  1. I think Dion Jordan is likely going to California. He is originally from Northern California, Dion Jordan and Marc Anthony probably have talked about going to the same school seeing as their list of schools looks the same, and he also has another teammate who plays for Cal in Cameron Jordan and Cameron's dad is the TE coach for Chandler high school.
  2. He went 15-29 with a passing percentage of 51.7%.
  3. Parkway West won 20-17. Blaine Gabbert had 195 yards passing and 22 yards rushing. He had 2 touchdowns (1 run and 1 pass) with no turnovers.
  4. Latest news from ESPN. The doctor who performed the operation on Kevin Everett told Buffalo TV station WIVB that Everett has voluntary movement of his arms and legs and is now optimistic that Everett will walk again.
  5. My prayers go out to Kevin and his family. Hopefully he will make a full recovery from this catastrophic injury.
  6. Arthur Brown cut his list down to 16 teams and plans to cut that list down to ten teams in the next two weeks. Here is the list of schools according to Rivals.com. Alabama, Auburn, California, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, LSU, Louisville, Miami, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rutgers, USC, and UCLA.
  7. If he comes to Nebraska he will likely play wide receiver.
  8. Here is an update on Deion Walker. It looks like Nebraska could be one of the 5 locations where Walker makes his official visits. http://recruiting.scout.com/2/675161.html Deion Walker, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound five-star wide receiver from Christchurch, Va., will be taking his first official visit this weekend (Sept. 8) to Penn State for the Notre Dame game. "I really like what Penn State has to offer," Walker said. "The environment is really good and it's a down-to-earth place. It's not too out of control and is a nice college town. I also really like the coaches and have a good relationship with coach Joe Paterno and his son Jay Paterno. They are real cool and tell it like it is." Walker, ranked as the No. 6 wide receiver in the country by Scout.com, also plans to visit Florida State on Oct. 6 when the 'Noles take on North Carolina State. "I think that Florida State is gonna do great this year," he said. "They always get great athletes and I think the new offense is really gonna benefit the team." Although it's not officially set yet, Walker says he'll most likely trip to USC in November and says he's really impressed with the Trojans. "They definitely find ways to spread the ball around," Walker said. "I didn't know what to expect from them this season and thought they looked really good. (Running back) Coach Todd McNair called me on Monday and he talked about how the quarterbacks are always looking to spread the ball around and how me and Brice Butler (wide receiver Trojan commit from Norcross, Ga.) could do a lot of damage there." In addition to USC, Walker says he received calls from coaches from Wake Forest, North Carolina State, LSU and Tennessee on Saturday (the first day that coaches were allowed to call recruits again). Walker, who has over 45 scholarship offers, says he still wide open, however he admits that "I've had a great time at Penn State, Florida State and LSU, but a lot of schools stand out." He also likes and is considering taking official visits to Nebraska and Notre Dame. "Nebraska really surprised me when I visited them," he said. "It's nothing but football there. I really liked that." Although he wasn't there in person, Walker said he did watch most of the Notre Dame loss to Georgia Tech. "It surprised me that they lost like that," Walker said. "But it showed that they need wide receivers and made me think that it might be a good place to be and do some things. They definitely tried to throw the ball, but are just having trouble moving it down the field. They will need receivers and their offense will only continue to get better." One team that really impressed Walker was LSU. "I think their defense is ridiculous," Walker said. "They are not gonna give up a lot of points no matter who they play. Also the offense is strong and they have some good wide receivers so they'll be able to put some points up. It's also a good situation because their receivers are all juniors and they'll need to reload next season." Walker's first game this season is on Sept. 7 against Christian Academy in Lynchburg, Va. "I really want to compare all the environments and see where I'll be able to fit into," he said. "I don't really have a preference for the type of campus or city or distance. I'd like to make a decision in early December because by then I'll have taken all my visits and seen all the schools I like. Right now, Penn State, Florida State and LSU have a slight lead." Walker reports a 3.2 core GPA and a 21 ACT.
  9. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=2&c=653825 Kyle Prater, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound outside linebacker from Tivy High School in Kerryville, Texas, now has eight offers, with the latest coming from Purdue. He continues to favor LSU and Oklahoma slightly over Nebraska and all three lead big over Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. All have offered the three-star prospect who is Scout.com's No. 63 prospect in the Southwest. "LSU and Oklahoma are so similar," Prater said. "It's the way they run their program and what their staff's are like. The defensive coordinator at LSU (Bo Pelini) was at both LSU Nebraska and Oklahoma before he was at LSU. Their coaches treat their players great and they play exciting schedules. "I would say that LSU is recruiting me the hardest," he said. "They keep in touch the most. Coach (Bradley) Peveto (linebackers) is my recruiting coach. He's a fun guy who also keeps players in line. "Oklahoma has a really great staff and they have had such a great record," Prater said. "I'm being recruited by Bobby Jack Wright (asst. head coach) and Brent Venables (asst. head coach). "Nebraska also has a good tradition and the state is crazy about football," he said. "I'm gonna visit them with my parents on June 26 or 27 and we'll stay through the weekend. I've already been to LSU and Oklahoma, which is probably why they are in the lead. They are both about eight or an eight and a half drive from home. I'm not going to any camps. "Nebraska's probably about 14 hours, which means I'd probably have to fly back and forth if I went there," Prater said. "They were the first school to offer me last September. "Oklahoma State is a cool place. I like coach Mike Gundy. "I went to a Texas Tech Junior Day last year," he said. "I know a lot of people there. It's close to home and I'd be comfortable there, but I might like to see a new place." "I'd like to decide before the season starts if I feel comfortable," Prater explained. "I don't know if I will though. "These schools want me for outside linebacker," he said. "I have the speed to get sideline-to-sideline but I only weigh about 215 now. I think I'll easily be able to put on twenty pounds in college. I ran a 4.4 forty at my high school not long ago. "I could also play baseball in college because I can throw in the nineties," Prater said. LSU is encouraging me to play both sports. I think I'm better in football and I'll sign for football, not baseball." Porter reports a 3.5 core GPA, a 1560 three-part SAT and a 1070 two-part SAT
  10. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=2&c=653101 Jamal Womble, the 5-foot-10, 215-pound three-star running back from Buena High School in Sierra Vista, Ariz., says he has approximately 15 scholarship offers. He's already scheduled two official visits as recently reported. Womble's first trip will be to Nebraska on September 16. "I'm talking with the coaches a lot," Womble said. "I like that they've been on the rise and getting back to where they used to be in the 90's. Also, I love their tradition." He's also planning on visiting South Carolina on November 24. "They've come on really hard recently," Womble said. "They said that if I commit they'll shut down the running back recruiting. I'm the number one back for them. I love the SEC and I like what coach Steve Spurrier has done since he's been there." This coming weekend (June 24), Womble will be attending the Notre Dame camp and he also plans to attend the North Carolina camp. "Both Notre Dame and North Carolina seem really interested," he said. "They really want to see me at camp and I think they'll probably offer. I love the tradition at Notre Dame and how they develop running backs. "Also, I'm from North Carolina and all my family lives there, so it would be like going home." Don't expect for Womble to make a decision any time soon. "I'll wait until after the season," he said. "It probably won't be until January. I'm gonna sit down with my parents and just be very systematic about it. We're going to list all the pros and cons and go through everything." Womble said he favors South Carolina and Nebraska slightly over Notre Dame, North Carolina and Arizona State. The Irish and Tar Heels have not offered him yet, but he also has offers from Wisconsin, Washington State, Purdue, Northwestern, Duke, Indiana, Illinois, Central Florida, Nevada, Utah, Boston College and Oregon State. "I'm going to take some unofficial visits to Duke, Wake Forest, North Carolina State and North Carolina during the summer," Womble said. He reports a 3.0 core GPA and a 1560 SAT.
  11. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=2&c=652711 Michael Shaw, the 6-foot, 187-pound three-star running back from Trotwood-Madison, Ohio, now has 24 scholarship offers and has narrowed his list to seven schools. Shaw, ranked No. 50 in the Midwest by Scout.com, denies a leader, but favors Tennessee, Penn State, Michigan, Iowa, Maryland, Clemson and Nebraska. All of his favorites have offered as well as Wake Forest, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Indiana, Illinois and several others. "I want to play for a team with good fan support," Shaw said. "I'd also like to play early and be able to fight for a spot, so the depth chart will be a factor. I don't care too much about distance or anything like that." Shaw doesn't plan to attend any camps this summer, but he will be taking a lot of unofficial visits. "This summer I plan to visit all my top schools, plus West Virginia," he said. "I probably won't make a decision until after I take a few visits and really get comfortable with the schools." The two programs that Shaw has already had chance to visit in person are Tennessee and Michigan. "I had a track meet at Tennessee a little while ago and it was really nice there," Shaw said. "They have a great track program too and are recruiting me for both sports. Also, they run a balanced offense and have produced a lot of good running backs that did well in the NFL. "Iowa has a good offense too and I like how they use their backs," he said. "I also like their coaches a lot and I think they are getting better and better." Shaw recently took an unofficial visit to Michigan. "It was amazing," Shaw exclaimed. "They are doing a great job with their program. They are always a winning team. Everyone there loves the team and there's a lot of team spirit. They don't have any pro teams there, so Michigan football is pretty much the marquee attraction." Shaw says he's very big on tradition and that's why Nebraska is on his short list of favorites. "Nebraska is just one of those schools that have that name," he said. "You know when you hear Nebraska football that means something special." He reports a 3.4 core GPA and a 1550 SAT.
  12. Jamal Womble has set up 2 official visits. He plans on visiting Nebraska for the USC game and has scheduled a visit with South Carolina on 11/23. His teammate Jake Muasau also plans on visiting Nebraska at the same time.
  13. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=2&c=649400 Sean Fisher, the 6-foot-5, 210-pound, three-star linebacker from Millard North High School in Omaha (Neb.) has doubled his amount of scholarship offers in the last two months, upping his total to 14. Some of Fisher's latest offers are from Colorado, Northwestern, Washington, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Arizona State and Wisconsin. "My feeling now is that I'd like to decide before our season gets going," he said. "I want to enjoy my senior season and not have this decision over my head." Fisher, ranked No. 21 in the midlands by Scout.com, continues to favor Nebraska, which he now says leads slightly over Oklahoma, Arkansas and Iowa State. He grew up following the Huskers but their large lead has taken somewhat of a hit with the recent influx of offers he's received. "There's more to consider now because I have a lot more schools that have offered me. But I still really like Nebraska. I talk with them frequently and like the coaches a lot. I talk with (linebacker) coach Kevin Cosgrove and (offensive line) coach Dennis Wagner a lot. I know them pretty well, especially coach Wagner because he was the one that first started recruiting me and has been with me since the beginning. I really like the whole staff though and just feel comfortable around them. They say that I'd make a good outside 'backer for them." He plans on attending the Huskers' camp this summer. Fisher visited both Oklahoma and Arkansas this past weekend. "I love the program at Oklahoma," Fisher said. "It's so well known. Everybody knows OU football. Coach Bob Stoops and his staff have done a great job. The main thing that stood out about the campus was how close everything was. Everything is just within a few blocks. All you need is right there. "I also got to talk with the coaches and (assistant head) coach Brent Venables went over their schemes with me and how I'd fit in and everything. We even got to watch some film together. "Arkansas was a nice place too," Fisher said. "They have great facilities and I really like talking with (head) coach Houston Nutt. He's just a really personable guy and easy to talk to." Fisher says he hopes to make a decision before the end of summer. "I've already been to Oklahoma and Arkansas and I know Nebraska really well too. I'd like to visit Iowa State one more time and talk to their coaches before I make my decision." He reports a 3.3 core GPA and has a 27 ACT.
  14. http://journalstar.com/blog/huskers.php Husker recruit Blaine Gabbert has been invited to the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback camp, to be held July 23-26 in Southern California. Some perspective: JaMarcus Russell, the first overall pick in this year's NFL Draft, attended the Elite 11 twice while in high school (once as a ballboy and once as a selected participant) and also returned as a college counselor this past summer. Said Gabbert: "I first learned about the Elite 11 in eighth grade I think when I saw the (2003) show on ESPN that had guys like Nate Longshore and Matt Tuiasosopo from that year. It looked like a great experience and I can remember thinking to myself, 'I want that to be me out there someday.'" Gabbert is the fifth quarterback to land an invitation. The others are Dayne Crist, 6-5, 228 of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; Mike Glennon, 6-6, 194 of Chantilly, Va.; Andrew Luck, 6-4, 210 of Houston; and E.J. Manuel, 6-4, 201 of Virginia Beach, Va.

  16. Brandon Beachem cut his list down to 10 teams and Nebraska made the cut. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=2&c=648141 With November as his deadline to commit, Brandon Beachum, the 6-foot, 214 pound linebacker from Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Ohio, has tentatively narrowed his list down to a top 10 (almost) from among 25 offers. “LSU, Florida State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Boston College, Wisconsin, Louisville, Stanford and North Carolina State are my top ten,” said the Scout.com four-star prospect. “And maybe Michigan State too. I’m still thinking about them and a couple of others.” With his latest offer coming last week from the Wolfpack, Beachum said he was ready to start trimming his list. “I’m graduating early, in January, so I want to commit by November at the latest. So I needed to start making some decisions. “I’m looking at these schools because they have all the aspects of what I want in a college—academics, programs, tradition and environment,” he added. “Most important is the level of education each of these schools offer. That’s my top priority. “North Carolina State is my 25th offer. I got the offer at school last week. Coach (Tom) O’Brien came to my school and I got to meet with him. He offered me right then. I was sort of surprised. I wasn’t expecting it at all. I already got the offer letter in the mail.” Ranked No. 20 in the Midwest by Scout.com, Beachum said that although he hasn’t decided on where he will take his official visits, he’s hoping to make Stanford one of the five. “I’m really interested in Stanford,” said Beachum, who reports a 3.3 core GPA and a 19 ACT. “Their quality of academics is the best in the country. Coach (D.J.) Durkin (defensive ends/special teams) talks a lot. He gives me advice on what I need to do to make sure I get accepted academically. He says as far as GPA goes, I’m good, but I need to have more advanced classes on my transcript. “I just changed my entire schedule around for next year to make sure I have all the required classes,” he added. “I’m also planning to retake my ACT in June.” Beachum admits that if he meets Stanford’s academic requirements, they would definitely be a serious contender. “I can’t give them an exact place right now, but if I did qualify for admission, they would move up really high on my list for sure.” Thinking of majoring in business, the stand-out defender says that environment will play a bigger role than depth in making his decision. “I think you can find top programs and great coaches wherever you go, but this is somewhere that I’m going to have to live for four years. I want to make sure I like where I’m at. “Depth is not really an issue for me,” he added. “I mean, don’t get me wrong, it would be great to see some play time as a freshman. But anywhere I go, I’m going to have to earn my position no matter if there’s one guy or ten guys ahead of me. In the end, it’s all the same.” One offer Beachum is still yet to receive is from Michigan. “I don’t know why they haven’t offered,” he said. “I know they’re interested. I talk to them a lot and they tell me how much they like me and want me to come to their camp coming up this summer. “I like Michigan because they are a big program that is close to me. I have offers from big-time schools that are eight, ten hours away, but Michigan is just three hours from me. I don’t think I’m going to their camp though. I'm pretty much done with that. I think I’ve done enough. “My dad is really helping me in narrow things down,” Beachum said. “Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, I’ll have a better idea of my favorites and know where I want to take my officials (visits). I’m really
  17. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=2&c=647087 Spencer Ladner, the 6-foot-7, 240-pound tight end from Pembroke Hill High School in Kansas City (Mo.) says he has approximately 18 scholarship offers - with three that stand out. This Scout.com three-star prospect, ranked No. 18 in the midlands, favors California, Wisconsin and Michigan solidly over Oklahoma and Nebraska. All five have offered as well as Clemson, Iowa, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Kansas State and Virginia. "I'd like to commit this summer," Ladner said. "It's getting pretty hectic and I'd rather get it out of the way. I plan to spend a lot of June taking unofficial visits. I'll go to California, Michigan and Wisconsin for sure. There's also a chance I'll visit Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa and Clemson." So far, he's only visited Wisconin, when he attended their spring game. Ladner says he grew up following Kansas because both his parents were Jayhawks and his dad, Dale, played forward on the Kansas basketball team. "They don't really push me there," he said. "They think it's my decision. "I'm going to be looking at the academics, atmosphere, facilities, offense and playing time," Ladner said. "Those are the five main things I'll focus on. "I like Cal because of their academics," he said. "They are one of the most prestigious schools in the country academically and their football program is still on the rise. They've really been among the elite recently. "Michigan also has really good academics and playing in front of 110,000 people every weekend would be amazing. That's very appealing to me. "Oklahoma and Nebraska are great programs too," Ladner said. "They are always competing for the Big 12 and I like their style of play. I've always liked the Big 12 and they are big-time programs." Ladner comes from a good athletic family, as his brother, Ben Ladner, plays tight end for Stanford. "He told me not to commit to the coaches," Ladner said. "He says that coaches can come and go, but to choose the school for the school itself." In addition to all the attention Ladner is getting for football, he's also being recruited for basketball, where he averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds per game. "I'm not going to do both though," he said. "I'm only playing football." Ladner finished his junior season with 620 yards receiving for 11 touchdowns. He also threw for an additional three touchdowns. Ladner benches 315 pounds and has a 30-inch vertical jump. "I have good hands and hand-eye coordination," Ladner said. "I'm also really fast and agile for my size. I played wide receiver in high school too and I'm very physical and elusive. "I'd like to improve my blocking while playing tight end." Ladner says he runs the forty in 4.65. At the Kansas City Scout.com combine, he clocked a 4.81. He reports a 2.2 core GPA and a 1070 SAT. "I go to a really demanding private school," Ladner said. "I'm not trying to make excuses, it's just that I'm not very proud of my GPA."
  18. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=2&c=646754 Wes Kemp, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound wide receiver from DeSmet Jesuit High School in St. Louis (Mo.), now has a total of 10 scholarship offers with his latest coming from Indiana and Michigan State. Along with the Hoosiers and Spartans, he also has offers from Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ole Miss and Nebraska. Although he remains "very open", he says his top three are Wisconsin, Nebraska and Illinois. Those three have a solid lead over Missouri, Mississippi, Kansas State and Michigan State. "I also like Michigan a lot too, but they haven't offered," Kemp said. "They'd probably be in my top five if they offered. I love the whole school and that they are a powerhouse every year. They love to pass the ball and always produce great wide receivers. They were at my school not too long ago and I think they will offer me." Kemp, a Scout.com four-star recruit who is also ranked as the Midlands No. 12 overall prospect, doesn't plan on attending any camps this summer, but he will be taking unofficial visits. "I'll visit Mississippi, Nebraska and Missouri for sure," Kemp said. "I'll have my for-sure top five set this summer and those are the ones that I will visit officially in the fall. I really want to go where I can compete and possibly play early. I'll probably commit after the season ends, in early December." He says that Illinois is recruiting him the hardest. "I get a lot of text messages from them," he said. "They also send me the most mail. They keep in contact with me about my summer plans and definitely want me to visit them officially." One of the schools that Kemp is planning on visiting this summer is Nebraska. "They have like four of the top 100 offensive lineman recruits already committed and that's great news for the quarterback," Kemp said. "They also have a top quarterback and throw the ball a lot. They always bring in top players, plus their facilities are second to none. They are a perennial powerhouse and I get along well with coach (recruiting coordinator) Kevin Cosgrove. Coach Cos is really fired-up and an electric guy. I really want to get to know the rest of the coaches too." He reports a 3.1 core GPA and a 19 ACT.
  19. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=2&c=646332 Brandon Leslie, the 6-foot, 195 pound safety from Edison High School in Fresno, Calif., says his recruiting started picking up since attending the Nike camp at Stanford earlier this month. Air Force and Nevada has recently offered. But according to the four-star prospect, it was Notre Dame that was the most impressed with his performance. “The Notre Dame coaches were at the camp and were really impressed with my size and they way I could move, said Leslie, who is ranked No. 53 in the West by Scout.com. “They said that I could maybe play corner for them and that an offer could be coming, which is huge because they don’t need safeties, but they do need cornerbacks. That’s why they haven’t offered yet. “I went to their spring game last month and they told me they were really interested, but that they just had a safety commit, so they wanted to wait and watch more tape to see if I could play corner. They came out to the camp to watch me and they were happy, so I'm hoping there’s an offer soon. “It was great at Notre Dame,” he said. “I was really impressed with their fan support. It was incredible. The fans are crazy there. All these people wanted my autograph. I couldn’t believe it! I really liked the coaches and the campus was really cool. They have a tradition that’s like nothing else. I know if I got an offer, I would definitely have to take a serious look about going there.” Leslie, who now has seven offers, says Nebraska, Arizona, Washington, Georgia Tech and Notre Dame are still his top five, Earlier this month, he said he favored Nebraska. Now he denies a favorite and all have offered except the Irish. “Everyone’s pretty much even right now,” Leslie said. “Nebraska was my favorite because they were the first to offer me and show me love, but a lot of schools have offered since, so I have a lot more options then I did before. “I’m still really interested in Nebraska. I know I’m the only safety they are recruiting, which is a huge thing for me. I’m planning on taking a trip to there and Georgia Tech next month. Along with Notre Dame, I’m getting the most love from Nebraska and Georgia Tech. “Georgia Tech has four safeties leaving this year,” Leslie said. “Coach (Chan) Gailey and Coach ‘BJ’ (Brian Jean-Mary) are great. I talk to them a lot. I know if I came in and did my job, I could see some early play time there.” Arizona and Washington have also been courting the stand-out defender. “They both are definitely in my top five,” Leslie said. “ My best friend, Robert Golden (cornerback), just committed to Arizona and it would be cool to play with him in college. But Arizona is pretty deep at safety and I wouldn’t be able to play anytime soon. “Washington really needs corners and I really like the coaching staff there,” he said. “Coach J.D Williams and I have known each other for a while and it would be great to play for him and Coach (Tyrone) Willingham. And I really like the Pac-10, being from California.” Leslie says he wants to commit after his trips to Nebraska and Georgia Tech. “I don’t know if I’m going to take any official visits or not. It just depends on if I make my decision after seeing Nebraska and Georgia Tech. I think I’m going to commit by September at the latest. I really just want to get this whole recruiting business over and done with so I can focus on school and the season.” Leslie reports a 3.3 core GPA and plans on taking the SAT in June.
  20. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=2&c=646076 Eric Smith, the 5-foot-11, 225-pound running back from Armwood High School in Seffner (Fla.), says he has approximately 20 scholarship offers, including Auburn, Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Miami, Tennessee, Nebraska and several others. Smith, ranked No. 56 in the Southeast by Scout.com, says he's still open, but favors Auburn slightly over Clemson, Florida, Ohio State and Nebraska. "I love the type of offense that Auburn runs," Smith said. "They use two backs and they told me that they are looking for a freshman to come in and play right away. I like the coaches a lot, plus they are always highly ranked." He plans on attending the Tigers camp this summer and will most likely attend the Florida camp as well. The Gators were Smith's first offer last September. "I like the intensity all the players have," Smith, a Scout.com three-star recruit, said. "Even at practice they all go really hard. They have a lot of great players and I like the coaches a lot too." Two schools on Smith's list that he'd like to visit are Ohio State and Nebraska. "I like the type of football that Nebraska plays," he said. "They run the ball a lot and the coaches are really good and have great experience. Also, they told me they need to fill some spots and that I could probably play early. "I like the type of players that Ohio State produces," Smith said. "They send a lot of guys to the League." While the Gators have offered, in-state rival Florida State has not. "They already have a running back committed and they probably aren't taking any more this year," Smith said. Smith has a brother that attends Florida State, but he's not playing any sports. "I'm still pretty open, but it'll come down to the depth chart and if I can see myself playing early or not," Smith admitted. "Player-coach relationships are also going to be really important for me. I want to see how they interact and not just the starters. I want to talk to the guys that aren't starting and see what it's like for them. "Me, my mom and my coach will all sit down at the end of the summer and narrow it down to five schools and those will be the ones I'll visit," Smith said. Smith missed most of his junior season with a fractured left elbow. In four games he had 550 yds rushing and 12 touchdowns. He benches 325 pounds, squats 545 and has a 30-inch vertical jump. "I have good size and good field speed," he said. "My forty time isn't the fastest (4.6), but I'm fast when I play. People underestimate my speed a lot and that helps me surprise them. I'm a good guy up the gut, north-south type runner. "I definitely want to improve my forty speed," Smith said. "And I'm also working on my pass blocking." He reports a 2.8 core GPA and took the SAT on May
  21. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=204&p=2&c=645409 C.J. Cox, short for Chanton Jerrard Cox, is the 5-foot-11, 190-pound safety from North Garland High School in Garland, Texas. Cox finished his junior season with 81 tackles, two interceptions and three fumbles caused. He benches 230 pounds, squats 500 and has a 31-inch vertical jump. "I'm a big hitter and can stop the run," Cox said. "I lock down on my zone and cover good. I play close to the line and am always looking for the big hit. "I want to improve my foot speed and get my 40 time down from 4.6," he said. "I also want to improve my breaking to the ball and footwork." Cox has offers from Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Wisconsin, Fresno State and Rice, but his favorite school is Oklahoma and the Sooners haven't offered yet. "If Oklahoma offers me, I'll commit," Cox said. "I'd like to make my decision during the summer and I'm going to their camp so hopefully they'll offer. They said that they really want to see me in person and that coach Bob Stoops wants to evaluate me at their camp. "Every since I was a little kid I loved Oklahoma," Cox said. "I loved watching them play and they were always playing in BCS bowls or for the national championship. I've been there before and I love the atmosphere. I just love how enthusiastic and loud it gets during the games. Everyone just has a lot of fun there." Cox's parents also like the Sooners. "They really like their academics and how much academic support they have." The Sooners lead big over Nebraska, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State and Louisville. The Huskers were the first school to offer Cox. "Nebraska has been a powerhouse for a long time," he said. "They just know how to win. They have great tradition and it's one of those programs that everybody likes. I like how coach Bill Callahan has brought in an NFL-style defense and that really prepares the players well for the next level. "I really want to play in a good environment and with coaches that help their players get better," Cox said. "I want to play with guys that are happy to be there and want to succeed." He reports a 3.0 core GPA and is waiting on his May 5 SAT results.
