  1. Yeah and that worked out well, the best QB in the Big 12 during his time in school and never even made a conference championship game. Pinkel at Mizzou = Never worrying about the Tiger's game plan being too much for us to handle. - expecially now that Billy C is gone. pinkle has done some stupid things....but you cant argue with the team he put on the field this year. he deserves some credit for that. He does deserve credit. I wonder how much of their success this year is due to his coaching vs. Daniel though. Imo, it's a mistake for Gabbert to go to Mizzou becuase he is very raw from what i understand. He'll need a lot of development and i'm less than confident in Pinkel's ability to coach up a QB.
  2. Who do you see committing in their place?
  3. i thought you can't give out more than 25 in a given a year? Wouldn't some either have to be spring enrollees (which count for this class) or grey shirts (next year)?
  4. Northern California does get cold in the winter - you won't find many people on the beaches without wet suits. The southern part is where it stays nicer (but will still get cold). Not much snow though, if any. San Fransisco gets a lot of fog though. Don't know if this makes it's way to Berkley.
  5. the fact that they've gotten these kids ear is enough for me. I'm encouraged to see what this staff could do with an entire year to build relationships, rather than having to come in with a month to go and try to beat out someone who the kids have been speaking with for 10 months.
  6. Never know. I prefer to live in a place where it snows, and i'm from California.
  7. Both these kids strike me as good the sort of players we'd be trying to get to walk on.
  8. i don't see scheduling a PC is because of and only because of a big ego. Being a top prospect in NE, he probably gets asked a lot of questions about it. Announcing like this will hopefully put a stop to everyone asking him where is planning on going. 'course, if he doesn't pick NE every will just ask him why he's going somewhere else... but i see some non ego related reasoning to it.
  9. Maybe it's just me, but i get a bad feeling. All the positive comments seem to be coming from Mom's mouth. Makes me thing she really likes us. The situation is absolutely perfect if Will liked NU... since he hasn't announced it makes me think he doesn't.
  10. I never did because no one keeps their word anymore. Signing day just needs to get here. I think it's less about keeping their word and more about committing and then the university fires the coach you committed to play for. Nebraska changed the ground rules. Not too many kids de-commit when the coaching staff remains stable. And these de-commits start to have a snowball effect.... Compton was pals with Gabbert and Jonas Gray, and they left. I expect Compton to stay at home in Missouri. If not, Champaign/Urbana isn't too far from his home. (Mizzou also got a committment today from Wes Kemp - WR from St. Louis who had previously committed to Wisconsin and a teammate, Munir Prince - RB/CB who's transferring from Notre Dame to Mizzou and will play the 2009 season. Good day for Mizzou football.) Here's my problem with Gabbert. He commits to us and then calls all of these recruits and gets them interested in NU right. Then he goes and decommits from NU after all these other guys have commited and then proceeds to call them and try and lure them away from NU. That ruined his rep with me. I really do not understand this... you're ok if he recruits for you, but it ruins his character if he does it for someone else? Dude just wants other good players around him. You don't understand?? He recruits people to go to a school then when he wants to leave cause HE is unhappy, then he wants to get everyone to follow. Imo, he's fine to recruit people all he wants. But what you are saying is an excellent reason why no one should pay much attention to him. If it was me and Gabbert tried to sell me on some other school, my first thought would be "well, you were 100% sold on Bill Callahan being a great coach and we saw how that worked out this year". Tell him, "Your cool to do what you want Blaine, but i think i'm gonna do things more for 'me' than for 'we' this time..."
  11. he dropped alittle on his star rating, and on the pay side at scout someone asked if that happened could it be because of grades? and a mods answer was yes it could. that is why i said that that it MIGHT be an issue. just because you have a 3.1GPA doesnt mean that the student has the required GPA in the Core Classes. An A in Wood Working, an A in Automotives and a D in Biology adds up to a 3.0, but the D might show some problems passing the ACT or SAT the above is just an example, and not taken from his transcripts Cool. thanks.
  12. In Gundy's defense, this kid was also committed to ISU which didn't work out for some reason. I'm not sure we are getting the whole story with this one.
  13. Keller and Nicks. Probably Lucky if he comes out. Maybe Purify.
  14. In the first encounter, i didn't think MU played all that well but was still very competitive. This led to think they would actually win the rematch on a neutral field. In hindsight, i think you'd also have to say that OU could've played a lot better in that first game as well though. Watching that game, i really didn't think MU played worse than they did the first time. OU just played to their potential. Imo, wasn't so much a case of MU falling flat; it was more a case of OU raising their game.
  15. i heard something that Oregon spends the most per recruit than any team in the Pac 10. Something like $7000 per kid. Don't know if that's true or not. Seems like something the NCAA would monitor. Thing that gives me hope is that the others were west coast kids and Nebraska was trying to lure them to the mid west. James is from big 12 country, so hopefully it works in our favor this time.
  16. Sounds like he is pretty high on NU at the moment and says we are currently his leader. He's taking an official to Oregon this weekend. Rob, why do you say academics might be an issue?
  17. Wasn't Tebow quite a bit bigger though? I tend to agree, that for a kid that is 6'2" 200lbs, i'd think he'd be a little faster as a dual threat.
  18. Rumor going around that Renfree's dad is pissed at Watson. Supposedly Watson called up Renfree after Spano's committ and left a vm saying that Renfree might want to schedule a visit somewhere else.
  19. Crabtree apparently has good things to say about Robinson. Said something to the effect that if he hasn't seen a better interior O lineman out there.
  20. i hear grades are a concern, possibly because of his situation moving from LA. But if you don't qualify, you don't qualify.
  21. UNLV? Did OSU and Wisconsin stop recruiting him too?
  22. I thought Rippy and Byrd cancelled their visits when the committed to CU?
  23. Well, if recruiting does mean anything, then we vastly under performed this past season. Makes it kinda hard to argue that we're screwed because of our recruiting this year. Maybe i fell into a carbon freezing chamber hidden in my office and have been in hibernation for several years, but the last thing i remember was both NU and CU sucking pretty good this past year. Hopefully both are back on the right track and will be improved next year, but each certainly has a long way to go.
  24. Well, he came to NU, said it was the greatest thing he'd ever seen in his life and couldn't wait to play here. Said he didn't care about the coaching (who wouldn't care????) Then he scedules a visit to Oregon St., says it's the greatest thing he's ever seen and can't wait to play there. Could be this kid doesn't know what he wants and blows with the wind. I kinda hope he takes another visit somewhere, just to see what happens.
