  1. hey guys, what do you think about the fact that Mizzery hasn't really played anyone. granted, they beat a syracuse team in week one who went on to stomp Louisville but have they played anyone with REAL speed (like USC) or with a winning mentality (like ACC champ Wake)? in other words, can they just turn 'it' on and play at a level that requires more speed and execution. i know they have a week off to prepare, but sometimes that can backfire some on the physical level because their scout team doesn't run like our starters. they may be mentaly ready as far as schemes, but i think since we have been playing better opponents in tighter games our 'edge' will equal their week off. thoughts on this?
  2. i bet he sees quality minutes and becomes a huge factor against Texas and aTm and Mizzou! plus he will be so happy to be on the field, it will hopefully inject life into a lifeless bunch. this has me excited.
  3. i second that. no matter what happens, i just hope we have some tenacity and fire. if Coz and rally the troops, that's great!
  4. WOW!! starting? really? that's great! maybe get the attention of the other players on D that if you don't perform anyone, even someone from O, can take your spot.
  5. yes. thank you. i always go to www.huskerfootball.com and it has all the articles
  6. i just read an article about Coz on huskerfootball.com about changing his 'modus operandi' and they had interviewed a former linebacker of his from Wisc. he said he was a very 'player friendly' coach who taught great gap discipline and always had his players in great positions to make plays. THEN, he says, but when things started going bad or there were times the opponent was dictating the flow, it seemed their defense had a hard time adjusting and seemed to be on their heels reacting instead of taking the fight to the other team. Sound Familiar???? Now, i'm sure if you interviewed another former player, he could say the exact opposite. i bet some thought Coz was great all the time. the gist of the article was that it seems not a lot has changed about Coz's D's either here or a Wisc over the last 8-10 years, even suggesting that with all the spread offenses and fast-break teams out there, the game might have passed him by some time ago. meaning he learned his style of coaching and defensive schemes during the "3 yds and cloud of dust" BIG10 days. anyway, for what's it's worth, it was a pretty good read. sorry, but i don't know how to post links. here's to the Blackshirts getting some fire back this week!! like my linebacker coach in college would say, "Start playing with some Fire!! I'm gonna get a red-hot poker and stick it right up your ass!!" that would get us goin.
  7. i love how he refers to his team as "tissue". they have not one tradtion there. they even steal Ohio State vernacular. wait i guess they do have one tradition: losing to the Cornhuskers. as for your 'discussion topics': the Blackshirts, though beleagured, will not have a problem with your skill people. they've taken their lumps and will come out swingin for conference play.
  8. great quotes. i played outside backer in college. once a week we had a pass rush drill. one of our tackles would get beat pretty bad sometimes. our O-line coach said to him once, "Johnson!!! you just got tossed like a USED RUBBER!" (the names have been changed to protect the individual)
  9. dudes, i just got it. this year will seperate the men the boys. the Cornhuskers from the mere players. the bad D coordinators from the spirited blackshirts, etc...\\some players will deal with it and stop accepting lesser play and will rebuild the program. the others will be left on the bench. i think fans showing some deserved frustration and an unacceptance of lack of toughness will motivate the ballers and the pretenders will fall off. (potentially: mckeon n dillard) evolution. eat or be eaten. do it or sit. let's watch the Cream rise to the top.
  10. i agree with tarheel and stigori. great posts about family and dysfunctionality. but the common thread is our love of the Team. my own family is dysfunctional at times too. and we point out and argue about changes we'd like to see made. i think it's healthy to a point. i want to talk about changes i personally think need to be made. that's why i come here. to cheer the good AND bad. but I am I and I for one will cheer the Cornhuskers on. even if we go 3-8.
  11. i am sorry, but Q is just wrong here. college football is not highschool football. it is not supposed to be fun in and of itself. it is purely performance based. it is fun...when you win (which i get is part of his point, that we ARE 3-1) and you grade out good on film and your coach DOESN'T yell at you! college and pro's seperate the men from the boys. those who understand how to do their JOB on the field and excel at it do have fun. real fun like boys have in during highschool careers are left behind for a very select few who can actually play in college, let alone a top tier program. we are talking about coaches who are paid handsomely for teaching a game. players on scholarship for a big time program. better results are expected than what they've given 3 weeks in a row. i hate to say it but Dan Hawkins was right: "this isn't intramurals, this is D1 football!" if Q wants to have 'fun' then go play intramruals. if he wants to compete and let the cards fall, then suck it up, sell out, and get better results. then that will be fun. period.
  12. he's got that nice forward lean and big thick trunks for legs like Castille, and BJax
  13. he's practicing at WILL, per huskerfootball.com
  14. what happened to Mckeon? man that guy was studly as a soph!! he got hurt a little last year and has no athlecticism left in his body! i feel for him cuz he was a baller, then...flat
  15. i don't blame the players, Thenarse is can get it done. he may be inexperienced and confused, but he will gain experience through play, but to get un-confused is up to the COACH
  16. where are all the 'mad-chemistry' blitzing safety, different looks, etc...schemes that coz was talking about at the beginning of the year? if Davis had all day to pass and we have 5 d-backs that could be on the field, why didn't we blitz to put pressure on? i only listened to the game on the radio and the announcers were only saying he was scrambling around a bit to find time and that the d-line couldn't get off blocks. WHERE IS THE SCHEME? WHERE ARE THE ADJUSTMENTS? WHEN ARE WE GOING TO CONFUSE THE OPPONENT ON DEFENSE INSTEAD OF THE OTHER WAY AROUND? WHEN? WHEN?
  17. yeah i agree. catching 11 passes is outstanding and a great intangible. it helps him get to where he's best too, in the open field. he sure can make people miss and is very tough to catch. however, it just doesn't seem like he has a forward lean. like BJax or Ahman Green. they seemed to get the ball and have the mentality of 'i have it, i dare you to come tackle me'. Lucky is more like 'well, not a lot there. i'll go down and live to fight another day.' he does have great pass blocking and is capable to make big plays, but just not a lot of tenacity.
  18. i agree with a lot of what you said. however, i'm just not quite ready to say the entire ship is sinking. if that were so, we'd see a lot more rats jumping off. by that i mean, players blaming players, coaches yelling at the media, players quitting during games and a bunch of 'injuries'. i was on a team that won 9 games 5 years in a row in college and then we only won 2 my senior year, trust me, rats jump off a sinking ship. having said that, i read all the coach and player quotes on huskers.com and you can definetly see some reaction to our D's inaction. Callahan sees it, no doubt. Keller said he was praying. even Ruud said knew they were stinking and it was time to make a few plays. the simple fact is, this year we may see many close games. i hate close games that seriously make me feel like i'm having a heart attack. as long as we win and the players stick together, then we can still cheer for them and support them. we fans have every right to have a chip on our shoulders and express our 'discomfort' with the current defensive situation. Cosgrove should see the door this year. however, the players can play for themselves and each other, close out the rest of the world, ban together and just fricking fight...that's what we can ask of them. and in return, they have my support. if we win the BIGXII even if every game is won by only one point, then i would be proud of them for fighting. it's not like they want Ball St. to happen. i truly believe at this point it's the coach. so, i will support the players and not be mad at them anymore so long as they never give up. but i like our teams' chances and think there is still plenty of time to turn it around. except cosgrove
  19. plain and simple...hitting, tackling, assignments, intensity, enthusiasim, confidence, and blood-thirtsy CAN and SHOULD be taught. i have never, ever seen or listened to such an unheartening defensive scheme and tenacity as i have over the last THREE years at Nebraska...we have pretty good players, all the above mentioned things rest with the coach. it is time for a change. Cosgrove must go
  20. yeah, dude. Q as a soph was AWESOME. then he got hurt a little and has not been the same. seems hurt and SLOW
