  1. Darrion Daniels was this staff’s best pickup. Not only did he plug a major gap for us for a year, he helped get Damion on a better track to be this beast. Two years ago, Damion would have already on been on the bench exhausted.
  2. Beautiful play design at least lol. Sucks a penalty wiped it away.
  3. Lol fair, I’m just saying recruits want to believe they can play early if they earn it. Playing freshmen and sophomores (within reason) is a good thing for the team.
  4. I can tell you for a fact that the board would be unanimously disappointed with recruiting rankings if recruits believed they couldn’t play here until they were 22 years old. Even if it’s not practical for most players, recruits want to jump to the pros after their Junior/RS Sophomore season. A player in his academic junior year isn’t young.
  5. Sagarin actually has us as the underdog in this one so just looking for any type of win. A blowout win would show significant progress that the team is turning a corner in my opinion. Not that we’d have any shot at OU but that a bowl game is still very much in play. A close win is still a win.
  6. Definitely have to play catch up now but you just never know. That Michigan State game is a really winnable road game. Michigan will be tough but it’s a home game. If we have a chance to fight for win #6 at home, against Iowa then I like our chances even though they’re going to be tough. Should be a lot of emotion in that game. Of course, we could struggle with Buffalo, get stomped by OU, and then have a rough stretch of losses where a 4 win season is the ceiling but I’m still willing to be optimistic.
  7. Likely not going to matter but did find this interesting.
  8. One run, a fumbled exchange, and then the rest were pass plays.
  9. Very fair question, he has a pretty solid setup there. I think he’d consider us for two reasons: 1) He has notoriously butted heads with the AD there because he constantly loses assistants to lateral jobs. There was a stretch there where he basically lost a major assistant every single year lol. If he comes here and gets results, he’d only ever have to worry about losing a coach to a promotion/resume builder. 2) As good as he’s been there, they haven’t finished higher than #30 in recruiting and peer jobs like Cal, Colorado, and the Arizona’s shoot past Utah with ease whenever they have a decent coach/make the effort. It’s just such a cap on the ceiling there despite how great of a coach he is. Recruiting would actually be my biggest concern with hiring him. He has had it really easy recruiting underrated, in-state kids to fill out both lines and LBs. Then he finds talent where he can at skill positions. This wouldn’t be enough here. But he’s in the upper echelon of coaches and I think we’d love what our teams would look like if it happened.
  10. Definitely agree that our DLine wasn’t humiliated but I did notice this as well: Thinking we need Casey Rogers back in the worst way. I haven’t seen a snap count yet but it legitimately felt like Robinson and Daniels never came off the field and there’s just no way that’s a viable solution in a 12 game season. Wildeman being a 4-star non-contributor to this point has been a bummer.
  11. Beating up on a terrible Wagner team so far. Can’t really take anything away from a game like this but their QB’s arm has been impressive and the lines look good.
  12. Fwiw, I think you bring up a ton of great points but I just wanted to comment on this part real fast. I genuinely don’t think there have been more than a handful of players over the last decade that have lived and breathed being a Husker like Gebbia did. That guy was all about playing for Nebraska from the moment he committed until he lost the job to Martinez. At the time, there were a lot reports that the QB battle was intense but that Gebbia was winning more of the day to day stuff. They had a little chart with stars for good plays and Gebbia reportedly had way more stars. Martinez had issues with fumbling and hitting some of the necessary passes and a lot of people thought Gebbia might start but likely wouldn’t finish the season as the starter. But it sounds like the staff believed Martinez had a higher ceiling and they decided to go with him and I think Gebbia was pretty upset and rightfully figured he’d never get a real shot behind Frost’s QB. Not saying this as a way to criticize Frost because freshman year Martinez was a lot of fun to watch. But Gebbia was named captain at Oregon State this year despite losing the job to a grad transfer from Colorado. I don’t think his leaving was as simple as he was mad about losing the starting job but instead how he lost it if that makes sense.
  13. https://www.soundcloud.com/the-gary-sharp-show/august-30-segment-10-mike-schaefer-of-husker247 Here’s the link. Don’t recall Schaefer ever being that mad before but definitely a good listen.
  14. Looking at Sagarin after week 0: @Illinois - 77 Fordham - 216 Buffalo - 70 @Oklahoma - 2 @Michigan State - 99 Northwestern - 33 Michigan - 36 @Minnesota - 41 Purdue - 75 Ohio State - 3 @Wisconsin - 9 Iowa - 17 Their system currently has us ranked #108. It’s obviously a really tough schedule but there’s still a chance to turn the season around. Have to take care of the next two weeks then find a way to go 3-2 in between Oklahoma and Ohio State. Could give us a chance to be fighting for bowl eligibility at home the last week of the season. It could also go downhill real fast but trying to stay positive.
  15. Procedural penalties have also been a major issue with the young WRs in the program from every camp report since Frost has been here. There’s a lot of pre-snap stuff that goes on. No idea on specifics as it relates to Betts or Nixon, but wouldn’t surprise me if that’s been an issue in practice.
  16. Yup, as long as we’d spend big on an OC and offensive assistants for him, that would be a pretty great hire.
  17. Fwiw he was such a massive upgrade from Reggie Davis (at least from a recruiting effort standpoint) that I think it was easy to overrate him right away lol. Riley’s staff had to carry Reggie in recruiting his own position when RB coaches are typically among your best recruiters for most of the team. Held came in and did exactly what he was supposed to do: generate interest among recruits at several positions. But the results have been pretty hit or miss for us for sure and I’m not sure if it’s a scouting problem, a development problem, or what.
  18. In addition to revenue, I’m concerned about where our recruiting class would finish in that scenario.
