  1. Who else is approaching Gill? Sure, you could use that as logic. But I dont think the next Nebraska football coach will be decided by what the nation views as popular or "in".
  2. The thing about the NFL, it's a man's league. You can throw out any hardware you won in college, and the hype will get you only so far. You can throw out your combine BS scores too. And you cant play on talent alone. You have to bust your azz day in and day out, with the mentality that the next guy is battling for your job. You have to earn everything. Only the best play. And only the very best (and healthiest) stick around.
  3. Yes, I think he's happy with his decision and embraced Nebraska. He's not ashamed. And yes, he will play in the NFL. He might hold the clipboard most of the time. But if you dont follow the NFL, then all you have to do is play fantasy football to realize how often starting QBs go down with injury.
  4. It would count against the 85 cap total so in that regard, yes. Thanks BRFO, I wasnt sure how that worked.
  5. Question: If a player is a walk-on, and by his junior year earns a scholly, does it take away the number of scholly's provided to the immediate or next recruiting class?
  6. It's time to cut ties. The coach and QB get the credit most of the time, and they also get the blame. You always start at the top. That's not a newsflash, it's just how it's always been. When things are extremely shaky like they are, you make a change starting from the top. Cally is a decent person. Unfortunately, as a coach, he failed.
  7. Not a chance -- if Dr. Tom fires Callahan, he will have a new coach annouced within a week. I am pretty sure he has an idea of who he would want to talk to and the interviewing process will happen very quickly. We cannot go through a 6-8 week search for a coach again -- that is a bad sign and one of the things that got us Callahan last time. Dr. Tom will have a plan -- unlike Pederson. I agree he will have a plan. I would also like to find out a week later. But my guess was based on interviewing possible coaches that might be in a late Dec or early Jan bowl game. I wasnt sure of the ramifications of interviewing people during bowl games, or announcing a new hire while someone is still committed to a program with a game left. I think more than that, Dr. Tom would not want to cause a distraction for other teams, or steal the headlines.
  8. Great story brotha dawg. The significance of the story is worth keeping the hat. I'd hold onto it if I were you.
  9. There are several good candidates. However, to those that are ripping into skersfan for not wanting Pelini and for stating his reasons why, well y'all better ease up. I'm telling ya... not cool.
  10. "I wish IBR would show up and bring me some good news!" That is just so sick and funny at the same time!!! Maybe he'll open the shades to his bedroom window? Herbert the pervert. Damn.
  11. I think Bohl is doing a heckuva job where he is at, and I'm happy for him. I dont think things will change as far as him leaving there for the Big Red.
  12. I am jsut curious what they said because i honetly dont remember. Addison Mode i am not trying to take anything away from what Missouri, Texas, or K-State did in those games. Also i posted this as support for Pelini, and eventhough you are right that a maybe the defense jsut needed to make more plays. However when you are playing a team that has as much or more talent than you do, you cant make a bunch of mistakes. All those teams i beleive had as much or more talent than NU and when you give them that many chances you are going to get burned evenually. I went back and read the game recaps and i think that we would have lost to K-State and Texas even if our Ofense hadnt made all those mistakes. But the Missouri game was different, this little paragraph was from the official game recap: Turnovers...Nebraska 5 (4 fumbles, 1 interception)...Missouri 2 (2 interceptions)...After Josh Bullocks picked off Brad Smith on Missouri's first drive, the Huskers scored three plays later on a Lord-to-LeFlore 55-yard pass and made the extra point. After Josh Davis fumbled Missouri's punt on the ensuing drive, Missouri recovered at the NU 7-yard line...Missouri scored two plays later on a 6-yard Abron's run. On the ensuing short kickoff, upman Jack O'Holleran fumbled the kickoff and Missouri recovered at the NU 29, but Smith was picked off by linebacker Demorrio Williams, his first career interception. I-back David Horne fumbled on the Missouri 12 and the Tigers recovered with approximately 6:30 remaining in the first half. Missouri did not convert. In the fourth quarter, Nebraska's Lord fumbled and MU recovered on the Nebraska nine. The Tigers converted the turnover into seven points on a touchdown via a fake field goal. Behind 34-24 in the fourth, Lord threw an interception which Zach Ville returned 39 yards to the NU 7. Missouri scored two plays later. Nebraska has gained 21 turnovers this season (NU had 21 turnovers gained in 14 games last season), and turned them into 61 points, while opponents have gained 15 turnovers and turned them into 28 points (21 by Missouri). I was not trying to give Pelini's D a pass in these situations but you also cant crucify him for those games like some people have(thats why Pederson claimed he fired them). It's cool NP . I like the recaps, the stats and such. And I'm being honest by saying you did a great job with the research. I just wanted to give a different perspective. Those were three gut-buster games. I dont think its accurate to say the defense gave up so many points just because of a poor offense. That team had several guys that are now playing on Sundays (Demario Williams, Barrett Ruud, Scott Shanle, Fabian Washington, Josh Bullocks) BTW.
  13. It's a rumor board so I cant argue. I would have to agree that Turner is what TO likes character wise. And Gill has done some good things with a dead end program. I can see him getting hired. I would not have a problem with that. I dont think I will have a problem with any coach he hires. And that includes, yes, even Pelini. (If you dont know already, that says a lot coming from me).
  14. It's a fair question. I think Dr. Tom will take his time, will interview each candidate, prolly at least 5 to 7. I'm guessing it wont be until sometime in January. Definitely will not be rushed. He wants whats best for the program, the state of Nebraska, tradition, excellence, and a competitive football team. Simple stuff. I do not think the next coach will feel pressured to win, win, win or get out. TO has that calming effect and honest approach to make the guy feel at home. It's up to the next coach to listen, understand, and not try to alienate himself from the program with ego or a launching pad for his career attitude. And I think TO would like to find someone with values and would consider sticking around for 15 years. Tough decision if you ask me.
  15. Some say Defensive Coordinators are either crazy, or have a nut loose. Will Muschamp... Bust It!! Yee Haw!! <unfortunately I could not upload a dynamic image>
  16. Man.. I love those colors on that board. But they dont get the snazzy signatures or avatars like we do.
  17. I havent really followed PJ much. I caught the ending of the Navy/ND game on satellite, and his press conference while traveling. All I can add is that he speaks from the heart and really has a feel for the game and what's going on. And intersting enough, not one time did he answer any reporter with "... in that regard... in terms of... in that aspect... the kids.... " I guess that part doesnt matter. Just so done with Cally it's getting to me.
  18. Apparently excuses can be over looked when it's a Pelini defense. Lets put it a different way. Instead of the "but.." or "the offense turned the ball over".. "The offense didnt move the ball".. "It's the offense fault".., how about giving credit to the other team's defense? I can look at those losses and say with confidence that Missouri, Texas, K-State all played better defense. Thus the turnovers and reason why the NU offense couldnt keep up. But when the other team plays great defense, so should yours. Pelini's defense doesnt deserve a break from that. It's a copout. They didnt do the job it takes to stop the other team from scoring. They are suppose to defend. Not just 80 yards away, but at all times. Those three teams put it to us and the excuses that it wasnt related to Pelini's defense is tiring. I think your research is very well done, statiscally.
  19. LOL! Yah, true true. Definately not a fan of Cally or the crap we keep seeing (same sh!t, different saturday), so I am encouraged there will be a new coach here regardless.
  20. How much money are you willing to bet on it? I have a grand that says he's a HC somewhere next year. Because he's one of the best coordinators out there, he'll get his shot next year as a HC somewhere. It's funny you say defend him when you have nothing to claim he wouldn't make a great HC. He took a pretty miserable D from 2002 and made them one of the best in 03. Look at how his D was statistically at OU. Look at how it's been at LSU. All he does is make a D great. If you ask me, he sounds a lot like another D coordinator once upon a time that was at KState and then Florida! If I've said it once, I've said it 100 times. Great defenses occur when there's an adequate offense that gives them a breather. One of the reasons our D this year is so poor is because our offense seldom if ever wins the time of possession war. We simply go 3 and out. Against KU, the offense gave KU the short field all friggin game. I realize our D is horrible, but they get absolutely no help at all from the offense. In 2003, our D was right around top 10 while our offense was in the 80's. Junior, I will respond but I'm pretty sure we will disagree. Your opinions and insight are usually pretty good. So I will take a shot here. One: I cannot promote a person because of what they did in just one year (2003 defense) here. Had it been over three years, then that would make sense. He did do a decent job at NU. Two: Track record of changing places. He went from NU to OU to LSU. Niice. That tells me he is not up for a challenge, which would mean a university not consistently ranked in the top 10. Maybe in a few years he might run off to Ohio State & beef up the resume even more? In other words, yes he is doing well as a D-Coordinator at the stops he's been at. But I'm not buying into a theory that he changed OU and LSU from stinkbombs to WMDs. It's overrated. Three: No Head Coaching experience means excatly that. I dont sugar coat this. Let the OTJ training start at Iowa State, not at Nebraska. Your last coach (Cally) had no college football experience. And neither did Solich. And if you throw in Osborne, that was over thirty years ago. Let it go. Why take a chance on someone who has never managed a coaching staff, an entire football team, and ran a program and turned it from a team fallen by the wayside to a confident and successful team? My answer is no way ever will I take that risk. Four: I do not particularly care for his showmanship to KSU's Bill Snyder, or his stupid penalty in a bowl game he coached in, or the way he ran down NU to recruits while at OU. This is a reflection of a crybaby that doesnt know how to deal with things that do not go his way. I stay clear from those people. They dont change. They only hide it better. If he becomes a head coach some day, some where, and even if its A&M, okay I dont have a problem with that. I wish him well. I do not think he is going to turn this program around and bring back quality guidance and leadership, winning attitude, chemistry, pride, and embrace former players, the AD for their thoughts & opinons, and teach these young men about football, Husker tradition, the importance of education and life lessons. If he becomes the Head Coach at Nebraska because Dr. Tom believes he is the guy, then I will back him with support 100%. I'll have no trouble becoming humble and saying that I made a misjudment and was wrong. But hell, that has not happened.
