  1. That's why I brought it up as a thought experiment. A scenario would like that would present the majority with the majority of avenues and options to do things the way they'd like, while also preserving at least one viable lane for trans women to be able to compete at a high level. And to be clear, the majority would not be seeking life elsewhere; the overwhelming majority in the form of all D1 swimmers in the nation would have already been elsewhere.
  2. Curious about this because it could go both ways. Let's say, in the case of Lia and NCAA swimming, starting next year all conferences publish their rules on transgender women competing in women's leagues. The Ivy League allows it, along with 1 or 2 other conferences, and the rest of the conferences only allow female-at-birth women to compete. The NCAA also gives a free transfer exemption to anyone on a team in a conference that allows it. Does that solve the issue of allowing trans women to compete in a women's league and also maintain an opportunity for fairness and integrity for the majority of women? Any that don't want to compete against her can "go out of their way to achieve it", and then nothing changes for the ones that don't mind.
  3. Again, I asked this question not in the context of athletics, and with that still in mind - they don't identify as men. They very specifically identify as women, ask to be perceived as women, and live their life operating as women. So the "but if they are men..." part of your post is really what I'm asking - you think at the end of the day trans women are just men pretending to be women? It's more odd that that's where you think I land: I know in my head I definitely default to a 'well, tough luck' problem solving solution in regards to the topic. But I also think trans people unduly suffer more than enough in our culture and so I'm actually very interested in and eager to hear good arguments from the other side. The logistical details don't seem to be in their favor, and the "has the world lost it's mind this is common sense!!!" and "trans women are women and it's bigoted to deny them anything!!!" emotional hot takes are equally as exhausting and boring. Creating trans-exclusive leagues is a theoretical option on paper, but doesn't seem to be a feasible one in reality, especially in regards to team sports due to a lot of factors. Maybe one radical idea would be to eliminate gender entirely and just have leagues based off of skill alone.
  4. What's he saying "well, no" to?
  5. So the quote from Biden himself says "a large contributor", which doesn't imply a percentage, then talks about that one factor. Then the abc tweet says "Biden blames high inflation rates in part on Russian sanctions" Then Steven claims no this is wrong, but then acknowledges that there is a small Russia effect. Sounds like he's actually agreeing
  6. I think the rare cases of a trans woman dominating her sport probably already is the extrapolation to the excess, at least in terms of usefulness to talk about within the realm of possibility.
  7. Unrelated to the topic of athletic competition, is this how you sum up trans people? Pretending to be women?
  8. Good article. Also especially good to be reminded of just how slippery this slope really is (which is, pretty much a dry flat surface):
  9. Because women can't compete physically with the men at the top end of the bellcurve. Obviously.
  10. I mean, not really. That's maybe an ideal, but it very obviously doesn't actually exist. Unless you think your gender is one of the primary foundations of equal footing in competition.
  11. Yes you can lol. Try getting into college without a plethora of vaccines. Maybe you're right in regards to trans women. I don't know the answer and I even lean on the side of it not being fair for them to compete in women's leagues past a certain competitive level. But it's hard to approach the conversation seriously when you legitimize an absurd "what if a bunch of dudes say they're girls and then wanna go play volleyball?" imaginary question.
  12. I don't know. What if they did? It's no worse of an issue than this one, and it's not like swimming is a trans athlete gateway drug. Just don't understand how that's a slope - the opportunity is already there. I mean, the first thing you do is understand that the NCAA requires athletes switching gender categories to go through a year of hormone replacement therapy before they can compete. Maybe the next thing you do is start by figuring out how to differentiate between trans women and hypothetical imaginary men in wigs tucking their junk in playing Juwanna Mann. There's a good and tough conversation to be had about one.
  13. Just because someone says something isn't part of the Democrat Utopia doesn't mean that they're implying it's part of the Republican one. The world isn't a binary defined by the two major american political parties lol.
  14. I think he actually voted to impeach someone in 2018 for engaging in an illegal quid pro quo. I agree it's not a fair competition, but how do you exactly solve the problem? Lebron James has an advantage over me and all other men based off of his physical make-up he was genetically born with and that's also not a fair competition. We're the same sex and gender so there's no inherent problem the same as there is for trans people, but it's messy business trying to find a way to codify a rule for this specific problem in a way that is fair and equitable.
  15. The circumstances of an actual hostile armed invasion do tend to have the effect of people changing strategy.
  16. What the f#&% are they even trying to say here? Especially the host, claiming you're not allowed to express any reservation of launching into a land war in Asia? Did I miss the deep state democrat state media narrative that they want to put boots on the ground?
  17. Hard to know for sure, but I think the strategy is different when you're in the middle of a major urban center with lots of other interests. The Austin metro population is more than our entire state, and there are plenty of people interested in things other than UT sports (although I'm sure there are still plenty of fans, just the percentage is dilluted). Would make more sense in that way to focus on deals that help your program win moreso than deals that are gonna make for good advertisements for your BBQ place when tons of folks don't know who the spokesperson is.
  18. If I was a company looking to gift/pay players, an apartment would be the last thing I'd offer. They already have room and board paid for, and if they live off campus they just get a check cut for the room & board amount (which is almost always significantly more than they'll pay in rent with some roommates off campus)
  19. This could work for 99% of responses in 'conversation' with archy without all the rest of the stuff.
  20. Whatever's said on a Nebraska football messageboard has no bearing on helping or hurting the situation. Plenty of people just aren't experts or even laymen when it comes to good 21st century foreign policy strategy and geopolitics to know if what we are doing is good, bad, enough, dangerous, foolish, etc. There's always more you can do, and the line of how much and what type of 'more' that leads to nuclear winter isn't abundantly clear, so it's a natural thought process for anyone.
  21. Tombstone used to be my favorite but now it's a nice change-of-pace option. The best is definitely Red Baron brick oven crust style. There's also some new detroit-style types I've seen at wal-mart that are really good and will really fill you up.
  22. This was already disproven twice before you posted, and once more (now twice) after you've said it, so let's leave that point dead shall we? Was there anything going on in the world during Obama's early tenure as President that might be related to lack of funding? Like a global economy crash or anything?
  23. I'm not a fan of russian invaders but I am at odds with "Silicon Valley" on how inconsistent they are while masquerading as a neutral arbiter of acceptable and unacceptable language. Also there's 3 billion people on Facebook. Sure, less than half the world is probably rational but that would presume that only the non-rational half of the entire globe are the ones with Facebook accounts, which obviously aren't true.
