  1. judging by his favorites, i think he wants to play somewhere he is going to catch the ball a lot.
  2. He wouldn’t count toward the class until he actually signs, correct? If it doesn’t effect us in the meantime, why not work on this kid now? The way I see it this it is like getting a jump on the ’11 class.
  3. I thought Devine went to WVU because that was about the only place he could qualify?
  4. Weren't the announcers saying during the game that Louisville coaches kicked or asked a bunch of players to leave the program? It's not the same team as Petrino handed them.
  5. Don't think we are getting the full story. Be quite the coincidence if both NU and KU backed off at the same time and all of a sudden. On the other hand, Vandy is a very good school. If academics were the issue, then it would make sense. But this is a 180 from the way things looked for the last few weeks. Don't know about the TE thing either. Kerr visited the same time as Brown. Sure seemed like the coaches were prepared to accept both at that point. strange
  6. Not to question your sister's experience, but I have to think NU has tutoring for the average student. I went to school at a small university in the Big Sky and we had student tutoring in just about every subject. Be rather odd if NU, or any large university, didn't offer some sort of student assistance like this.
  7. Since we haven't heard about him for a couple months, i'm guessing we are out of it.
  8. Apples to Oranges imo. Sherman is a former NFL head coach. He's got a hook to sell recruits on, especially the offensive ones, about getting them into the NFL. Pelini has no such story, and it's understandable that recruits might be wary until this staff proves something on the field. Sherman's recruiting might pay off, like with Carroll. On the other hand BC proved it doesn't guarantee success. And program like MU have built themselves up pretty well without getting a ton of highly rated recruits. I think there are many ways to succeed and fail.
  9. Madcat- I know coaching is a reason why the same teams are always in the top 15-20. But those coaches can't do anything without top flight recruits. Any coach will say that getting top recruits to come in is #1 when it comes to winning. Kansas has arguably one of the best coaches in CFB and they will never be a great program unless they can recruit. Same goes for Texas Tech. They get all the guys Texas, A&M, OU, OSU and LSU don't want. Most of the guys tech gets don't even recieve offers from those schools I mentioned. Did KU and MU suddenly get those top athletes just prior to last season? I think they had quality players all along, but one’s that needed time to develop them. Sure there are some that can step in and play right away, but I think most need to be made. And the size of this category is quite large. 4 and 5* players are just better players, period. More size, more speed. I think Dr. Tom was a great coach but I even he would tell you the reason NU was so successful for so many years was because he had HUGE OLman and incredible RB's and QB's. If that were the case, wouldn’t you expect to see a ton of those 4 and 5* athletes on all conference lists, winning awards and going to the NFL? But consider the all big 12 preseason list: Crabtree = 4 Maclin = 4 Murray = 4 English = 3 Weatherspoon = 2 Pawelek = 2 Wall = 3 Lake = 2 Coffman = 3 Robinson = 4 Loadholt = 3 Cooper = 3 Vasquez = 3 Brown = UR Dockery = 4 Daniel = 3 Lucky = 5 Wolfert = UR Campbell = UR Hypolite = 3 Orakpo = 4 Mortensen = 2 Harris = 4 Moore = 3 Brantly = 2 There are instances like this all over, which indicates there is a lot more than raw athleticism when it comes to being a good player. I don’t challenge the notion that coaches need good players. Rather I question what we as fans use to measure whether a player is good or not. A village idiot can coach a team to 10+ wins per year if you have great athletes. Apparently not because BC couldn’t win here and Zook couldn’t do it at UF, yet BC didn’t have much trouble finding a job in the NFL and Zook is having success at Illinois. Imo, it’s like a three legged stool – one leg is recruiting, one is development (like weight training and conditioning) and one is coaching. A program needs all three to be highly successful.
  10. Teams finishing in the top 15 in recruiting and in the polls usually have the better coaches too. I'm not sure anyone can point to it and say how much is due to coaching and how much is due to recruiting. Of the elite 11 QBs a couple years ago, only Daniel has really done anything great. Recruiting services measure athletic ability, but there is a lot more to being a succesful cfb player than just athletic ability. Lastly, i think people get carried away when looking at rankings. Like a #1 class is five times better than the #5 class. In truth the athletic ability is probably much closer. And the athletic ability between the 15th - 20th ranked classes might be razor thin. Same goes for the kids themselves - there's probably not much seperation from the 10th and 20th ranked kid at a position, 30th - 50th, and so on. Whatever the seperation, so much of a player is determined after getting to campus that i don't worry about it too much. If the staff is recruiting relatively poorly to our division foes 5 and 6 years down the line that might be an issue of concern. But for now i'm not worried. They've shown flashes with guys like Green. Once the get results on the field to sell they could be much more succesful.
  11. From what i've heard, ESPN does a pretty good job evaluating the one's they get too. Their problem is in the number of recruits they don't get to see.
  12. what evidence is there they passed on him? Doesn't sound like this staff has been super picky so far. If were just guessing, i'd think it's more likely he lost interest in us vs the staff losing in interest in him.
  13. i've heard this kid is likely to go pro in baseball anyways.
  14. the staff will have some experience moving a RB to LB with Glenn. If he has a good year, this might be a selling point to Cain.
  15. Our coaches offered him a scholly, so he obviously wasn't that big of a risk. At the same time his measureables don't indicate that he is unequaled. NU can have a fine class with or without him. The only potential story here is that he chose KU over NU. But can we really take much meaning from that? Young is just one recruit. Surely if a lot of recruits started following Young's lead it would be something of note. On the other hand, if they don't then Young's decision means very little in this respect. Only time will tell if this is a big deal or not.
  16. Don't they already have a RB committ though?
  17. Yeah. Academically speaking, i have a hard time believing the University of Arkansas is completely inferior to MU or OU. These three players would seem to be about the same in this regard.
  18. it's one thing not to put much stock into recruiting. It's another to berate someone who's only crime is having a job in the field. I hope this isn't true. I'd like to think Bo has more class than this.
  19. IMO, I doubt Cody Green is spewing off rumors to both sides. Honestly, I feel one side or the other is just interpreting info wrong and they are trying to be the first to break the "big news". It's a possibility, but like you said, at this point one side is going to have egg on their face. You’d think the people who work for the recruiting services would know better. Also, if it were in the character of rivals people for A&M or NU, then you’d think situations like this would happen quite often for whichever school these guys work with. Cody really doesn't seem like a kid who is about misleading folks. I've gotten to know quite a bit about him since A&M has been on him for the past year and a half. He's just a good ol' east Texas boy. He said a while back that he wanted to make his decision before his senior season so he could concentrate on his team. That doesn't sound like a kid who likes to give people the run-around. I think we have to be honest and admit we really don’t know any of these kids that well. We’d all like to believe they are all good kids, but in truth all we get is what they sell us through the media. We are never getting the full picture.
  20. Makes me think there is something very odd going on here. Is Green purposely leading each side on or he is not comunicating very well with the rivals peps or something else? Personally i think he's on the fence, and will probably end up committing to the program that's only two hourse from his parents. But the whole thing seems strange to me.
  21. Don't take this the wrong way but may I ask, who is saying he will still end up at NU? Are they reliable sources? Alls I have heard thus far is Nebraska sources coming out in the past few days saying he was a Texas A&M commit. I tend to believe he is a silent commit and has asked everyone affiliated with Texas A&M to keep it hush hush which is the reason why the rumblings are coming out of the Nebraska camp and not A&M. and Gig 'em Green has had good things to say about both schools. Near as i can tell, both camps are hearing what they want to hear and are claiming he is theirs to lose.
  22. He does seem a little tight lipped. But that just makes his comment about doubting wether or not he'll visit the more alarming imo. With everyone else he manages to say something positive such as "i like Alabama", LSU has a "good atmosphere" or Michigan "sends a lot of recievers to the NFL".
  23. Given what i read, Cook does seem to be going over the top. But who knows what else has gone on to get to this point. it's too bad both sides of this can't come to an understanding, but i'll defer to the coach for now.
  24. Something that i've heard is that BC and Coz favored bigger lineman. The decision to bulk these players up made us too slow to defend the spread attacks that we see so much of now in the Big 12. This would mean Pelini is inheriting players ill equipped to be a good defensive unit.
