  1. Hugh Freeze would do well here, methinks. Excellent recruiter and gets the most out of his players.
  2. For some reason LSU message boards seem to think that Frost will be reaching out to Myles Brennan. Gotta admit, he's a solid QB who's had some bad breaks (both figuratively and literally). How ironic would it be if an LSU QB saved Frost's job, after the whole Burrow fiasco?
  3. I wish someone would've introduced them to me. Heck, I was banned after I predicted Nebraska would lose to Minnesota in 2014 ("We aren't going to lose to friggin Minnesota".) I was banned when I said Bo should be let go ("If you know so much, maybe you should be the coach.") I was banned when I said our recruiting class wasn't good enough ("They will coach these guys up.") I was banned when I said Patrick O'Brien was overrated coming out of HS ("He was among the best at the Elite 11 camp! He's a blue-chipper!") I was banned when I said Riley was a bad hire ("his past players all love him - he didn't have the resources at Oregon State - this is a great hire"). Heck, even last year when I said I wasn't sold on Banker yet (and I'm still not) I was ridiculed.
  4. There are quite a few intriguing prospects: Chadwell, DeBoer, Freeze, Herman, Campbell... question is, which one can recruit to Lincoln?
  5. Oh, give it a shot, absolutely. I’m just saying that there will be plenty of others taking their shots as well. Fickell is the pretty girl at the dance that all the men want, and she - err, he — can pick whoever he wants.
  6. In my opinion, if Frost is retained it would be for one reason and one reason only: none of the guys on Trev’s short list were interested.
  7. Plenty of other more tempting schools can offer just as much as we can. He can pick and choose his destination. That’s why hot-name coaches like him are unrealistic, IMO. We need a young up and comer, like Chadwell, a coordinator looking to become a HC, or a previous HC who failed at his last destination who’s looking to rebound (i.e. Herman, Freeze). I would definitely reach out to Petersen, though. Maybe he’s got the itch?
  8. For the most part our fan base is soft, too. Nebraska fans do not respond well to criticism or pessimism at all. For most of the past 15 or so years I’ve been one of the very few who voiced criticism, and most of the time, I was crucified and told to find a different team to cheer for. As of late others have started to see things differently so I’m no longer the minority.
  9. What about Tom Herman? Everybody wanted him a few years ago, and he did fairly well at Texas. Just a matter of time before a big name program snags him. Same goes for Hugh Freeze.
  10. Ironic that Frost passed on one QB (Burrow) in favor of Martinez, and now another LSU QB could bail him out… yet Frost will likely be gone.
  11. LSU QB Myles Brennan has entered the portal. Solid QB, suffered a broken bone prior to the season and was passed on the depth chart during his time gone.
  12. Kalen DeBoer (Fresno St HC) Jamey Chadwell (Coastal Carolina HC) Hugh Freeze (Liberty HC) Tom Herman (former Texas HC now with the Chicago Bears) Matt Campbell (Iowa St HC) Dave Aranda (Baylor HC) Dan Lanning (Georgia co-DC) Brent Venables (Clemson DC)
  13. Saban isn't gonna be there forever. Heck, Kiffin very well could be on their short list for next HC.
  14. We can’t offer anything that Ole Miss or LSU couldn’t match. This i what I mean when I say these guys like Kiffin and Meyer and Fickell can pick and choose. We don’t have anything to offer that they can’t find someplace else, in a place with much easier recruiting. https://www.si.com/college/arkansas/hogs-football/the-first-name-mentioned-at-the-biggest-coaching-vacancies-didnt-want-arkansas-and-might-not-be-keen-on-lsu?fbclid=IwAR1TUka9mu_8tVKcHegltSdmn7VDrLsGfnt1u7XBYmaXCAa4LF6tSd8GJEA
  15. I'm sure that's true - but that's exactly how people who don't live in Nebraska, view Nebraska.
  16. With our recruiting disadvantages, it's gonna take a lot to make a guy leave a job in the South in the middle of a reciting hotbed. Fans want the option to return? Then Chadwell is the guy.
  17. Another interesting take. Mentions Kalen Deboer (Fresno State coach) as a potential replacement. I gotta admit, that's an intriguing name: https://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/display.aspx?sp=99296946&s=2&p=99296946#99296946
  18. I wish Frost would just bite the bullet, accept a buyout, and announce that he's stepping down at the end of the season. It'd be easiest and most convenient for all involved.
  19. Kiffin, who is under contract through 2024, is set to make $4.5 million in 2021 with a retention bonus of $500,000 if he is still Ole Miss' coach on Dec. 31. He will then make $5.25 million in 2022, $5.5 million in 2023 and $5.75 million in 2024. How much would we have to offer to even get him to look at us?
  20. I used to have that same mindset. Go after a big name with a proven track record: Bob Stoops, Chris Petersen, even Kiffin. Make them say no. I just think that's exactly what they'd all do. Then again, I'm certainly no expert. Maybe Kiffin would come here. Maybe Petersen would come out of retirement if we offered enough. Who really knows? What I DON'T want to see is us settling for a lesser coach, like Riley, because no one else was interested.
  21. Anyone can bounce back, I agree... but at least it gives a more national view of the idea of Kiffin coming to Lincoln. Money talks, I know... but there are some fans here who think that's all that matters. These top-tier coaches want to be in a recruiting hotbed, where they can get guys who can compete with the LSUs and Bamas and Clemsons of the world... and Lincoln is far from that. That's why I still say our best bet is to pursue Chadwell, because he brings a unique offense that not many other big-name schools would be interested in, other than Nebraska.
