  1. Greg Shiano, Rutgers. He's a PSU alum, he's a quality coach, and above all else, he appears to be a quality person. There's no way Penn State gets a name coach in Happy Valley this decade--the stench of this will taint even the strongest of names, regardless of Ws or Ls. But someone like Greg Shiano can rise above it and possibly bring some respectability back to PSU.
  2. Matt Millen breaks down on ESPN Sportscenter re: Penn State child abuse allegations, says some pretty poigniant things (IMO): http://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/55930-matt-millen-breaks-down-and-cries-re-penn-state-debacle/

      It was a shocker...

  3. http://deadspin.com/5857515/ Of note: Look--I know we've railed on Matt Millen (myself included) on these boards. But he's right, and I think he's pretty much saying a lot of what we're thinking--that it's sad we're not protecting our children and thinking of them in this situation.
  4. Great--now we have to deal with a 'win one for the Gipper' mentality Saturday. Hope this burns Penn State out fast. And it appears that Graham Spanier may be looking for work after all is said and done as well. Didn't care for him, but he did do quite a bit to help DoNU's non-athletic interests, if memory serves--perhaps we can give him an office and a paycheck to help Harvey expand Nebraska's non-agricultural research footprint?
  5. I know you threw the sarcasm tag out there, but there are some folks that aren't giving Maher credit--considering he was punting into the wind, he did a bangup job, and more of those punts should have been stopped before they hit the endzone had Special Teams been paying attention. I do think we've been letting our Special Teams coast, mainly because we found Maher, but it's going to come back and bite us in the arse sooner or later. And honestly, it was part of the equation for the Northwestern loss yesterday.
  6. So a more advanced engine, better graphics, destructible environments, squad based gameplay, vehicles and about the most realistic warfare game ever don't trip your trigger? You're crazy son!!! I wouldn't waste $60 on Modern Warfare 2 Modern Warfare 3. It's basically just new weapons, reorganized perks and new models slapped onto the same half a decade old engine. I guess you have to give IW made props for being able to sell that garbage, though. Now that I've said that, though, I'm glad nobody knows I still generally pay full price for the new NCAA game every year. At least this last year it only cost me $35! Enhance, there are some folks that just can't handle what BF3 provides, bottom line. MW's success lies in its banality, simplicity, and the ease of which script kiddies can hack the games. It's part of the reason why Infinity Ward and Activision came to loggerheads--the former wanted to expand the franchise greatly, and the later was content to shovel the same **** out the door for $59.99 U.S. and rely on P.T. Barnum's Law of Consumer Creation and Categorization. Considering the braintrust behind MW (Infinity Ward) has mostly migrated over to EA and DICE, it's only a matter of time before Call of Duty goes the way of Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk Skateboard games.
  7. The first season was great, but the second season has been stretched a little too thin on content so far. This has everything to do with the showrunner being forced out by AMC, as well as AMC severely cutting the program's budget (thanks to Mad Men's demands) and doubling the episode order for this season. Similar issues and problems have been inflicted on future Breaking Bad seasons (perhaps the best show on TV currently). Ultimately, AMC screwed up something fierce, and they're putting the cost-cutting onus on the other AMC shows.
  8. Yes, but are they still restricting access to the top of Oldfather Hall and the Capital Building? I don't think that jumping from the Nelnet building downtown will result in the desired effect...
  9. And to add, Pelini did this without using SEC or Texas dirty money tactics. The SEC--the best college athletes money can buy.
  10. Thanks. And the dogpile comment still holds true--until Michigan State clinches (doubtful, the way they've played on the road and with Iowa finding itself once again...), we're still in this. We simply need to win our tiebreaker game against Michigan, take Penn State down, and seal the deal with Iowa--all still entirely possible. And if we honestly go 10-2 and *don't* make the Big 10 title game, it would, if anything, validate our belief that the Big 10 is a much tougher league than the one we came from, which will only make us better in the longrun.
  11. Bumping this thread as it seems rather apt to do so, considering Saturday's results. What's hard to remember, above all else, is that these are still kids and student athletes (in the Big 10 at least) playing football. They, like us, are prone to emotional swings, letdowns, and sometimes no matter how much good coaching you have, it still happens. Even to coaches with Doctorates.
  12. I do have to say, if we had an OC with the last name of Watson, the game would have been over at the half. Despite the bad call on fourth down, Beck and Martinez both did a good job of keeping us in the game, and our WRs mostly showed up today. It's kinda funny--our offense shows up consistently this year, but our defense is appearing in fits and starts. Last year and in '09, it was the other way around. If we can get both the offense and defense on the same page, look out...
  13. Look--this loss is certainly on the players, especially Rex and Quincy coughing up untimely turnovers, and our D-Line and secondary being pillow soft. *But*, if anyone doesn't think this wasn't tainted by poor officiating, I'm sorry--this is the worst job of officiating I've seen this side of the tainted Big XII crew we had last year. No holding calls when they were there, obvious blocks in the back by Northwestern that we're called, and at least two late hits that weren't called by the zebras. I'm trying to remain cordial to our new hosts, but perhaps we as a fanbase should keep track of this crew. I seem to recall we had problems with them earlier this year and their one-sided non-calls before...
  14. Also, how many folks think we took this week to look ahead and took a win against Northwestern for granted?
  15. So flippin' what? A win by us took Michigan out of the equation completely--now they're still in the hunt, even if we win in Ann Arbor.
  16. F**k, F**k, F**k... This is not looking good... Also, is it me, or has the officiating been abysmal this game?
  17. OMFG, we give out Blackshirts, and they now can't tackle worth a **** again. And these officials are ***t--at least three holds not called today that would be called any other time...
  18. BTW, is Stanley Jean Baptiste in? Don't think I've seen him... NM, just saw post above.
  19. Anyone else get the impression that the week was spent prepping more for PSU and Michigan instead of Northwestern? It's as if both the offense and defense aren't sure what to expect...
  20. If I read this right your expecting Obama to send in the troops to Iran. Because it is an election year and currently behind in polls? So a President that won a popular election on the promise, among other things, of pulling troops out of the Middle East in 2008 would send more troops back and put them in a very costly battle (both in human life and fiscally) against the most heavily fortified power in the region (excluding Turkey)? This, while the American public is decidedly against the Iraq and Afghanistan missions? This, while successfully using his office to dictate an optional, and more sustainable path for America's inclusion into armed conflict in the Middle East by working directly and behind the scenes with NATO allies and local freedom fighters in Libya?
  21. Unfortunately for Constantine, he died before the pope sanctioned a "bible" of canon written in Latin. However Jerome was not an original thinker, and had put his collection together with the help of many others including Augustine. He also put an emphasis to include all the books he had already translated into Latin. The various denominations can't agree on which books should be included to this day. And no Bible is complete without the Book of Tobit! Or the Gospel According to Thomas...but then, after reading said gospel, it's understood why it was left out when the government and churches were putting together a definitive "bible"--the most accepted takeaway from the Gospel implies that one doesn't need a church or organization to worship God, as well as the propagation and protection of nature (which God created) is also a way man can worship the Lord. Also, let's remember that the Roman Catholic Church, for the longest time, did not want its followers to actually read the Bible, and that the Vatican was, at one time, persecuting those laymen who dared learn to read and read the Bible for themselves and those that could not do so themselves. In short: The Bible and its creation wasn't originally meant for mass consumption--it was meant as a means of rhetorical control by the church, and is a tool still used to this day.
  22. Hey Andy-- The move is great. I'd say more, but it would be bitter venomous offensive and you've been nice. It would help if you said something derpy, but it appears you're one of the good Poke fans, so I doubt you'll give me that opening. Honestly, it's been great in the Big 10. Fans have been great, it feels like we've been welcomed to a family that we've known for a long time but just never got to visit, Delaney has been fair and accommodating, yet authoritative, and the Big Ten Network is killer. In fact, the show "Big Ten and Beyond" covers *all* college football and had a bit on OSU the other night.
