  1. I watched Klobuchar's speech, and she says a vague stuff about how we should be better but I didn't see anything about policies. Same thing on her website. Anybody know what she's running on?
  2. I edited my post. California has some stupid laws.
  3. According to this site, that's not illegal in California. Edit: Looks like I'm reading that wrong. There's differing punishments, but there's no close in age exceptions in California.
  4. There's an age differential in most statutory rape laws (all the states I saw as I skimmed this site). For example, if the ages are within 2 or 3 years of each, then it's not illegal.
  5. It was me because of the first sentence in that post: "I'm guessing many of the people throwing around the label trying to force it to tell the entire story are grown ups who watch 18 year old porn stars." You're usually pretty good about making reasonable arguments but that's just a good old ad hominem. Maybe the eye roll would have been more appropriate.
  6. I put this in the leftist thread, but it applies here for how the GND could be funded:
  7. David Pakman gives a dozen or so different ways for government to raise money for progressive ideas (although these could be used for raising money for any idea):
  8. There's something like a dozen candidates in the race and only Harris has had her own townhall that I'm aware of.
  9. Kamala Harris is getting a lot of the big money donations and CNN already let her have her own town hall, so she seems like the main establishment candidate unless Biden runs.
  10. I know there's some people versed in Title IX on the board. Should the university have done anything else under Title IX when they found out about the incident? I seem to remember there being rules about requiring an investigation and reporting to the feds, but I know the details matter quite a bit.
  11. All of the above. I think he intended to be terrible and atrocious and he reacted in a moment of carelessness and did a bad thing.
  12. I think that's a pretty good policy, but I'm not talking about that here.
  13. This isn't a good argument as it can be applied to literally anything any player did before he was a member of the team. Kicking him off the team is what I think the punishment should be if he indeed did it. But suspend him for a few games is what kids that skip class or don't make grades get, so it seems light to me.
  14. What the legal system does is separate from what the team and the university does.
  15. What I'm saying is that if he sent that, even if he didn't know about the sexual assault part, it's still a terrible act. The fact he might have been acting out of anger or jealousy or whatever might make it more relatable, but it doesn't make it any less atrocious. And I'm deliberately making the hypothetical because I'm pushing back against the notion that it's no big deal even if he did it, which is separate from whether he sent the text or not. Getting kicked off the Husker team is not life ruining. As we've seen over and over, he'll many other chances from other schools.
  16. Then we're going to have to greatly disagree.
  17. There's nothing she could have said to him that warranted the kind of response that involves revenge porn.
  18. WTF? So saying rude things to ex girlfriends is the same as sending explicit sexual videos of the ex to them?
  19. Forget the rape or sexual assault or legal aspects for a moment. If Mo sent the text, then he sent a sex video in order to humiliate this girl. Is that not enough for him to be kicked off the team?
  20. The legal system differentiates between adults and minors, and the crime is a misdemeanor, so I think it's probably ok the way it's written, but we'll see.
  21. As in you think he shouldn't be kicked off the team or he won't be kicked off the team?
  22. You think they've all got child porn on their phones?
  23. Depends on what Frost does and has done. So far as we know the coaches found out about the allegations last fall, and they haven't done anything yet.
