  1. From the Bob Devaney era (1962) through the Osborne years until the end of the Big 8 in 1995, either Nebraska or Oklahoma won or shared the conference title every year. That made for an epic rivalry, not just a rivalry game. While we are not currently great, the return to greatness is expected under Scott Frost. Yes, Iowa is a rival, mostly due to proximity and placement in the same conference. So I can only speak for myself, but I yearn for the days when the champion of the B1G West is decided the day after Thanksgiving in a head to head match up involving the Huskers. And if that is Wisconsin, Iowa or Northwestern, then we have the making of a great rivalry!
  2. Please, no need to be insulting. I am a long time fan who remembers the glory days, and as such I am entitled to have an opinion of my own as to what I expect from a rival.
  3. Because many fans still remember Husker football in the year 2000 and the thirty something years before it. We were not just a top team, we were the top team.
  4. Exactly right, we will have a continuous climb toward the top!
  5. Many of us believe that our rival should be a traditional top team in the conference... not the likes of Colorado or Missouri, or Iowa or Northwestern.
  6. You're probably right, but my comment comes from a person where Rutgers is the only conference stadium that is three and a half hours away.
  7. I was talking about the rivalry game, the final game of the regular season.
  8. At the time of early games, yes. But not the final poll before the bowl games. No way was Va Tech the #2 in the country, but ESPiN relentlessly promoted them. Michael Vick was a media darling.
  9. Yes, it means something then, like preseason polls mean something now. But end of season polls are a lot more accurate.
  10. AT THE TIME means nothing, it means they were overrated based on prediction rather than result. We played a tougher schedule based on final rankings, and suffered one loss. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_Nebraska_Cornhuskers_football_team
  11. If we have a rival in the current B1G, it should be Wisconsin.
  12. 10-2 record going into the CCG, top ten at that point.
  13. It was ESPiN showing Michael Vick doing a back flip into the end zone against hapless Akron (with no defenders around) approximately 15,000 times during the 1999 season that helped propel Virginia Tech to the #2 spot, despite not playing a top 25 team all season long.
  14. I agree, but they are the ones who know best. They would have voted us #1 in 1997.
  15. The best pollsters would be the Vegas oddsmakers. They know which teams are better, and should release their own poll.
  16. Thank you, that's when the real news will start!
  17. And they played a tough schedule too.
  18. It is much easier to make a tremendous turn around like UCF and TCU did, if you play a softer schedule. But if you play in a major conference, that gets much more difficult.
  19. First choice has to be Oklahoma. Second Choice would be to steal an ACC school such as Syracuse, UConn or Boston College. Third choice would be Kansas. Fourth choice would be BYU. Not in a million years any Texas school.
