  1. If you've seen any video's of Mendoza, you'd be excited about him returning kicks. The guy's not only fast, but he gets going in no time at all. He pretty much takes a step and he's top speed. And he's shifty, and just strong enough to slip a couple of tackles if they don't get a good angle on him. I'm really excited for Mendoza, probably more then any other player in this class.
  2. Oh, I agree. I wasn't trying to argue the merits of Billingsley over the AP or something. I just wanted to let everyone know that this wasn't some guy's ranking. I also have always wondered why points given up by a second team defense count the same as those given up by first team defenses, but hey, look at that list. How accurate do you really think it is?
  3. The Billingsley poll is a long standing statistical analysis, similar to Sagarin. "He" didn't place teams based on opinion or who would want to read what. It's just a statistical analysis. Here: http://www.cfrc.com/Archives/In_Search_of.htm A little explanation. It's been surprisingly accurate, probably more so then all of the others over such a long period (part of the reason it's been around for about 40 years). Also, it, along with Sagarin, and a couple others, make up the "computer" polls of the BCS.
  4. Bill C has said he doesn't want to play them (Holt, Henry, etc.) because he wants to give them time to really develop. Nunn and Hardy didn't really have that and that's why they've gotten less productive. They were forced to go out their and be the guy right away without becoming sound in their fundementals, which is why they drop some easy passes (while at the same time making really good catches). Also, Purify will be a monster next year. He didn't get to NU until right before the season, and already he lead the team in Receiving yards. Next year, with time to learn his route running better and develop more of a report with the QB, he will be unstoppable.
  5. I think he could work well at the Jets. Pennington doesn't have the greatest arm in the world. In fact, I almost think Taylor's might be better for short yardage. Pennington can lob one deeper then Taylor, but he never seems to be able to rocket one into tight spots like Taylor can.
  6. I see. Ali Babba's is way better in my opinion. I didn't even know that other one was called anything but the Gourmet Grill. I though everyone meant Crawdaddy's because the guy who runs it used to run Georges Red Pepper Grill in the North Bottoms, and everyone I know simply calls Crawdaddy's "Georges."
  7. Wings at the Watering Hole are a must, especially if you get them grilled. Also, on Sunday, get 25c taco's at Crawdaddy's (is this the Georges you guys keep referring to? I didn't know they served gyro's, although I wonder how they could possibly beat the gyro's at Ali Babba's on 14th st). The P.O. Pears signature burger (I can't remember exactly what it's called) is pretty special. It has peanut butter on it, which is totally wierd but also incredibly awesome. Oh, and Yia Yia's pizza is fantastic. It has great food, and the largest selection of boutique beers I've ever seen. Only place in town where you can buy a $25 bottle of beer if you're so inclined. Pretty much any kind of beer you want, they have. Most of them are in bottles, not on tap, but their quality more than makes up for this. In some cases, Yia Yia's is the only place in the midwest where you can get these beers.
  8. Also, see Tommie "absolutely nobody can tackle me" Frazier, who grew up in Florida.
  9. I like Taylor as much as the next guy, but he was a pretty easy Quarterback to figure out. He simply checked down from his one guy to his two guy and so on until he found someone open. Occasionally he could make plays happen but not all the time. What I'd like to see from Keller is a Quarterback who can fake teams out with his reads, looking down to one reciever and then quickly going to another. He's got (reportedly) a very quick release, which should make this easier. I think this more than anything would improve our passing game. A rocket arm is good but we shouldn't need to go deep that often. We should be more worried about gaining somewhere between 5 to 15 yards with most passing plays, enough to keep the defense honest and worried while still killing lots of clock on our way to the endzone (clock control is a big part of the WCO). So, if we have a QB who can fake out DB's who are trying to read his eyes, we can increase our productivity quite a bit. Of course, wide reciever's who could get seperation against some of the faster defeneses and who don't drop easy passes (*cough*nunn*cough*) would be key, and hopefully will see some moves in that direction with some of the incoming players and improvment in the current roster.
  10. Joes Ganz isn't so bad, he just doesn't have a lot of experience. Remember, Taylor made a lot of mistakes his first year. My only hope is that next year, we get enough of a comfortable lead against our weaker opponents that we can throw in Ganz or Lee or Davis or whoever to get them some experience. Otherwise, we could be looking at an untested QB in 08 (which wouldn't be the end of the world, but I'd like us to have someone who's seen real game speed calling the shots).
  11. Shanle's problem is that he always tries to strip the ball instead of tackling. He needs to learn to just level people, and if he hits hard enough, the ball's going to come out. Is this a problem with him or the coaches? None of us know, because not one of us knows how the coaches work with him in practice, what they tell him, whether or not they try and stress getting the tackle over getting the strip. However, I sincerely doubt the coaches are telling him to try and strip the ball. I imagine that he is simply doing what many other people have done before him; trying to make something happen when he should just be doing his job.
  12. Oh god...not more 'conspiracy theory' claims. Get over it. Back to the comment about it being suspicious that they'd do the last 12 years (after NU's domination) is because it was pretty well stated in their previous 'all-time playoffs' that NU's Mid-90 run was the best of all time. It's a list of the National Champions in the BCS era (and Bowl Alliance, the precursor to the BCS) era. Techniquely, 95 Huskers would fall into that as they played in the first Bowl Alliance national champion game. So the fact that that team is missing is a little suspicious. But this lists are kind of stupid anyway, so who really cares?
