  1. Hello fans and friends. I thought you all would like a little bit of information that I've come across. First let me give you the background on where this info comes from. I have a friend that has served on the Husker since Solich was HC. Thru him, I got to know several other people that work with the players year-round. To them, the information we covet is their everyday lives and answering a question about Husker football is like a math teacher answering a math problem. No big deal. Some who know me know the person but I can't give names, and would appreciate his name not being put on the board either. Anyway, here's a little of what he told me: expect Pelini practices to be full contact the majority of the time (like Mon, Tues and Wed) with Sundays off. Pelini is also going to make sure the RB's get hit often, not to try to injure them, but he's a believer that the more physical the player the better he becomes. Marlon complained quite a bit about getting hit under BC, but he probably got hit as much last year as he's going to the 1st week of spring ball. If he works hard and doesn't give up on the coaches, you'll truly see the reason he got his 5 star ranking out of HS. Pelini learned from other coaches when he was here in 03 how to get the most out of a player. Jimmy Williams broke Demmorrio Williams down and was able to shape him into a star. DW was on the verge of quitting the team, and was actually headed off the field in tears. Jimmy stopped him before he got into the locker room and convinced him that the coaches were pressing him so hard because his talent was sick but he wasn't working hard enough and taking advantage of it. DW finally listened, stepped up and became one of the biggest surprises on the defense his senior year. Jimmy's not on this staff, but Carl, Bo, Marvin, Ron and Barney were all part of that same mindset and are extremely eager to work with these kids and start winning. I'll try to share more of this info as I have time. Amazing how much time kids, a wife and a job take from me. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll share what I can, when I can. hoyamannn
  2. There's no way Callahan is getting another season. He's not a good coach. He hasn't come back on a team when down at the half since he's arrived. It doesn't matter if he gets someone to put a good defense on the field because he isn't going to be here to see it.
  3. I guess if I chime in with my opinion I won't be the only one, huh? ha I'm not attacking Corey when I say he's the least talented MLB we've had here in about 12 years. This is my opinion but it was formed by listening to someone that watched practice every day for several years and also from a couple of former All-Americans I got to speak with last Saturday. Hearing former players and people inside the program break down their honest assessment of a player is both highly encouraging and incredibly disheartening at the same time. Hearing about the physical talents of guys like Dillard, Octavien and Thenarse are nice, but hearing how players like Ruud and McKeon cannot be taught the fire to want to destroy blockers to get to the ball carrier sucks. The fact that Zack Bowman is the only player NOT wearing his blackshirt is also telling. The rest of the guys need to follow the lead of their captain and prepare hard and try to EARN that jersey. At least our offense is playing well. That Keller kid isn't too bad!
  4. yesterday. My wife and sister-in-law took her. In the past, whenever the Huskers are on TV she finds something else to do, usually her dolls or a movie on the Disney Channel. Well all thru the game yesterday she was curious to know the rules and wanted to know the players. She picked a few players to follow (Ricky Thenarse mostly, and was also concerned when Andre Jones went down). The greatest thing about it happened near the end of the game. After Ball State missed the FG, everyone in the place knew the game was over. My wife and sister said 'well, let's start heading out.' My daughter looked up at the clock and said 'there's 12 seconds left, THE GAME IS NOT OVER!' and they stayed until the end. I think I've got another true Husker fan in the house now!
  5. C'mon, Snoop is arguably THE greatest rapper ever, or at least has maybe the greatest rap album ever in Doggystyle. He's been in the game since honeys was wearing Sassoons for crying out loud!
  6. He gives us a weapon we didn't have last year. Forcing teams to start on the 20 and giving us a shot at hitting 40+ yard field goals could really help us win an extra game or two.
  7. Help me out guys. I need some KSU and Florida State Farks. I'm taking a beating at work with a couple of clowns and need to load up my gun and fire some shots at them. I'm sure with the Fat Prince and great-Grandpa Bobby these won't be tough to come by. Gracias.
  8. I talked to Slauson earlier this week and asked him about his shoulder. He said it feels really good, his recovery is going better than planned and right now he has 100% range of motion. The training staff is being cautious and not rushing him back, and he may be held out of the season opener. But he also said he could play with no concerns and that he really wants to play in the 1st game.
  9. Well here's what we're up against: Sat Sept 29, NU hosts IA State, OU @ CU, KSU @ Texas, Baylor @ A&M, Sam Houston @ OSU and Northwest State @ Texas Tech. KSU/Texas will probably be televised because of last year but the other games aren't very appealing. Sat Nov 3, NU @ KU, A&M is at OU, Texas @ OSU, Mizzou @ CU, KSU @ ISU and TTech @ Baylor. I think the casual fan would rather watch the OU game and the Texas game for sure. This is probably NU's worst chance at getting televised. Sat Nov 10, NU hosts Grimace and his fat QB, TTech @ Texas, Baylor @ OU, A&M @ Mizzou, CU @ ISU and KU @ OSU. Not a lot of appeal here, either. Right now the Misery game looks the best out of the bunch.
  10. Dang it! If I didn't come across 2 FREE tickets last night I may have bid on these.
  11. If you're a believer of the NFL mentality, then the 3 most important positions on the field are QB, LT and MLB. I don't think that argument is true of our team, but if we were to lose Keller, Nicks and McKeon/Dillard this year, that would really suck.
  12. Sounds like he'll be out for Nevada for sure, return for Wake Forest.
  13. I was listening to someone that covers USC talk about how they could struggle without their receivers, because Booty really relied on their talent last year. It talked about how he struggled when Jarrett was injured last year, because he and Smith never made a mistake with routes, and could use their athleticism and talent to make plays that shouldn't have been made. However, their defense was very young last year and they lose nothing, and they were awesome. They have experience at QB which is pretty important as well. Last year people were dismissing them because they had to replace one of the greatest RB's in college history as well as an awesome QB, yet they still fared really well. I think the Huskers could win, but we're bringing in a new QB, we lost 4 NFL-caliber defensive linemen, we still have no weapon at TE and our best CB is questionable for the game. Hopefully the x-factor (the crowd) will help quite a bit.
  14. OK, I have a question for you all. I was reading a story on another website about how great a certain coach is and that he should be given raises, upgrades, etc... My question is: If this certain coach was a great recruiter, seemed to be a pretty good coach, yet was VERY unpopular and disliked by the same kids he recruited once they got to campus, is that something as a Husker fan that you would like to know? Or would you just prefer the stance of "what I don't know doesn't hurt me."?
  15. Well at least they put LSU/Florida above Michigan/Ohio State. I really don't care about that Little 11 game this year. A team (Michigan) that lost 9 defensive starters from a defense that got scorched last year in their final two games, and another (OSU) that lost their big play QB and WR who were really the only two reasons to watch them anyway. I like the Hawaii game, I can't wait to see Colt in action this year throwing the ball to Leon Jackson out of the backfield! Overall, it's tough to argue, those are gonna be some great games. I don't think Missouri warrants enough national attention to put our game w/them on there. What have they really ever done? Pinkel usually finds a way to screw things up and I'm hoping this year is no different.
  16. Stack the top 7 in the SEC against any other conference in the country, and that would be tough to beat. Florida, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas and Alabama. Big 12 would go NU, OU, Texas, A&M, OSU and then get smoked probably after that. Big 10 would go OSU, Michigan, PSU, Iowa and Wisconsin and then get rolled. SEC just goes strong from top to bottom. When Spurrier is coaching South Carolina, you know the conference is tough.
  17. He rolled his ankle and wasn't held out of practice today. This per Steve Sipple/Lincoln Journal Star.
  18. He's practicing well and getting good reviews by the coaching staff. He wasn't 100% healthy in the spring, but he is now. Look for him to get a lot of time at MLB, likely more than McKeon as the season progresses. He has better size for the position and plays the run better. He will get in alot but it is unlikely he will take Mckeons spot. Just from what I've heard...he's got more of what Coz and company are looking for in the position than Corey does. Corey is a bit undersized to be a MLB, which affects his run defense. If you watch him against the run, he gets taken out of the play quite a bit because instead of taking the blocker on, he'll try to go around him. This usually results in a little bigger hole for the RB. Dillard is more physical than Corey and he goes head to head with the lead blocker more often and wreaks more havoc. Corey is better suited to play outside where he can run free. He's very smart, athletic and talented, and in no way am I taking anything away from Corey when I say Phil will get more time at MLB. I think we'll see a lot of formations this year with both of them on the field with the same time. Because we're so deep at LB, we'll run the 3-4 at times. Dillard came to camp 2 years ago and wasn't in great shape, and the coaches weren't happy at all. He was in the doghouse for quite a while. Last spring/summer, he worked his can off and was going to make quite a difference last year, but then he got hurt. He hasn't lost his focus, and if he stays healthy he's going to be force on our defense this year. I see Dillard and Suh being the biggest difference makers on our defense this year. Suh is going to dominate.
  19. I know some casual fans that have season tickets just for the big games, so they usually dump their early tickets on ebay or to somebody they know. What will you pay?
  20. He's practicing well and getting good reviews by the coaching staff. He wasn't 100% healthy in the spring, but he is now. Look for him to get a lot of time at MLB, likely more than McKeon as the season progresses. He has better size for the position and plays the run better.
  21. I heard both the Big Sports 590 guy and the 2 guys on 1620 the Zone talking about that today. I heard from one of the Huskers staff that she's a new reporter, not really attractive but she did have a VERY SHORT dress on. Also heard a gust of wind caught the dress and revealed some tiny undies also. I'm guessing there isn't going to be a photo of her, I can't find anything right now on the web. I don't even know her name or what station she works for.
  22. Gourmet grill is 10 times better than Ali Baba's.
  23. I'm not sure, I've never had to park my RV down there. I just drive 5 minutes to the stadium! That being said, I'd suggest you call the ticket office at 888-8BIGRED. They've been pretty helpful in the past.
  24. I don't know much about computers, but is that pretty powerful? I need a new desktop.
  25. I don't think Husker fans did much bashing with the Omaha kid that chose Miami last year. Guess I could be wrong, though.
