  1. i agree, more red. otherwise, it's come along way since tecmo bowl!!
  2. i think KU still has a ways to go. the attitude in lawerence has changed, yes. but there's a reason they're still talking 40-15, a couple years after it happened. i see the same thing every few years from MU, ISU, etc...a few years of above average players, making a few games that they always lose a little more competitive for for a little while. then, 3 years of mediocrity. i do respect them. i was at the 40-15. their fans were actually pretty cool compared to the KSU fans. but the experience of returning a bunch of average players only makes the team a little above average.
  3. yeah, andrew "bad angle" shanle. he would get fined by ME if he was talking to potential recruits.
  4. a&m and osu tough as far as games that could cost us if we don't show up to play hard.
  5. i tend to think the a&m's and OSU's are tough. they KNOW they won't beat texas and OU, but to get us, especially at home, would be huge for them. however, i just think we won't overlook anyone. i see a cointoss between texas and USC. and unless we implode in the postseason, one or both of those games will be a loss. so i think 11-3, maybe with some stellar defense 12-2. (which i think would be fantastic BTW)
  6. i have my dad's 1975 BIG 8 championship ring, the commemorative 1986 Fiesta bowl jersey we got when my dad was coaching. i have awesome/hilarious highlight/documentary films from 72-75. it's hilarious because of the clothing styles and hair styles and shoes and stuff. also cuz of the type of calisthentics they were doing. 75% of them would be banned by the health administration nowadays. my dad said it made them "men". for instance they had 25 lb steel bars with two coffee cans filled with cement on the ends. they had to bend their knees and touch the bar to the ground and then shoulder press it over their heads. to see 115 football players doing this like jumping jacks with that long hippie hair and the black guys afro's is just hilarious. i guess they weighed about 50 lbs total. it looked like they were doing about 150 reps. hahahahahahahaha. anyway, i got tons of great stories like these along with great physical memorabilia. i didn't think it was a big deal then but, now i think how sweet it was to be 10-12 years old and go to practice everyday and be in the stadium and on game day...man...it was awesome.
  7. is it legal for players to talk to each other before a letter of intent is signed? didn't reggie bush get in little trouble for talking to that back out of mississippi? or is it former players can't talk to recruits?
  8. i agree skersfan. i EXPECT good talent. i EXPECT hard play. i EXPECT a chance to win every game. add these up and the expectations are high but they're not DEMANDS. i don't demand NC's. but i expect if we put things together (facilites, sell outs, recruits, luck, a competitive sched) then the expectations are within reach. i just personally feel callahan will get the job done and the players are responding to his style. if we were 6-4 5-5 every year, i'd be like "damn, i expect a little more, what's the deal?" so i don't think having expectations are the same as unrealistic demands. i love this school i want them to win, by 40 or 4 i don't care. most schools, CU, say 'who cares if we win 4 games as long as we beat neb.' well, those are some crappy expectations and they are low. we are not like that. i expect more.
  9. i was in lawerence when ku beat N for the first time in 482 years. as i was walking out, with my head held high (and KU fans giving respect) i overheard a contigent of old school football alumns from NU. they said and i quote"well, things were destined to change, but we NEVER lost to KU, at least we have our sell-out streak left." these were guys who aren't trev alberts or broderick thomas, or whatever. they were born and raised in neb and played and given heart to the program. they feel frank being fired was shady but realize it's time to move on. basically, if its going to change, many things need to stay the same. that includes expectations. callahan will succeed because he must. it has been an adjustment for everyone, even old players. we want long term. we want consistency. we want WCO to produce 8 years in a row to be able to believe. when that happens (and it will, it MUST) we'll be back. we'll be back when streaks are back. we'll be back when others hate and respect at the same time. we'll be back when we 'know'. right now no one knows. but we can be excited because we HAVE expectations. we have a standard. we have loyalty. we have tradition. it matters. screw the term limits and hot seats! tell me you don't think we can win every game and i'll tell you not to watch! i'd rather have high expectations than no expectations at all. Go Big Red
  10. yeah, cuz when i was in nebraska it was OU. then we lived in KS for a few years and it was KSU. now i live in denver and i can't STAND all the hippie CU fans. good call! on the geography
  11. why did skers fan say, "i would be surprised if he was here in the fall (sam keller)?" does he mean as a starter, or at ALL? i think keller is going to be DOMINANT. everyone says he hasn't played at NU blah, blah, blah. he was here ALL year last year, throwing..learning..practising..bonding..no offence to Taylor, but if HE could learn the system in 1 year (which is what keller did last year) then be Big XII player of the year the next; then keller can be an all american. he can carry the team. lucky will run freer because of the deep threat. we will be up in games in the fourth. glenn can pound the ball. the defense can pin their ears back because of a cushion on the scoreboard. we can kick field goals instead of trick plays or going for it because of better field position. the second teamers can get valuable playing time while the starters rest. i think all this is going to happen this year and MY expectations are nebraska should be in every game they play without a doubt. we should win at least 11 games--any thing other than 10--is a little bit of a down year. i know exactly what trev is talking about. my WHOLE life as a husker fan (im 30) i knew nothing less than 9 wins. when we lost, i was literally sad the whole week, till we got our next win. now we realize some programs have caught up to us even in our own conference. this doesn't mean we should expect less wins, or deal with losses better! the players know this tradition, they know the expectations, the trophies are right in front of their eyes. unrealistic? maybe. but that is how i feel. and doubtless thousands of other big red fans. i prefer to think the glass is more than half full. and that means to me 10 or more wins, competing with the big dogs, and having a chance to win championships (B12 or NC). i agree with most everything skeres fan and hunter 94 and others post, but maybe my view is just a little more optimistic?
  12. if there was NO chance, they wouldn't play the game. if we get a couple turnovers, we can win.
  13. you sure jackson was a callahan recruit? Osborne WAS a great recruiter. he got the BEST players to fit HIS system. some coaches get average players for a great system. or great players for a bad system, etc...TO got who he needed to average 10 wins over a 25 year career. any player like wistrom, ralph brown, will shields, eric warfield...they could go anywhere-why go to nebraska? cuz a great recruiter recruited them.
  14. i too had anguished nights over loses to OU, which made the wins sweeter. if they beat NU, i would hope OU would win their bowl. but, to say NU and OU both had their questionable players is a rotten comparison. OU straight up had some criminals.
  15. there is a hilarious reply from soundboy 3115 on there.
  16. oooooh, intriguing question...have to say Gay-state, cuz their fans just don't get it. however, CU also cuz they think they have some kind of equality and rivalry against us. actually, yeah. CU i hate those guys.
  17. i think a GREAT technique taught, that CAN actually be a game plan, is that if the D-line can't penetrate to get their hands up. get a nice push off the ball, keep your eyes up, and get those meat hooks into the passing lanes. we played a team in college who ONLY threw 3 step drops. they killed everyone. then all week we practiced the art of deflection. we had 4 deflections and two were caught for INT's. isn't potter and those guys like, well over 6'3-6'5? but, yeah. basically me thinks it's all about TURNOVERS against USC.
  18. texas. ever since 98 (which put them back on the map) i have been dying for a huge jar of revenge. plus their stadium is so stupid with the endzones being so far from the field i hate watching games there. BUT, the cheerleaders in their chaps are pretty nice.
  19. yep. my dad's best friend in college. my two brothers and i would play backyard football with the 3 davis boys while our dad's were assisting at NU. i remember tony's shaggy blonde hair and he always had a huge tobacco dip in his lip!!
  20. wow, huskerjack23 i was reading this post and i was thinking exactly what you ended up writing. i think we have the players to get after people. with the experience at LB being able to pressure the offense and enough talent up front to contain the run i think turnovers are going to fuel or fammish the blackshirts this year. i don't see us being able to stand up to 9-12 play drives without the likes of Carriker, Moore, etc...but! we do have a chance to fly around with Asante, Oc, and Turner, etc...so imo the experience (not yet depth) of the LBs and the talent up front can overcome a small defeciency at DB.
  21. i hadn't thought about a big loss really hurting until i read that take. yeah, we lost to usc, texas, and auburn, but really should have won 2 and at least were in the game in the third. that's what i've been thinking. what happens, really, if we get blown out?
  22. i would see the transfers as a problem had not most of them came in the spring. they got a chance to become familiar with campus, see the city, the stadium, and most importantly bond and compete with teammates. dan hawkins is a sheer idiot. elway played at stanford, where is the comparison? where?
  23. actually jake sharp runs a 10.3 100meter. the boy can fly. and he's pretty tough. but an everydown back? that remains to be seen. he kind of reminds me of josh davis who played for NU but a lot faster.
  24. i wasnt too crazy bout the alamo bowl for one reason: they talked about the officiating too much 'oh, the sun belt conference cant keep up with these players' etc...tell us you what you think then get back to the game; the players, coaches, and certainly not the announcers control the officiating. almost like it was an excuse for Mich. even at the very end they were saying 'how fast they were leaving the field'. plus i dont need capitan kirk's hypocrisy about his hate for N then telling us REAL sportsfans knowledge about OUR program. okay venting over...now
  25. turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. us--less them--more plus a turn over for points either way--i think this is the difference cuz crowd noise and revenge will equal out their talent gap---if there is one big games are decided by mistakes i think
