Haha, sounds a lot like how it is down here at Auburn. A man got great tickets to the iron bowl (auburn/alabama game) right on the 50 yard line. He got to his seats and sat down. As it got closer to game time, he noticed that there was an empty seat in front of him. Thinking of a few friends he could invite to come sit in the section, he asked the man next to the empty seat if it was available. The old man replied, "That's my wife's seat, we used to come to the game and sit in these two seats every year until she died." Touched, the younger man said "I'm so sorry to hear that, but isn't there a family member or friend that you could bring to the game?" To which the old man replied, "Nah, they're all at her funeral." And an Auburn themed valentines day card that follows suit...

I mentioned to the guy in front of me at the game that I thought nebraska's weakness was the secondary, and told me that "No, our weakness i the second half" I thought that was interesting because this year, Auburn was a second half team. Especially on defense. The same thing happened to Florida. Thats what was great about the 2004 season... the team showed up for all 4 quarters. Here's to a better team and a better season for both the Huskers and the Tigers next year!

I have to say, the Nebraska fans at the game didn't disappoint. I was in the middle of the Sea of Red in my Auburn Jersey and I had no problems yelling and carrying on for Auburn. Aside from one anonymous fan throwing something at me, even the drunk fans around me were the utmost example of class and still showed great spirit. The best were the fans walking out of the stadium who tapped me on the shoulder, shook my hand, and said "good game." Thanks for accepting me here and being reasonable fans. I don't think I've met a group of fans yet who were logical and reasonable, yet still showed all the spirit that a fanbase should. Starting tomorrow, I'm happy to say I can start wearing my Nebraska gear again and until we meet for another game, GO BIG RED!!!!!! p.s. don't worry, I'll be around the boards.

Well, i had planned on picking out a grassy area on a map for us to tailgate, but after reading the fan guide, i found out that we can only tailgate where we park. Which means I don't know where we'll be specifically, BUT, it will most likely be on the north north western side of the fair grounds by the science museum/IMAX theater. We're driving in a 2005 Silver Camry with one Auburn car flag and one Nebraska car flag. I'm pretty sure that no one else here will fit that description, but just in case, we have Georgia tags and my name is John. So, if you happen to get online and read this before heading to the stadium, and if you're in the area, feel free to come by and hang out for a bit! (Beer and food not supplied.... :-)

To be honest with you, although points are hard to come by, its not because we have a poor offense. If you look at our first two games, admittedly against weaker teams than NU, we put up 40 on Wash. State and 34 on Miss. State. Then came LSU and we paid dearly for opposing them. Although we came out with the win, the team was never the same again. We haven't been healthy since that day with Brandon Cox going down with a hard hit to his knee and Kenny Irons developing a case of seemingly chronic turf toe not to mention all the OL going up against maybe the toughest D-line in the nation. As if that wasnt bad enough, we played a rebuilding game against Buffalo, then went on the road on Thurs. to play S. Carolina in a close one, then back home to get slapped around by Arkansas only to have another big game against Florida the next week. Without a single bye week the whole season we were extremely lucky to get out of it at 10-2. But now, we've had a nice long time to recover and this is the best shape you'll have seen our tigers in since the season opener. As for points, our lowest amount scored was 7 against LSU. Then 10 in a loss to Arkansas, and 15 in a loss to UGA, other than those three, we've scored over 22 points in every game. An interesting point to be made here is that the only teams that have held us below 20 points were playing smashmouth football against us. If Nebraska can beat us physically, its all over, but if you start this finesse playing like you have all season (Minus the Big XII champ.), look out, cause we'll take advantage of that.

Alright, we have a John Madden talk-alike contest going here. Interesting side note: John Madden's son, John Madden Jr. Pitched for the Auburn Tiger baseball team and graduated in (i think) 2005.

har har... don't get me wrong, I love the huskers, but i hope they lose jan. 1st, but if they win, it will still be the best loss in Auburn history (to me).

So ya see, we've done well against both heavier and lighter defenses, which leaves me where I was before tonight... in the dark as to which type of defense is better against Auburn.

First of all, it sounds like ol' Trev did a great job of not answering the question whatsoever.... Second, on defense, cut-backs and misdirection could go a long way against our quick LB's. And having a huge OL will help as well. But you must must must MUST keep our DE's in check. Not only are these guys quick and hard-hitting, but they have a way of getting in a QB's head. Taylor's good, and he seems pretty well composed, but you can tell when someone's got their mind on what's going on around him rather than down field and if our DE's get that advantage, the secondary will have a field day. On the defensive side you have got to put pressure on the QB. Esspeically if you have a weak secondary. Cox has the skill to pick apart defenses and I've only seen him get flustered twice... during the UGA game this year, and during the Wisconsin game last year (not even in his 4-INT first start against GT in 2005). Put the pressure on, however, and take the lead, and you will be sitting pretty. This is all only true if you can cover the run as well as you say you can. Kenny is a beast and he's been in hibernation all season. Without Lester, you don't have to worry as much because he was always underestimated and that gave him an advantage but Kenny will put up 200 even if you're expecting it. (See LSU 2005 - 218 yds). Finally, you have to get ahead and stay ahead. If the game is close (and I mean within 7) our kicking game could be what pushes us ahead. Not that NU's special teams are any kind of slouches, but you will be lucky to touch the ball on any kickoff. You will have to be on your toes to get more than 5 yds on a punt return, and our field goal range starts around the 35, although on a good day, i have faith that he could hit it from 60.

We had a pretty negative image back in the days of Alabama "greatness." The bama fans would spread it around that we were a bunch of no class rednecks that had nothing to do but milk cows all day. In fact, the Bear, amongst many others, commonly referred to Auburn (and many do today) as the school down the road or the cow college. So some people got it in their heads that auburn fans really didn't have any class. And then again, many Auburn fans probably didn't seeing as it didnt make a difference in the national view of Auburn. However, nowadays, you'd find 10 classless redneck Alabama fans that jumped on board during the glory days for every one low class Auburn fan you find. Of course there are still many Bama fans that show the utmost class and dignity. I think they all just hang out with Nessie and Sasquatch...

Ugh, one other thing for you to consider... Auburn played 12 straight games this season with no Bye. LSU was the 3rd game, Arkansas was 6th, and Florida was 7th. We've been hampered by injury the whole season between Brandon Cox's knee and Kenny Irons' toe, knee, and shoulder (maybe the ankle also?) we lost a lot of offensive production. I would look to the Washington state game if you want to see what Auburn is going to be like fully healthy. And yes, Auburn's offense has been weak this season, but in our biggest games, our defense has more than made up for that. The defense held LSU to 3 points and Florida to 17. In the Florida game, we scored 27 points and not one of them was an offensive touchdown. We had 4 field goals from our incredible PK, one touchdown, a well placed punt put us in position to score on a safety, a blocked punt on special teams for a touchdown, and a fumble return for a touchdown put Auburn in the lead. In fact, if you count the safety as a special teams score, our special teams alone scored 21 points. And that might be nothing against any other team, but that was against Florida. Don't count Auburn out for their lack of offense, keep them in for their incredible defense and special teams.

I noticed a while ago that your stats are better, but you have to keep in mind that Auburn has played 2 top 5 teams, and 3 top 15 teams. Nebraska has played 3 top 10 team, and 4 ranked teams. Against ranked opponents, Auburn is 2-3, Nebraska is 1-4. Nebraska also had a I-AA team to boost those stats a bit... I only bring this up because Auburn was chastised so heavily for having the Citadel on their schedule in 2004 so it obviously means something. It is also of note that Nicholls state is not ranked in div. I-AA with a 4-7 record (two of the losses were to Div. I-A teams Nebraska and La. Tech.) As for the whole "blowout" thing, I'm going to take the liberty of defining "blowout" as a win by 21 points or more. Tell me if you do not agree with that. The following rankings are also being taken from the Collegefootballnews.com top 119 rankings so that I can put perspective to these blowout wins. In this season, Nebraska has blown out the following teams: Rank Team Score Record 104. La. Tech (49-10) 3-10 n/a Nicholls St. (56-7) 4-7 106. Troy (56-0) 7-5 76. Colorado (37-14) 2-10 9. Auburn n/a 10-2 Now, Auburn's blowouts, just for fun... Rank Team Score Record 57. Wash. St. 40-14 6-6 61. Miss. St. 34-0 3-8 116. Buffalo 38-7 2-10 91. Tulane 38-13 4-8 112. Ark St. 27-0 6-6 As you can see, Nebraska has not blown out any team ranked higher than 76, and Auburn, 57. This is why I don't think this game will be a blowout. But you're free to have you're opinion. I just don't quite understand your reasoning.

Honestly, I couldn't have asked for more out of Nebraska fans. And I'm proud to call myself one after talking to yall. (But no, I'm still going for Auburn). I was almost scared to join the boards here because I didn't want to be disappointed like I have been with other teams this year (mostly LSU). Win or lose, I don't know if I could've picked a better team or fanbase to go up against. This has potential to be the best bowl game I've seen (and I was at the sugar bowl in 04).

I was talking to a couple Husker fans on the Auburn board and suggested perhaps seeing how many people we could get interested in meeting up and having a combined tailgate before the game in Dallas. They, in turn, suggested that I post it up here and run it by ya'll. So who would have some initial interest in getting something together where we could trade stories and talk some football before and perhaps after the game?

But as WarTim said, you always get some bad apples who feel that the best way to show their support is to throw things at the other team or make rude gestures, or even get in fights. I wish there was a way to keep people like this out of Auburn, but at the moment, they're there and there's nothing we can do about them. In our own defense, however, if you talk to a random Auburn fan in a friendly tone, chances are, they'll show you the same hospitality that Scott Van Pelt was shown in his trip to Auburn. Hey, tell me if I go to far, but this statement seems a little off to me. I mean, there's hoping for your team, and I even don't mind people saying that they'll win, but a blow out? I mean, losses to USC and Oklahoma aren't that bad, but OK State says something (the Texas game shouldn't have even been a loss so I don't count that). But Auburn's loss to UGA isn't very good either. But even losses aside, I don't know if Nebraskas really beaten any great teams this year. Good ones, yes, aTm, and TT, but I don't know if those teams quite compare to Florida and LSU this year. I'm not trying to say that Auburn is gonna blow out Nebraska, I'm just saying that if Nebraska does win, it'll most likely be within 14. Hell, I don't think Auburn would blow out Nebraska, although I'd give them 17 since the spread is 3 in Auburn's favor. Sorry if I seem defensive, but all week before the LSU game we had LSU fans making predictions of the likes of 45-3 and 30-0 in favor of LSU. And then they can't handle the loss. I just want to be able to have resonable discussions on this game. As for being in the SEC, yeah, its starting to look like that finally helps a team out, since the SEC is getting a good rep, but c'mon, the big XII northin isn't THAT underrated.
