  1. Nope, many D1 level kids follow their dreams, and prove someone wrong by showing the doubters wrong. He wasn't seen as good enough to use a coveted scholarship on. Was he offered a greyshirt?Machovicka, Dad Steinkueler, and many others have manned up and gone the walkon route, but I'm glad he had an excellent career at (where did he play again)!
  2. I saw Woodhead play a couple times. He's a great player, and if he wanted to prove it at Nebraska, he should have walked on and earned a scholarship, like many others have. Evidently he wasn't sure either. IMO,He wasn't a D1 scholarship type player.
  3. Maybe he could bring a defensive end or recruit or two with him.
  4. Coz, in his 1st year, had the same personel that Pelini had, and they went from being very good, to very bad. I'm not sold on our secondary coach either.I hate that they are coached to not look for the ball....Asanine.
  5. One of my best memories in sports as a young man (probably not that good of memory cause I cant remember the year) was seeing Nebraska fans storm the field, and watch Barry get knocked down in the melee. It was a rainy/snowy day, and I think it was the year that their coke dealer quarterback (name? Thompson?) broke his leg in the game.
  6. The Alabama defensive stats over his 3 years are very good.I'd be very surprised if he doesn't jump at the chance to leave Alabama for Nebraska....kinda like a rat jumping off a burning ship. And maybe, if he's as good as advertised, he can take over the DC position, hopefully sooner, rather than later.
  7. H-Street is a Dum Bass,I loved him trying to explain away the popularity of the Huskers.Switzer gave us great props. All Dum Bass II, Mark May could say was 'remember the 1924 Notre Dame team...four horseman...yada yada'. If he knew his college football history, he'd know the Huskers beat them too.Too Funny. It's great to be a Husker!
  8. Yes, many have switched from the option to a more pro style. At the summer highschool coaches clinic, much more emphasis is put on the pro style.
  9. If Zac Taylor doesn't stick on an NFL team, I think he'd be a great grad assistant for Keller!
  10. I think that with everything else being equal, Marlon Lucky is BC's favorite, but BJAX performed well enough that it couldn't be ignored.I liked it when the carries were spread around earlier in the year.Did,t BJAX have near 40 carries in a recent game. Why not throw a different wrinkle with other personel?
  11. No way Woodhead would have been an every down back for us, and appearently no other D1 coach thought so either.Enjoy that he was the best at his level, but dont overstate his potential. He didn't have a D1 body, that is not our fault.
  12. I think it is more the fact that BC has become one of us.It isn't a buisness anymore....it is full of joy and pain.Passion and determination.Remember, he wasn't born into this like most of us, so even though he thought he was 'all in', it wasn't untill just recently (certainly not during and after the USC game) that he felt our pain.It had to astound him that 60,000 crazies followed the team to Arrowhead! It's only going to get better!
  13. It appears my earlier post came across as me putting all the blame on college age kids. That was not my intent, though I stand by my oppinion of decending morals, character, honor, etc. As far as Husker football,I think the blame crosses over age lines, and falls on the shoulder of 'joe fan' that makes weak personal decisions about how he will conduct himself in public.I raised hell in my day, and did some of the elicit things college kids do, but when I was in public,I tried to go by the standards that the generation befor me laid out. At the game in KC, I sat in the south endzone, east of the goalposts around row 23 or so, and we were loud, and never sat down, and I really think for the most part, people were having clean fun, until the alchohol kicked in.I sat infront of a loudmouth, who I'd guess was 40ish, and as the game went on, and he became more frustrated by our play, and the score, he turned into Mr. idiot, who was cursing, yelling stupid things about what the coaches should do ,etc. I was sitting with 4 of my kids, all college age,2 being daughters, and I finally turned around and told him to watch his language.I mentioned that I was aware he was frustrated, but he was ruining the experience for people around him, and I didn't want my daughters to have to here him.Of coarse, the first thing out of his mouth was"hey buddy, I'm very educated about football,so dont tell me to be quiet". I told him I disagreed about his football inteligence, because I had had to listen to him the entire game, and the cursing needed to stop.It literally could have turned into a altercation, if the buddies he was with had not stepped in, and told him to cool it. Now the guy was a jackass in general, but would have been much less so without his getting so drunk.
  14. You're kidding right? If you haven't noticed the decending morals, character, honor, and discretion in the general population, and even more so in highschool and college age people, you must have your head in the sand. It seems like people cant do anything, or attend any event without getting totally drunk and wasted anymore. The degree of vulgarity with which people now comonly talk to each other, and the decending lack of respect people show for any level of authority in our society is unprecedented. Some of you, are highschool or college teachers and almost all of us know someone who is a teacher, so ask any teacher you know if they feel good about how young peoples values stack up with 10 or 20 years ago. People now go to fast food joints now, and then just throw the trash on the side of the road.I hear young kids talk crap to parents, teachers, and adults regularly, and parents put up with it.I've seen many folks on here talk about how the 'blue hairs' just sit on their hands, or dont cheer, but once those folks are all gone, an era of respect and honor will be gone with them. We as the next generation, and younger one that is following, are throwing away an oportunity to be the type of fans they were.No one can honestly say Nebraska's level of fan 'goodness' has not slipped in the last few years. It is a fact, and it is happening across the country. I attended the game at Kansas City, where I attended the tailgates, and drank with everyone else. On the way home on Sunday,I told my college age kids, who I partied with on Saturday, that I would have loved to attend that exact game again, with everyone at the game totally sober.Wouldn't it be just as much fun? Without some of the indescretion?
  15. Sad deal! http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=38&u_sid=2293367
  16. Thanks for the correction Red. You're right, as usual. Blacklege to McClosky.
  17. Bama, I answered my own question.
  18. Farley basically washed out after being drafted. His demon, was alchohol, etc.!
  19. They have the 86 Penn State team in there, who without poor officiating, and an odd shaped playing field, wasn't even the best team of '86!
  20. Or match what Louisville promises on the sly....just a thought. I dont like a kid controlling or holding our program hostage. If he wants to be a part of our future, sign on the line, if not ....get it over with.
  21. Jones gets burned a lot, and leaves a lot to be desired in the tackling department, but he's still the best healthy corner we have. Murillo was on the top of my wish list, and I see our secondary as being pretty good next year, with lots of competition for playing time.If Bowman is back, it will be a huge plus.
  22. Add 7! From Norfolk and Lincoln = 379
  23. I personally think Nebraska has 4 (5 with Dillard) better linebackers than Rued. That's my opinion.
