  1. Who employed him? Was he not in a position of authority in his capacity as a coach? It's inappropriate for a person to use their position of authority to evangelize. It's not OK from a lowly bus driver for an elementary school, much less a teacher / coach. I dare say that Ron Brown could have counseled the young men in his charge in a secular manner and you would have no problems with that but once he includes his faith, that's when the outrage begins. Take a minute and think - really think - about what you just said. He was employed by a secular institution that is a part of a secular state to instruct student athletes. Explain why I would have an issue with a person in that position instructing in a "secular manner?" For some people, you cannot remove faith from their discourse, because their faith is at the very foundation of their being, and it informs everything they think, say and do. This tends to bother a lot of people, though. And the people you describe don't belong in those positions.

  3. Fundamentalists have an almost pathological need to feel like they're being persecuted, and they invent it when there is none. An authority of the state? He was a running backs coach. His evangelizing wasn't crap. Overdone? perhaps. Depends on who you ask. But make no mistake that he made players better. The proof was on the field every Saturday. Who employed him? 4. That interview reinforced my feelings about Brown. He's a good coach, but that sort of evangelizing crap isn't appropriate as an authority of the state. I'm glad he's gone, and I wish he'd been jettisoned by the university years ago. Fundamentalists have an almost pathological need to feel like they're being persecuted, and they invent it when there is none.
  5. I thought the best thing about it was that the larger view of the game was typically a wide shot where you could see the entire play develop. I'd pay money to be able to see every game from that view. The commentary was good, though I would have liked less Dan Mullen. The quality of his commentary was fine, but he dominated things too much. There were a few times when Luginbill or Spielman would directly ask another coach a question, and Mullen would jump in and talk over the other coaches. There was similar coverage on ESPN News with a bunch of their in-house analysts that was also pretty decent. Between the two, I didn't watch the main feed at all.
  6. It is possible that it is located in parts that you don't have access to. Is there some super secret section that my rivals access cannot see?
  7. Except for the part where it isn't just a message board fantasy. My apologies if I've simply missed it, but I haven't seen anything substantive that indicates the story is anything other than a rumor. Is there a source that I should see? It was reported by the guys at HuskerOnline. I stand by my comment. I can find nothing substantive on HuskerOnline other than the same rumor floating on their forums. I can't seem to find anything resembling reporting on the subject from from Callahan or anyone else. Until I can see something beyond message board chatter, it's a fantasy as far as I'm concerned.

  9. I don't think it's a stretch to think people making hires always try to make it look like they got their first choice. It's also not a stretch to think that this message board fantasy of Brown being offered the job and turning it down was equal parts BS and wishful thinking by Brown's fanboy contingent. Riley needs to have the staff around him that he wants, that he's comfortable with. The only reason Brown should have stayed is if Riley felt that he was a good fit into the philosophy and chemistry of his staff. If he's not, as is apparently the case, that's just fine with me. Personally, I'm glad he's gone.
  10. Muschamp to Auburn wasn't just out of the blue, though. He had a previous stint there as DC and has remained popular with people around that program. I'm not particularly thrilled at the Riley hire, but am OK with giving him and his staff a chance. Given the way some of you act, though, I wonder how many of you have ever paid any attention to coaching changes across the country. What's happening with Riley's staff is completely normal and to be expected by anyone other than those with a delusional expectation that he'll hire a staff of people he doesn't know.
  11. FootballScoop Staff ‏@FootballScoop Extremely relevant RT @darrenrovell: There is not a non-disparagement clause in Bo Pelini’s contract w/Nebraska that can affect his buyout Football scoop is viable now? No, but they're just retweeting here. The source, Darren Rovell, is pretty trustworthy.
  12. Well before Chryst, he hired Todd Graham who is clearly a good coach, and he wasn't forced out. Unfortunately, Graham has a history of being a bit of a rolling stone, and that bit Pedey in the ass.
  13. Why would they be afraid he'd he leave his job as the HC at Pitt to be an OC here? I can see him upgrading to a better HC gig, but taking a step backwards and reducing his annual salary by more than half doesn't make any kind of sense. The fear was he would be fired as HC at Pitt for going 6-7, 7-6 and 6-6 then reunited with now HC Riley at Nebraska as his OC again. People worried about that aren't following things at PItt too closely. That football program is a complete dumpster fire under Steve Pederson's regime. Chryst could go 3 and 9 and would probably still be safe just so they could have something resembling stability. Chryst is likely to jump ship to another HC job just to get out of that mess, though, whether that's Wisconsin or another opportunity.

  15. Yeah, I don't really hold the KU results against him too much. That place was a giant mess, and he was the least of its problems. I just don't think he's an upgrade to Pelini, and that something that SE really needs to deliver. You just can't say that Pelini isn't good enough and then turn around and hire someone like Gill.
  16. I'm sorry, but anyone that thinks Frost will ever come here in anything other than a HC capacity is delusional. He'll likely have opportunities this year and next to step into a HC role somewhere. Making a lateral move to NU isn't going to happen. As for Gill, settling for him would represent a complete failure on the part of SE.
  17. yeah. Breath. Lol Im so emotionally invested in this school tgat this feeling of division aggrevates me more than callahan and petersen. Serious. And exhale And you want to talk about mental toughness of these kids? You sound like you're one player tweet away from a breakdown.
  18. a gun to your head and you spew out this? there will be an announcement as soon as possible to get a start on recruiting. if there is nothing announced until after the bowl games we're as good as f'd. Agreed. Unless SE manages to completely Pederson this search, there's no way they wait on an announcement until January. I'd be shocked if we hear anything until after this weekend's games are in the books, though.
  19. We have a Christian head coach now. The problem would be Brown's own well documented intolerance, not that of others.
  20. I've kept this image from our last game against them on my phone(s) over the years because it always makes me smile.
  21. I thought the same thing, and then tonight Rece Davis was fawning over Ameer on College Football Final. They named his TD reception their play of the day and gave him a helmet sticker.
  22. I googled just the teams in the Big Ten and SEC and 20 out of 28 teams have an OC/QB coach combination. Mizzou and Texas A&M have assistant coaches in charge of QB's, Minn and Penn State have passing game coordinators coach QB's, Michigan State has their recruiting coordinator coach QB's, South Carolina and Vandy have coaches fully focused on QB's, and Rutgers does not have a coach listed in charge or QB's. A different sample yields similar results. Of the teams that finished in the BCS Top 25, three had dedicated QB coaches (FSU, MSU, South Carolina), Missouri's QB coach also held the Associate HC title which effectively brings the total to 4. Twenty had OC/Co-OCs coaching QBs, and one, Stanford, had one coach dividing time between QB, WR and RC duties.
  23. It was neither pithy nor sarcastic. It was a mea culpa and a joke, because this thread is going on and on and on with ever greater amounts of hyperbole and I'm tired of the discussion. To my knowledge I've never said Bo was "hostile" to fans. I started this thread off by saying he could show more of the side of his personality that he shows to players and parents to the fans. I really didn't think that was such a controversial statement, but either it was or people are just desperate to discuss something, staring down the barrel of nine months of next to no Husker football. I've discussed my interactions with Bo in another thread, which you clearly read based on your knees/coffee shop post. I neither care to give other examples nor do I really care to continue this discussion. I apologize for calling Bo a bloated warthog, and I bid you a good day. I read them when you first posted about them years ago, and referenced them yesterday in the same thread before you did. I've not said that you described Pelini as being hostile - I chose to use the word hostile to describe the complaints by several users, not just you, about Bo's attitude towards the the fans. If anyone else feels like giving some specifics as to how his behavior is hostile or antagonizing (I think that's tfree's description) to the fans, I'd love to hear them.
  24. bham...I don't think Knapp is saying Bo is a d******d because of his talks with him. He is just pointing out that he wasn't very personable which has been stated by others that have met him. And that's exactly what I said before - not being as personable as someone thinks he should be doesn't mean the guy's being a dick.
  25. No one was hanging you upside down from a window. I was well aware that it wasn't a serious response, but it was still a pithy, sarcastic response needling those that are simply asking for some evidence to support the idea that Pelini is hostile to the fans. And equally seriously, it's not just you, even though I chose yours as the message to reply to. There are plenty in this thread that have claimed he's been a dick or antagonized the fans, but precious little in the way of actual specifics. That's all I'm looking for, and frankly the closest (other than the leaked audio) I've gotten to a specific complaint is that he wasn't warm enough to you at the coffee shop.
