'll have to reach just to fill the class, which should never happen.
  19. LOL dude we'll be lucky to finish .500 next year
  20. Say what you want about me, but today is the perfect example of exactly what I'm talking about. Not only are we missing out on top targets, but we're losing them to Riley's previous school, where he supposedly had no resources. It's embarrassing.
  21. Wow... Calvin was the one guy I thought we stood a good shot at landing this weekend. And to make it worse, he chose Oregon State over us... isn't he the 2nd receiver to do so? We will likely land zero recruits this weekend... Ouch
  22. I've never seen this kid play. Obviously he's talented, but would he have put up similar numbers against tougher competition in Texas or California or Louisiana or Florida? Apparently the recruiting analysts think not. Maybe he's only a 2-star due to his academics and people thinking he wouldn't qualify?
  23. "Coach (insert big name here) would never come here; he'd never leave (insert other school name here)" Exhibit A: Chris Petersen when he was at Boise "Coach (insert big name here) wouldn't be able to land top recruits in Lincoln the way he does at (insert championship-winning program here)" Exhibit A: Les Miles
