  1. He mentioned the importance of the walk-on program and in-state recruiting, no change in expectations for excellence, and they way you go about it when it comes to winning and losing. That's as much as I can remember. I would guess he has a few close people he will have discussions with, most likely Charlie McBride & Milt Tenopir, maybe others.
  2. Redtildead, your post is well thought out and you are strong in your opinion, so I wont bash on you. "he has big time experience with big time schools." My thing about that particular view is... big time experience doing what? Defense? Yes, absolutely. But there are other specifics that only a head coach can gain as big time experience, like managing an entire game, special teams, offense, the whole coaching staff, the entire team, etc, etc. Although I do not agree with some of the things you said, it's because I do consider all those things more importantly than a defensive coach who's been successfull at extremely talented schools as OU and LSU. Just one example - He has never had to decide whether to kick a game tying field goal or go for it on fourth down with two minutes left of the clock. And own responsibility with his decision. Does he already know what plan A,B,C,D are and counter acting, or does he get to guess what to do while at NU and learn on the job? Now that does not cover all my points. It's one small fraction within a game only, that I believe where big time experience helps. Just my thoughts on it..
  3. I would agree that the search and interview process is definately going better than before. It appears TO (with the help of the headhunters) definately want to do a thorough job, making sure they talk to several people, and pick the best candidate for the program. At this time, I am very encouraged.
  4. I'm enjoying these stories. Keep 'em coming! My only encounter was a little different. It was after his first championship. While being interviewed after the game he glanced at the camera. I swear he was looking right at me. Consider yourselves lucky to meet him in person! I'm envious! in a good way.
  5. Yep, b/c Hoch and Steinkuhler are going to be studs on the line for several years. Whew!
  6. I have to admit AR that I got a kick out of your "If you have a short attention span, look for the red text in bold..." comment But I will not confess if I took the advice or not Yah man, I believe there is a lot of truth to that. I think other schools might have some interest. Personally, I think he may be in over his head, and that the Baylor job would be a good building block for him to kick start his head coaching career. It's still the Big 12, it's in the recruiting hot bed of Texas, you have great weather, and the expectations would be to get them to 8 wins and competitive each year.
  7. It was reported on 1620 Unsportsmanlike Conduct that Washington State is interested in TG. Thought I heard Price is going back to Washington state now They've opened some pretty classy strip joints up in Pullman since he left. Yep. If he gets the gig he'll be down at the Humperdolls shouting "Cooogers! Roar!!" "Wait! Give me that dollar back I'm not done!"
  8. It was reported on 1620 Unsportsmanlike Conduct that Washington State is interested in TG. Thought I heard Price is going back to Washington state now You mean "Roll Tide, Roll!" Mike Price? Hmm, How 'bout that...
  9. Regardless, I will be supportive whoever Osborne hires. Yep, even Pelini.
  10. No!! The swift sig ruled!! Thanks brotha dawg!! Feels different w/o it. Will bring it back shortly.
  11. Yep. I'll add that a lot of young guys more than likely thought that as well, but just havent said anything.
  12. It's great having Osborne back involved. He's interviewing, he's recruiting, he's telling the players about going to class and working out, and keeping people calm. Amazing guy... Seems like everyone can just relax, unplug their computers, and check back in a few days. "I don't want to get into any specifics," Osborne said. "When the time comes, we'll make sure everything is laid out for you. There won't be any secrets."
  13. Hanc, I'm right there with you on those things you mentioned. My belief is that the first thing you must do is dominate the line of scrimmage. Then you run the ball. You have to be able to run first, throw second. Balance is preferred. I checked out PJ's history and BIO and his teams do not gain much over 100yds per game through the air. That includes time at Hawaii and the small school he was at. My concern is seeing 8, 9 men in the box week after week. And if you cannot pass & you're down by 14 points early, then you are in a rough situation. I see a lot of comments about PJ changing his offense to spread option and such, okay that's great. But I havent read anywhere that he has done this before. He's always had success by running the ball only. So I dont understand why all the talk about how he will suddenly change to a balance attack to fit his players. He hasnt done that yet. By the way, I also agree with not caring for BCs game planning, or "strategy" during the course of a game. I dont even want to go there.
  14. Nice post. I see what you are saying. Nothing wrong with putting your thoughts out there. Especially when you put a lot of thought into it as you did. Whether he is hired or not, Gill is not a bad choice.
  15. Thank you. The Coach of the Year in the MAC will not resign for a "director" job.
  16. If true, what this means is that the hiring process is considering a lot of candidates. They dont want to overlook anyone. Which possibly means even more people to talk to instead of pulling a quick gun. Its a good thing.
  17. Then why is TG not good enough for the NU gig? The previous two comments do not make sense to me.
  18. Who is this dude, a radio guy? Could this not be posted in the lounge? Fellas, we have other forums.
  19. But our novelty is goofy and fun. Their stuff sounds like silly shenanigans. Wait... what?
  20. No question Paul Johnson has had his share of success. I'm just not excited about a predominately running game offense. Even the read option. He runs the ball all the time, not just at Navy, but everywhere he is been at. That means, it would strike me odd to bring in someone who has to change the offense all over again, recruit different style of players. I just dont believe if you hire someone they will change what gave them success their entire career. If Dr. Tom thinks that's the way to go, then okay I guess. I like a mobile QB and the way an offense can pass and run. Not a fan of a running QB that occasionally throws the ball. My opinion that is.
  21. Actually, Paul Johnson runs the ball. He ran it at Hawaii, he ran it at Georgia Southern, and he runs it at Navy. He is good at that though. Very good at it. But I prefer the forward pass, so he is not among my top two choices. From his BIO: While at Hawai'i, Johnson developed a successful offensive unit which earned top-20 I-A statistical rankings in scoring offense, total offense and rushing offense during six of his eight seasons. Georgia Southern produced 300 yards or more of total offense in 53 of its last-59 games and picked up 400-plus yards of total offense in 45 of the last-59 contests. Fullback Adrian Peterson rushed for 6,736 yards in his career, the most in the history of Division I football. In addition to Georgia Southern's 62-10 mark, the Eagles scored (39.7 points per game), picked up rushing yards (360.3 yards per game), passing yards (108.6 yards per game) and total yards (468.8 yards per game).
