I remember the calling for his head thing, and the Colorado thing, with T.O. It's one of those retrospect things that seems strange and silly now, and a lot of other things. He needed time. Are we favorably comparing Scott Frost to Tom Osborne? I'm not. Tom was not limited in his abilities, while Scott seems to be. Two vastly different men. Two vastly different minds. We are not short siting Frost when we see his limitations, as some were back in the 70s about Dr. Tom.

That's because I'm responding to real posts, rather than snarky, childishness.

Riley had his share of one point LOSSES. Call me old fashioned, but I like wins. No matter the score. Just as much as Iowa fans liked the three point WINS over Nebraska.

At an older Quick Stop gas station/convenience place on South Street in Lincoln (and two shops in Omaha) the response was to ignore the sign (in different words). One lady said it was "about insurance." The guy running the place in Omaha said "thanks for having my back, I'll take it down after talking to other employees."

I part company with the NRA and it's strange interpretation of the 2nd amendment. I think that the majority of gun owners are fine with it. But that may be another thread. I'm posting an honest query about people's thoughts about the Nebraska concealed carry restrictions.

Now that's just weird.

I don't feel any more "uncomfortable" about not having a gun on me than I would feel not having a fire extinguisher in the house, car, and garage; it's about the very rare possibility of an emergency. Usually, at this point, the discussion turns to various irresponsible gun carriers and the statistics they cause. I'm asking gun owners/carriers how they feel about the forbidden places. Some states are whittling their lists down, lately to allow for carry in churches and by trained staff in schools.

Speculating on the future of Scott Frost and Moos's faith in him has to turn into a conversation about more than one thing: - How far the Husker football program has declined; pretty much down to irrelevancy from a once dominant, perennially competitive team. That could have happened for only a few years, or for only one or two class cycles.. but: - For how long the Husker football program has declined; some cite all the way back to T.O.'s retirement. Some to Solich's or even Pelini's departure. But pretty much steadily down from either of those road marks in Husker history. - The teams declining stats from season one of Frost's tenure to this past season: O, D, and Special Teams. - Whether or not a perception comes along in the minds of The Deciders that Scott Frost is up against something he can't handle, and that has to be defined as to his abilities/lack thereof in a major conference, the Big Ten in particular, of course. It takes a lot to dislodge faith in anything, and if those Deciders are still in the midst of faith in Scott Frost, then how many losses over how many years will it take to replace that faith with the horrid realization that $35 million can't buy Husker success at all, let alone the afore mentioned perennial success of the 30 year Husker Golden Era? My answer to all of that is that I'm trying to let Moos's good words about the Husker football future displace a lingering feeling that our popular Golden Boy is not up to it. Recruiting gets mentioned a lot, and of course it takes many cycles of good, solid recruiting (including walkons here at Nebraska) and a great coach who knows how to run them to create a monster program. That's Moos's spiel. I don't think it's going to happen with this guy Frost.

Nebraska allows for concealed carry, with a permit that is issued by the Nebraska State Patrol after a fee and FBI background check are satisfied, and also after the applicant can prove he or she has undergone a firearm training session by a NSP certified instructor. Many (most) other states have such provisions in place by law. I've been carrying for decades, and have lived in several states along the way. To me it's just a part of getting dressed. I've never been in law enforcement, but a gun has always been with me and I've always been very mindful of local laws and of course safety and common sense. For example, here in Nebraska it is stated clearly that sporting events (and a lot of other places) are forbidden for concealed carry; no guns allowed. So, I don't carry in those places. It's a fairly long list, including churches, schools, political gatherings, government buildings including post offices, etc. I obey all restrictions, including if I see a "no guns allowed" sign on a retail door; I'll return to my car and unload and place the weapon in a special lockable vault I have cabled to the frame of the vehicle, then go into the place and ask for the manager. I then inform the manager that I am law abiding and am unarmed, unlike criminals who will see their sign on the door as assurance that no body in there is capable of defending the place. I've gotten varied reactions to this; but mostly it's "that's company policy, I can't do anything about it." How do you feel about those restrictions? Some want that list pared down or even eliminated.

That would be the hope. But, I think not as fully as we'd like to think. Wrt Moos, the saying, "Methinks he doth protest too much" says something here, I think. He overdoes it on accolades for "the future," etc.

lmao at "proclaiming." Suggesting feels more like what I'm thinking. Pretty close to believing he will never have an undefeated season in the Big 10.. yeah. I just think he's real good in places like UCF or maybe he could follow Solich at Ohio and do pretty well.

Except for the "..(Frost) will develop," I am in agreement with the rest of that post. As to the "I don’t know what moos said that leads you to believe he’s moved the goal posts long term" it's just my take on the man's words. I mentioned somewhere else that lately (after all these losses, many which really honestly should/could have been wins) I get the feeling that Moos is very nervous about the way things are transpiring and that he's PR managing that nervousness with grandiose remarks about the future.. I sometimes feel he's basically talking to the people who pay him, along with us, of course.

In the AAC. Too bad it wasn't in the ACC. Or SEC. Or even the Big 12. Not gonna happen in the Big 10, which I'd love to be wrong about.

Our current AD, the same man who is supporting Frost big time and over the long haul, also feels that Solich was part of a three man legacy that should have continued ad infinitum. I find it hard to see Moos's expressed thoughts as iron clad wisdom. He does have me feeling a bit differently now about just what Frost is challenged with and what he wants to accomplish, but that feeling is also laced with another feeling: that Scott Frost is limited and he was fine in assistant jobs and a HC job in a cushy conference.

Counting teams in last year's March Madness brackets... Just kidding!

Gotcha. Sounds like a formidable set up. It compresses things a bit for so many teams in the picture, and that's a good thing. It also allows for major bowl game interest. It'd take some lobbying by people who can make a revenue presentation tied in with watchability and all that. I admit to liking the top ten thing because it could add even more energy by the schools to get in the top ten being seen as "get in the playoffs." I'm wondering if your schema could be reworked for ten teams (five first games) without adding weeks to the playoffs.

Well thought out. But I'm trying to wrap my mind around: "The four teams that lose in the quarter finals will be matched up in two pre-determined New Year's Six bowl games (rotating)." Losing in the quarters exits them from the playoffs, right? Or am I misreading it as qualifying them for a game down the road against another quarter loser for another chance at a winner?

I've always thought that the top ten in the AP poll should be in a playoff schema that would end with the championship being played in January at the Orange or Cotton or Rose, etc. Way before this whole playoff thing came along I have felt that a playoff was necessary. They've been doing it in the other tier now for a while; seems to be working at that level.

So those of us who are at all the home games and some of the road games are contributing to the trend? Inquiring minds need to know.

I admit to just now coming around to seeing it this way ("it" being hiring new coaches to "right the ship" practically instantly). The "program rebuilding" thing that Moos harps on is taking over my sensibilities gradually. We all want wins.. every game we want that win. But what Nebraska is wanting most of all is something in addition to that. Something we were used to and have the resources to reclaim: Husker football being Husker football, and all the meaning that entails. That will take time.

And "saved the sellout streak," as he said. But, interestingly, in a prolonged interview he kept going back to the time needed and the emphasis on "building the program," which he explained is much different than what the new coach at Ohio State (for example) had to do because that football program had not been wrecked by bad hires after the legacy coaches (in our case Bob, Tom, and yes, Frank) left. Amazing point. So.. Moos's ride into the sunset, no matter his age at the time, might be seen as regretful by Husker fans, if he's right about all this.

Yep. Recruits respond to team mission, not much to team stated mission. They feel it and they're together.. very few words.. lots of fire.

Moos is with him and saying "..three, four, or five seasons of recruiting should get the program back to where it should be," etc. Sometimes he sounds to me like he's talking to his boss, the one who signs his paychecks.
