  1. There's an article up some where in which Smith says he spoke with Bo earlier this week. When asked about taking visits he said "probably Nebraska" as well as 'Bama and LSU. Other than that he doesn't know.
  2. eh. I see ESPN's point: a program like NU shouldn't have to be looking at unproven coaches. At the least we should be hiring successful mid major coaches, as CU and Florida did, if not cherrypicking a guy from a low level BCS school, like Michigan. However, in our case i'm afraid the fan base wouldn't have been receptive enough to such a coach. Call it stubborness or imaturity, but right now the only person that would go over is someone with past ties to NU. Bo was a good hire for us given the timing, but in general i think we'd be critical of any top program that hires a guy with no HC experience. Hopefully Bo succeeds, but if he doesn't at least the fans will see that the return to Nebraska roots isn't the guarantee of success some think it to be. At that point, we should be ready to move forward in the more traditional sense with an "outsider".
  3. No. Pelini made it a point to visit each of these recruits. He was trying to recruit the same guys. Watson is remaing because they want to keep the offense relatively intact.
  4. i could buy the relationship with the previous coach as the reason. But why didn't they leave as soon as they found out those coaches wouldn't be back? Instead, they waited to meet Bo and then they left.
  5. Sorry, didn't know that was paid content. I don't have a subscription anywhere, so i'm not sure how i even got if it was... Anyway, in the article Williams is quoted as saying his choices are between three teams, none of which are named NU (CU, MU and KU i think.)
  6. Coaching was obviously not there, talent likely was. I may be in the minority, but if these kids were more committed to Calllllllahan and his staff then they were to the University of Nebraska, I say "See ya!!!!!!" The last thing we need is a bunch of heartless, gutless, soft Calllllllahan recruits to be in the top 10 per Rivals recruiting rankings, but are in the bottom half of the rankings for all of Division 1. If that's why they were only interested in coming, sure. But, BC was long gone and the recruits stayed put till a new HC was named and he came to speak with them. It was only after they met with Pelini that the exodus began. This makes me think it has more to do with Bo scaring them away than with them beind loyal to BC.
  7. I've heard Compton is between Missouri and Illinois. Interesting. Something is chasing these kids away from NU.
  8. i fail to understand why OU can get kids that are both talented and are proud to play to come to Oklahoma, but it is impossible to get these sorts of players to come to Nebraska. Pretty sure this is exactly what TO did during his time. This notion that the only kids that will play hard for us are the ones that are turned down by every program is poisonous. Believing it in is selling ourselves short, imo. If they can be talked into going to Norman, OK then i have to believe they can be talked into going to Lincoln, NE.
  9. The response after BC seems to be that since he valued recruiting and failed, recruiting must not be that important. That's just not true. If it didn't matter, why do all the top schools aggresively recruit these top players? Talent matters, recruiting matter. The key for our next coach to be successful is not to ignore recruiting. It's to keep recruiting at a high level but also be able to coach at a high level. The second part was what was missing from BC and undermined his teams. We learned a hard lesson about the importance of coaching with BC. Hopefully we don't have to learn another lesson the hard way.

  11. i wouldn't think this is about the staff not liking these recruits. If Bo didn't care, why make such a big effort to go and talk to all these guys the past couple weeks? It seems more like the staff wants these kids, but the kids are turned off by something they see in the staff.
  12. I don't get all these stupid "I don't want him here if he doesn't want to play for Nebraska" arguments. If Robinson comes here, he'll play hard. If he isn't a Nebraska kid at at heart, he won't come here. I want him here if he's good, period. callahan never got it either. i must be dumb too. Taking 0-2 star players that no one else is interested in just because they are from Nebraska doesn't sound like a recipe for success to me.
  13. Interesting. Rippy goes to CU, switches from NU to CU. Givens goes to CU, eliminates NU. Williams goes to CU, eliminates NU... Wonder what is being said over in Boulder...
  14. Wether they sign or not, at least he's proven that he and his staff will take recruiting very seriously. After TO talked about the walkon program for a month, then Kreikelmeir (sp) got an offer out of nowhere seemingly because his father was a walkon - i was more than a little concerned. The way Bo and his staff have been agressive on the recruiting trail make me feel a lot better about the future.
  15. If he were doing it for attention, i'd think he'd be eating it up every chance he got. Instead he seems to shy away from the cameras and reporters.
  16. Peaked too early maybe. It happens to good teams sometimes.
  17. His measureables appear very similar to Josh Williams. I understand that 40 times aren't all created equal, and just because their numbers are the same doesn't mean they are the same class of player. My point is that it doesn't make sense to me why a 4.8 forty is ok in Josh's case but has to be a bad thing in Micah's.
  18. If you don't want Bo, why do you care so much what we think of him? Not blitzing on 4th and 12 does sound like a mistake, in hind sight. However, i don't know much about the how the game went up to that point. If LSU had been blitzing a lot or had been getting good pressure from their D line, i could understand the decision not to go for it. Even if it was a bad call, so what. It's one call, and every coach makes a bad call once in a while. I'm fine with giving him criticism for not blitzing on 4th and 12. But at the same time, isn't the guy at least somewhat responsible for the preceeding 3 downs that apparently went well to put Arky in a bad position. Or how about his D winning the game against Tenn? Seesh. The man's defense got you into the NC game. I find it hard to believe there's not a lot more good than bad about his coaching.
  19. Yea.... lousy numbers.... don't know why we even recruited him. Brad Smith: Holds the NCAA Div. I-A career rushing record for QBs, with 4,289 yards, and became the first NCAA Div. I-A QB to throw for 8,000 yards and rush for 4,000 yards in a career. Currently playing for the NY Jets. One of the most exciting players in college football who ended his brilliant Tiger career by leading MU to a thrilling 38-31 win over South Carolina in the 2005 Independence Bowl ... He led Mizzou to the win, despite the fact that the Tigers trailed 21-0 in the first quarter, and 28-7 midway through the second quarter ... The rally from a 21-point deficit marked the single largest come-from-behind win in Missouri history, as well as Independence Bowl history ... Ended the day with 432 yards of total offense, including 282 yards passing (1 TD) and 150 yards rushing (3 TDs) ... Completed 21-of-37 passes on the day, and added his 3 rushing scores all in the second half as MU rallied for the big win I never said anything about numbers... on purpose. You're the first Tiger fan i've heard that will give Smith his props. He had some very good games. He also had some very bad ones, which seems to be all the other fans i've heard from want to focus on. The truth was he was very inconsistent and struggled in the passing game most of his career, even though he did have some very good games and single handedly carried the offense at times. He also does not appear to have been well prepared for the NFL. For a guy that had all the measureables of Vince Young, i think you'd have to agree that his career was a little disappointing.
  20. I feel similarly. Everything i've heard says that he has talent but he will be a project for any team that signs him. With that in mind, i wonder about him going to Mizzou. Pinkel had a very talented but raw player in Brad Smith (arguably more so than Daniel) and couldn't do much with him. Daniel is doing well, but he's been running their offense since he was in hs, so not much development needed. I think Gabbert would've been better off revisiting Alabama vs Mizzou.
  21. No, that is more complete than what i saw. Thanks
  22. I don't get what you mean by that but I think you are wrong, there are restrictions everyone from the university, boosters, coaches, or just regular fans see http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16811 again I don't quite understand but by NCAA rules Osborne according from the coach himself said he cannot call the recuirts, they have to call him. By "representative" i meant employee. Certainly boosters aren't permited to contact recruits. I saw the specific rule(s) about contact with recruits somewhere. It may have been incomplete or wrong and i may be wrong about this in turn, but from what i remember any employee of the university is permitted to contact the recruit.
  23. From what i understand, the rule doesn't restrict contact to coaches. Any representative of the university may contact the kid.
  24. Seems also that his defenses are still troubled by mobile quarterbacks. Is there a defense that isn't?
  25. I'm never too sold on any one recruit. There's so much uncertainty that you can almost never say that a kid will or will not be successful. For that reason, while i would like to have him, i'm not too broken up about lossing him. What really hurts is lossing him, Compton, Gray, the O line, etc. Espcially the O line and LBs since we need people at those positions in the coming years.
