  1. How about something different before each game..Kinda like the different opening scenes in "The Simpsons" episodes. One week, you can have the pyrotechnic dept. rig up some explosives, the next week we can have it holding back a wall of water, then the dam (doors) breaking followed by the team..Then, the week after that, you could have Herbie wielding a light saber and cutting through the doors, then, the next week, you could have a dial put on the doors, and bring in a safe cracker..And , the next week.... Somethin' tells me this is going to be an especially long off-season. .... Some smartass could lock them and we could watch them struggling to let the team on the field!!!
  2. Ganz deserves it, but if you were a new coach, would you play someone with 1 year left when you can blame that year on Clownahan, or would you start developing your guy for the next 3 or 4 years? I think Ganz will get screwed so that we can prepare for the future.
  3. Ah no I'd say the lackluster defense cost us that game. We scored 39 against KU & 51 against CU. Is there anyone who can look at those numbers while realizing we LOST those games and not KNOW that the offense did its job while the defense didn't even show up?
  4. That's it. They wouldn't even bothering to put out a release for clarification if the axe wasn't falling after Colorado. I think this also says- there is a coach in the wings and they want to shore up the recruiting class ASAP... I don't know that another coach is already waiting in the wings, especially now with the high possibility of Carr leaving Michigan. This affects a lot of teams that are or will be looking for a new coach because Les Miles likely would go to Michigan. Then the question is: who does LSU want? If they want Pelini, then that might affect Nebraska and/or Texas A&M. My guess is that nobody has agreed to the job yet. The football show on a local radio station (KLBJ) here in Austin seemed to think Spurrier could be the next LSU coach. This would suck on several levels - recruiting would be all LSU territory from Houston east through La. Just think of a team with LSU quality athletes not being hampered by by Les Miles calling the plays. That guy almost had that team losing 4 games this year. Unbelievable!
  5. Your LSU friend is welcome to think that Husker Fans are "condescending" towards our opponents when they walk off the field. Frankly, that argument holds no logic. If it were true, we would not give the exact same ovation to the teams that beat us as they walk off the field. Tell Mr. LSU about the inscriptions on the stadium: “Not the victory but the action Not the goal but the game In the deed the glory” And: "Courage; Generosity; Fairness; Honor; In these are the true awards of manly sport." These are the tenets of Husker Football. I knew these sayings by the time I was ten years old. Many teams pay lip service to the concepts in these inscriptions, but the Huskers lived them for the better part of my life. I’d like to believe that our fans still do, even if the current coaches seem to have forgotten all about them. That’s why we give our opponents that ovation, win or lose. It’s not condescending, it comes from a legitimate appreciation of the effort they gave and the sport they play. It has so very little to do with whether we beat them or they beat us. It’s not surprising that an outsider wouldn’t know this. I just hope that everyone who calls themselves a Husker Fan today knows these things, and goes to the games with an intention to live up to them. Now, I have no idea why KU fans gave us that ovation. I'd like to believe that they were doing it for the same reason we do. Maybe someone who was at the game can shed more light on that, but unless that ovation was accompanied by some overt form of derision, I have no reason to believe they were doing anything other than offering their thanks for our part in the game. Very similar to my response to him, but better said!
  6. True about Callahan, but I don't think your logic holds water when you think about the fact that TO'd kids had similar problems. (I do remember the days of everyone hating TO for not being able to win the BIG one!)
  7. No, I didn't mean me. There are other stakeholders besides me. That's all I meant. The board software itself is pretty limp without someone to run it. I understand what you are saying and overall, I do agree. I just think that this rage Husker fans feel when they hear about this stuff isn't uncommon among most fan bases. So that, for me, yields the question "What does make Husker fans unique?" Sure, there is the applauding the other team but what else? Husker fans are great fans. I never said they weren't. Here is an email I received from a LSU fan (now there is a ugly group!) We had an argument that the about what we were expressing vs. what how the clapping was being received. What do you think - are we making the other fans feel like we think we are better than them? And is this similar to are thinking we are "Footballs greatest fans?" - For years, Nebraska fans have been lauded for the way they politely clap for the vanquished opposing team after home games. The shoe was on the other foot this week as Kansas fans clapped for the Nebraska as it walked off the field. Several Nebraska fans have commented on how condescending the nice gesture really feels to the other side.
  8. Steven M. Sipple: Bring on the Big Red's next coach “Nebraska can always be a good program,” says ESPN radio commentator Colin Cowherd. “But unless they substantially overpay and get the best coach in the country, I never see them being a juggernaut again. Businesses, life and sports evolve. And warm-weather schools are winning and growing at a much faster rate than cold-weather schools.“ To be sure, many cold-weather programs have fallen in last decade: Notre Dame, Penn State, Washington, Iowa, Nebraska. Sports mirrors life, Cowherd says, and people from cold-weather states are heading to the Carolinas, Florida, Texas, the West Coast, the Southwest. It’s harder to recruit to cold-weather states. Global Warming: I knew there had to be an upside to it!
  9. I was just about to say the same thing! It really makes me feel ashamed and mad to think about what their families are going though. Greatest fans in the world? Midwest values? WTF!
  10. Thanks! (but he isn't saying what I wanted to hear - "Bye!")
  11. I was surprised they headed for the exits. The team was fighting hard, and those fans gave up on them. I guess I know too much about UT to know we weren't going to put this game away, lol. We were already laughing about how it would come down to an onside kick, and sure enough, we were right. Why travel all the way from Nebraska and then leave during a still-tight game? Our fans are usually the lame ones. We mostly sit on our hands, and you could hear a pin drop in the stadium when you went up big. Our teams showed lots of heart, but your team came to win aqnd played their hearts out. The fans need to support. I was sitting in the upper deck with my son and when we went from a 14 point lead to a 10 point deficit the ones who started leaving were the whiney fans just waiting for a reason to say "See, I told you they suck"! We stayed to the very end and we watched a very good football game! I've seen my Huskers lose down here so many times, I'm also frustrated, BUT, I really enjoyed watch this game (I only we could have won!). On to the play calling - WTF?- was there ever a 1st down play that wasn't a run up the middle? We called the play EVERYTIME! The coaches lost this game - TO, if your listening, please go ahead and fire these guys - they have given up and are just waiting for their buyouts - givem their money and lets get our kids some coaches that care about them!
  12. I'm sticking by the team. It's not like i'm going to switch sides or anything. I'm just not going to display it as much as I usually do. I'm taking enough flak from my Buff fan friends and I dont need to hear it from strangers. I'll end up getting arrested...again. I'm just not going to let myself get worked up is all. Sad...jeez - rooting for a team only when its winning.....I glad that this guy is the exception and not the rule! I can't wait to see my Husker brothers and sisters at Saturdays game here in Austin! GBR!
  13. That was the 1st bad - sick to my stomach game, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited for "HIS" team to arrive. Then, watching USC push us around like we were a bunch of kids playing ball with our Dads was when I predicted we would have a losing season and I gave up on Clowahan.
