  1. Do I really have to, is the on field production really in question for the players mentioned.
  2. Not sure as well, however it happens somewhat often as indicated by several examples
  3. Cool, yes pernell Jefferson is one, a very Anderson, diashon Neal another. I guarantee can find others with a quick roster search, certainly on the oline. It was actually worse with other coaches. It’s really not that subjective, stat sheets are pretty easy to look up. I get that guys contribute in other ways. If your not in the 3/4 deep as a jr/sr, specifically a RS, you’d have to prove a new body couldn’t do the same or better.
  4. This is all I’m saying. I know many don’t like it but don’t understand why it’s seen as controversial at all. I don’t want to use a scholarship for a 4/5 yr locker room cheerleader or court jester. Btw, while somebody mentioned PJ first, he’s but one example of many that could use a nudge in a different direction. Had some 5th yr guys this year that would fit that criteria too.
  5. “Non contributors” is pretty clear. You think the guys you mentioned fit that definition.
  6. Cool, great kid I’m sure, somebody I’d be happy for my kids to be friends with. How many tackles has he had in three yrs. I thought they were here to play football, what was I thinking?
  7. Did I say that, I believe I was pretty specific on “non contributors”. Reading comprehension is key, don’t you think.
  8. 3 yrs, hasn’t seen the field in any measurable amount. Pulling up career stats, even starts is easy. And btw these kids did get their degree I think we lived up to more than our share of the deal. And yes I’d like more aggressive mgmt than we’ve had. I won’t name anyone specifically, but if you have a 4/5 yr kid that hasn’t played any significant time or contributed on any stat line yes I believe we should help them move on. That doesn’t mean cut them loose and say good luck, it means helping them find another opportunity with another school to transfer to with scholarship.
  9. I’d RS him next yr with clear path to rejoin the following yr. he’d have to stay clean, like I’d watch the kid pee in a cup. Support his teammates by being scout team/good leader, attend all classes/good grades, make amends with the team, absolutely no legal trouble at all. If he did all this for a yr and the team accepted him back fully, I’d let him know he’d have the opportunity to compete for time but that playing time would have to be earned not guaranteed. His choice to walk or not and accept those terms
  10. I saw there are several jrs graduating today, some of which have given very little to earn their scholarship. My question is can we start moving these guys along and create more space for contributors or new blood. Hell give it to a walkon that contributed. We need to start helping these guys to better situations away from Nebraska and open up more scholarships yr over yr.
  11. Based on what exactly, cuz he wasn’t all that great here.....riding the coat tails of some much better than him possibly. Keep this in mind though...beck has had playcalling responsibilities taken away at both osu and tx, both mid yr. beck is a below average OC making him fit in perfectly into blo’s coaching circus group
  12. I know they were pretty high on the piper kid from Norfolk. He also played in a few games this yr
  13. It does but to compete for championships we need to continually recruit top 15-20 classes. A robust walkon program that provides depth, competition, culture, and maybe 2-4, 3rd-5th year contributors or starters each yr. with success you start to sneak in the top ten here and there. The walkon program, if executed at a high level, could be a key advantage, for just a little boost. We can compete over time with top 10-15 classes, walkon pgm, and occasionally sneak in top ten. 5* recruits are tough....only 28 this year, so it’s not like they are choosing not to come here by the 100’s. I mentioned earlier it’s not like we are far off either....Corcoran was rated 38 overall this yr.
  14. Wut....not sure if serious. While there weren’t recruiting “rankings” they did have a system of evaluating talent. I would guess relationships and pipeline schools gave some early access to certain programs. Now because of these rankings it does level the playing field a bit. However, the idea that Nebraska’s glory days was 18-20 walkons from IA and NE with 2-3 guys that could run from FL or CA is laughable. Some of best classes, had rankings been around, were the classes for our run through the 90’s.
  15. It’s not so much one class but a string of classes to account for attrition and misses in recruiting. Does development matter yes, but recruiting matters more....60/40 maybe even 70/30. If I recall correctly all four teams in the playoff this year have finished recruiting rankings inside the top ten with 3 I believe inside the top 5. Yes, recruiting matters. And to to add a bit more to this... that’s why I’m so excited about the walkon pgm frost has going. He’s getting kids that with development will make you question the rating but hey are the exception not the rule and should be applauded. The difference between no and frost is bo offered these kids scholarships Frost is getting them to walkon.
  16. Dude slow down what I meant is many of them from the freshman class that yr aren’t even here still. I didn’t this time, or any other time, bag on freshman that need time to develop. Sorry I triggered you.
  17. I think it’s also important to point out the overwhelming majority of those players came in yr 1...as in like 3 months to recruit a team and fill gaps you know you have walking in. I’ve stated before that they missed not only on jucos that yr but incoming frosh as well. Each yr that miss rate should be less and less.
  18. Not sure but fwiw, if I remember right analysts were saying there were only 28 five stars this cycle, Corcoran was rated 38th overall I believe so it’s not like we aren’t even close. Betts as well was a 6.0 4*. One more upgrade and they are both 5* recruits.
  19. Remember that one coach we had, I think he coaches a big Hs in Ohio now.....always made excuses, said nobody wanted to come here, etc.....ended up he was just lazy and a horrible recruiter.
  20. I’ll just correct one piece here because people think bo was such an amazing coach. His NFL placements had declined yr over yr. i think it was Riley’s first yr and Gerry was the lone draft pick in that class. The yr before I thin Ameer was the lone draft pick. Bo did not do a “decent” job of getting talent in the nfl. Off Callahan’s recruits is another story.
  21. Frost recruits towards fit and skill. Riley chased stars without regard to fit in system. Bo reached on way to many, was lazy which lead to 10-15 guys each cycle with questionable character or skill. If you look at bos or MR classes kids that ended up making it here for camp turned most classes to 25-40 rated classes.
  22. I’ve been clear that frost and co have room to grow. Keep in mind this was his 4th yr as a head coach, this is what we signed up for and not sure why anyone would expect any different. Success was always going to be achieved here by allowing SF enough rope, time and support to fix the last 20 yrs and develop the team and himself as a play caller and coach. I’m really not sure why anyone thought any different. Did he get out coached at times, sure. Did our lack of talent and depth also cost us those same games, absolutely. Contrary to the belief of some two things can be true at the same time. I know this for a fact. SF cares more than you, me, and likely many others in that building and will do what it takes toge5 back on track. He’s the first coach since Solich I can say that about with any honesty.
  23. I heard this about betts and now see aho. Won’t be signing tomorrow, both have said they are solid not taking visits..... I know betts had mentioned he needed to get some work in the classroom. By signing now do they limit options if they don’t make it academically or are there other reasons they aren’t signing?
  24. And you know why he expected better because he a winner. He won’t be satisfied with 9 wins and a whale trophy. He came he to swing for the fences. First he needs to get enough players on the team to play the game.
