  1. Agree with you there ^ Watts film is incredible and I believe he is the better player.
  2. I do not know what to expect with Daniels. Fun recruiting battle here from an outsider's perspective. Two new DCs, has to like the depth at his position for both schools, two NFL standout DLinemen as his position coach. Of course he could always pick UTSA and surprise everyone lol. Colorado got bent over in their bowl game but their DLine was impressive and their NT will get drafted from what I've read.
  3. Tosh Lupoi was basically untouchable and out of college football for the shady recruiting he does + the breaking of written and unwritten rules. This is not something a young hot shot coach has in bio: He served as an analyst for the Crimson Tide during the 2014 season after spending the previous six years at California and Washington. He has slowly worked his way back as a position coach and now a "co-DC" on a staff where everyone knows Pruitt does everything Xs and Os. Did he get that promotion so he wouldn't go to an in conference competitor? Maybe he's learned some stuff coaching under Saban/Pruitt but he's always been a guy who you hire knowing that recruiting is number #1 and coaching comes a few numbers after that. It feels like Cal to not only hire him back but as a DC. Can't imagine giving him that much responsibility but maybe Riley feels the talent and recruiting has to get better first and foremost.
  4. I think we might see some new staff turnover on a previously committed DB or two there. Lenoir, Redd, Gibson, Graham is the secondary going forward I would imagine.
  5. "What's it all for?" Seems fair to me but I understand the frustration. His family has made sacrifices too, they want to be there for their son. Remember too that the 3+ years aren't just about Lincoln vs Corvallis, I'm not even sure they likely make every one of either of those games. It's also about the 4 opponents that are within an 8hr drive, which means a hotel isn't necessary, and the 2 opponents that are right in the city they live in. Compared to games that could stretch all the way across the country in Pennsylvania and Maryland. I'd also imagine that every single Oregon State game has cheaper tickets than any Nebraska game. Hoping whatever decision he makes ends up being the right one for him because Nebraska is a great location for college football if his parents will let him.
  6. Lol yeah, definitely a quirky character. I actually think he would be a splash hire, the man won the Broyles award. He and DeRuyter are two of the top DCs out there right now, but they're 3-4 guys.
  7. Would stay far, far away from Tosh Lupoi, not even for a vacant position coach. It's unknown how much coaching he actually does still, and not only are his recruiting methods shady, but he's generally considered terrible among his peers. He was recruiting Cal players to his next desitination (Washington) while still employed by Cal.
  8. Bob Diaco is a weird, weird dude. Think his act is fine as a DC though, just not HC material. He runs a 3-4 to my knowledge.
  9. Tl;dr apologies The rankings can be completely wrong from time to time, for sure. For a lot of really talented kids, if the big state schools don't notice or don't offer them, then other P5 teams often don't either. Kids can also receive too high of rankings for having great size right away, happens on the OL all the damn time. A kid will be ~290+ and steamrolling other high schoolers but they may have already reached their peak athletically or framewise. Meanwhile, a 6'7" kid with incredible athleticism and a frame that can hold 315lbs will be a 2* because they are only 245lbs (as juniors often times) and the big boy programs don't want to invest multiple years waiting for them to be ready. It's how some G5 teams can hang with bigger programs, their OL have all been in the pipeline for years and are nasty. Two of your commits perfectly encapsulate what I would look for to call underrated. TE Austin Allen. TEs can be so hard to judge on film, you can get some idea of their blocking but highlights are never going to show all the drops (obviously!). So with a lower rated 3* like Allen, what I want to see is teams in the area offering him, as they likely have seen him in person more as well as working him out in camps and stuff. He's also skinny, which doesn't matter as I'm sure your coaches have seen him finishing plays and playing mean despite his lack of weight. LB Willie Hampton. Similar to what I was saying about Allen, short of having a ton of P5 offers the next best thing is seeing two different staffs in the area (UCF and FAU) come to the conclusion that he's worth an offer. Yeah, Miami, FSU, and Florida didn't offer him, just one of those offers and the kid blows up and every ACC and likely some SEC teams go after him. But they also can't possibly offer all of the underrated talent in Florida, now you guys have a speedy LB with good size to come play in the B1G. This is the type of kid who helps beat the Iowas/Wisconsins/Michigan States. Who cares if he's not a 4*. Ultimately, it's true that you need to recruit well to win. But it's important that the staff sees guys they like in person and that they land them because it only hurts missing out on the 5*s if you don't have other options in place. Relax and trust the staff to finish out the class strong.
  10. Should be interesting. Dykes forwarded his résumé to any AD with an email address the last two years - he hated the strict admission requirements at Cal. It's why he went out and promised a starting job to a mercenary grad transfer QB despite having promising young QBs in the pipeline. He wanted out as quick as possible and knew that another disappointing season would likely leave him stuck at Cal. If they keep Spavital, I imagine most of the offense commits will stay. Recruits love him even if his OC ability is questionable at this point. Chip's name keeps popping up but he can do better than Cal, even if he has to wait a year.
  11. That seems like a sarcastic sorry. Did he get tweeted at?
  12. Believe he's choosing USC today but some guys believe he will end up ASU for Armond and Alex Perry.
  13. Really wish I could go through an OV to UCLA, because I can't understand why such highly regarded talents choose UCLA year in and year out. Girls and flashy lights yada yada but it has to be more than that. Talk about a completely underachieving team that lost every form of discipline this last year. Had near brawls with Washington State, Utah, and Colorado because all that talent doesn't like getting outworked by hungrier guys. Jim Mora should be struggling to pull in a top 35 class. Would be less offended if Holmes picks USC.
  14. Good hire, little overpaid but they likely had to with what's going on there. He's a young hotshot who recruits relate to, I'm sure he will do fine as long as he can fix the culture there currently. His recruiting rankings are a little underwhelming because of having to take a lot of projects that G5 schools have to settle for. Guys who need two+ years of S&C before they can see the field but are monsters once they do. I don't think you have anything to worry about, you guys have some good coaches and some real awesome recruiters, but I expect he will be looking to poach. January will be interesting.
  15. Not sure if it's appropriate to post in a public thread but there are eligibility issues from my understanding. Utah parted ways and that's saying something for a Utah legacy.
  16. No rooting interest, this guy seems like a tweener. Would fit Oregon's style and probably fits a 3-4 better imo. Could be excel in coverage and make plays with big NTs opening up space. Don't think it's the end of the world if y'all don't get him.
  17. Curious how y'all feel about your S&C coach(es)? Watching the game yesterday reminded me a lot of watching a pac12 game. Sure there were bad angles and guys out of place, but there seems to be an epidemic in the pac12 that marathon runners > actual weight training. Did Riley bring that philosophy with him? Some of those missed tackles looked like guys simply lacking the finishing strength that you get from good ol Olympic weight training.
