  1. Here were the safeties from last year: 3 O'Hanlon, Matt S 5-11 200 Sr. Bellevue, Neb. (Bellevue East) 04 Asante, Larry S 6-01 215 Sr. Alexandria, Va. (Coffeyville Community College) (Hayfield) 43 Moravec, Brent S 6-00 185 RFr. Grand Island, Neb. (Central Catholic) 32 Ebke, Jim S 6-00 210 So. Lincoln, Neb. (South Dakota State) (East) 13 Smith, P.J. S 6-02 210 RFr. River Ridge, La. (John Curtis) 28 Hagg, Eric S 6-02 205 Jr. Peoria, Ariz. (Ironwood) 29 Jameson, Seth S 6-01 180 Fr. Southlake, Texas (Southlake Carroll) 12 Osborne, Courtney S 6-03 195 RFr. Garland, Texas (South Garland) 03 Thenarse, Rickey S 6-00 205 Sr. Los Angeles, Calif. (Jordan) 08 Cassidy, Austin S 6-01 210 So. Lincoln, Neb. (Southwest) That breaks down for 2010 as: 0-1 Fr (depends on Cooper) 1 RFr (assuming redshirt) 3 So 2 Jr 2 Sr (assuming Thenarse is back) So 2011 looks like: ?? Fr 0-1 RFr 1 So (or 2 if Cooper comes and doesn't RS) 3 Jr 2 Sr So how many safeties will the coaches want to bring in for 2011? I'd guess 3 (2-4 seems right). In fact having Marsh commit so early means we have a safety blanket that even if we were to strikeout with every other prospect, we've got at least 1 guy. That means the coaches can go after the most desirable recruits and can afford to wait until late in the process for them to commit. I can't see a single reason why the coaches would not take Marsh if this is the case.
  2. Nobody thinks Cranes is coming. If you actually meant Carnes, then there's a really good chance he may come. I'm basing that on his comments after the visit that he could see himself at NU. This is the second thread where you're pushing that "Cranes" isn't coming. Either give a good reason or, even better, a link to new information, or nobody is going to take you seriously.
  3. This post kind of bothered me for some reason. I live in Kansas City...deal with KU football fans on a nearly daily basis. Finding one that can even name the starting QB is rare, but they sure think their sh** don't stink. This post was just overflowing with the same type of ego. We are NOT in a position as a program where we are able to make 25 offers to the best players and expect all 25 to be committed 8 months before signing day. To say that if he doesn't commit - "we didn't want him in the first place" - is beyond ignorant. (with all due respect) I'd rephrase the op to say, "If he doesn't come to NU, then we're better off without him." An example of the other way around is Darrell Scott going to CU. He gave them a 5 star player in their recruiting class, but never really wanted to be there and put in the effort required. So he wasted a schollie for them, produced chemistry issues within the team, and then gave them bad pr on his way out the door. This is just a counter-example to get my point across.
  4. I think we cooled on Carter but not Hill. Could be wrong though.
  5. Ah yes, Simi Kuli. The "can't miss", "must have" recruiting favor of the month a couple years ago. Man I'm glad we didn't continue recruiting that guy.
  6. Or is scout trying to sell more subscriptions.
  7. Thanks for that. I obviously knew the NU part, but I couldn't place the DO.
  8. And those of us who think the stars are bunk can't convince the star worshipers either. Recruiting rankings are first and foremost a business. simple as that. I think we all realize that "5 stars doesn't mean greatness", that it's inexact, and that of course, business and other motivations are factored in. But if this is being presented as an argument that 'stars are bunk', it's really uninspiring. It's saying, "42% of 5-stars are successes." Compared to...? 15% of 4-stars? 5% of 3-stars? The argument being used to support the thesis actually flies in its face. I'm not trying to form a "good" argument against stars. I'm just showing that the poster I replied to has an equally uninspiring statement. As several others, on both sides of the argument, have said, there's not much point continuing to argue as neither side is doing much to convince the other.
  9. Or maybe we could convince lsu freak to photo shop cricks head on rick astley's body for the video and have Bo as the bartender who does the back flip. DT Crick/Rome DT Baker DE Ankrah DE OWA
  10. And those of us who think the stars are bunk can't convince the star worshipers either. Recruiting rankings are first and foremost a business. simple as that.
  11. There were a couple of times this year where Larry Asante got banged up and PJ Smith came in with little to no drop off. PJ will be a different type of safety and not quite the head hunter like Asante was, which I believe is good and bad. I think PJ will look more like a Josh Bullocks at Safety. Also with Ankrah just remember by the end of last season he was getting reps in practice with the #1 defense. He was definitely brought in to play right away but couldn't get the playbook down at the start of the season so they red shirted him. I believe about mid season he finally got it but the coaches weren't gonna burn a full year for a few games. We'll see but theres no reason to really down grade these guys on their "hype" we do it every year, we're just being fans... I think Ankrah also got dinged up in fall camp which set him back.
  12. I'm glad you like it, but I can take absolutely no credit. I've seen it many times on various message boards. I believe the posters with over 1000 posts on this board "earn" that title (somebody correct me on that). And, as any good teller of tall tales will tell you, don't explain the name to your buddies and let them think you came up with it yourself. (I would have let you assume I created it here, but too many other posters would be onto me.)
  13. Is the "Sean Fisher" hype anything like saying "i feel like Ankrah starts over Meredith"?
  14. Everyone note it's THE Crick Roll. And now we can say opponents got CrickRolled. Somebody needs to create a youtube video of Crick highlights with the RickRolled song on it.
  15. Don't forget that NU ran from some spread formations towards the end of TO's tenure and again some during Solich's early years. What I'd really like to see is the ability to lineup in some power formations and then spread formations without changing personnel. Maybe somthing that could take advantage of all the TE's we have. Remember that TO was responsible for changing the NU offense as OC under the Bobfather and then did it again while he was the HC. This could be the precursor to some revolutionary changes in the offense. But this is very speculative. Edit: fixed the incorrect quoting.
  16. Wahington would be a good fit for the Wildcat formation. And with his size, he could even lineup outside to block and occasionally catch.
  17. I don't have a lot to go on, but I'd pick Cotton based on his measurables (6'7" 265).
  18. Here's one people aren't talking about - Thenarse replacing O'Hanlon. And Austin Cassidy could very well be the next O'Hanlon (aka a quality walk-on player who makes an easy scapegoat for the fans and media).
  19. I think they learned their lesson from this whole taking it easy part of july and august. I think the has alread hit the ground for 2011. Too bad the fans didn't learn a lesson. Like maybe the coaches need some time off and recruiting didn't seem to suffer.
  20. I'm going to wait and see how this thing plays out before getting all worked up about it. He might take a greyshirt offer from NU over a schollie from KU, you never know.
  21. My main reason for expecting improvement is getting 4 OL starters back and 10 starters back overall. I don't think you can overemphasize how important returning experience is, especially on the OL.
