  1. Sad, but true. This. If anything, our band should be stealing ideas taking cues from the away venues we visit in the Big 10 this year to incorporate into our own pre-game. And my wife was a band geek and watches these things (when the frakin' TV coverage allows) closely. She likes the band well enough, but has wished that we did more, even on the road.
  2. Ivan Maisel probably had to lobby the ESPN brass and the frozen head of Walt really hard just to write that snippet. Texas' PR mission, it seems, is to use any of their underlings to discredit us in an attempt to shift the conference realignment blame to anyone that doesn't have a pointy uterus on their helmet. I do hope the rhetoric about being nice to Texas is just that, because if we are giving Austin the time of day, we really need to cut that out and go on the PR offensive with news outlets not affiliated with ESPN.
  3. Gossip says the Big12 wil take us as a nonfootball member if the BigEast collapses. So in either scenario, we'll be seeing TCU cheerleaders in our basketball stadium. I dunno, Joe. CW says that if the Big East collapses, Notre Dame will bite the bullet and saddle up with the Big 10. Between the hockey affiliation (which hasn't been sorted out yet IIRC) and the NBC contract ending in 2014, now is as good a time as any to fully join a conference with little to no conflict. Plus, since we lost Kansas, Nebraska fans have been looking for an annual migration game location.
  4. It's amazing the number of 'Husker fans I talk to that say the same thing--they're not a fan of any NFL team, per se, but they stop down to watch how the Nebraska kids do on Sunday. And yes, while I've been partial to Green Bay, I find myself cheering for the Lions quite a bit, especially when Suh and Vandenbosch(sp) are in. It's amazing to watch the turnaround going on in Detroit, and the attitude that Suh and VB bring to the table is 75% of the reason why they're successful. Here's hoping they make it to the Super Bowl--would make for a good story, for both Suh, Detroit, and DoNU.
  5. In all fairness, the offensive gameplan that tOSU came out with seemed focused on their strengths and competent--something that tOSU fans said was lacking in prior weeks. Not saying that beating tOSU's offensive was a major skin, but it did help establish a true leader on that defense in David, and helped Jean-Baptiste get a starting spot and a possibly good compliment to Fonz in the secondary. Now, our offense bullied a Top-25 defense (read: better than Wisky) in the second half when it mattered. If we could learn to do that for four quarters, then *all* games, including the rematch with Wisky (or match w/Illinois) will be winnable.
  6. Nebraska to the Rose Bowl? I'm assuming thats because UW is at the MNC? If only.... Yup. Figure Oklahoma vs. Wisky for all the marbles if they don't lose to Illinois.
  7. Minnesota: Win -- Martinez and Rex will shake up their defense, and our D will learn how to cause a running QB team fits. (6-1) Michigan St: Win -- The defense at MSU is just as good as the tOSU defense. (7-1) Northwestern: Win -- As long as our kids show up and Persa isn't healthy. (8-1) Penn St: Win -- Good defense, sad offense that our defense will give hugs and encouragement to. (9-1) Michigan: Win -- Michigan is all offense when they're hot, but abysmally bad when they're not hot...and Michigan won't be able to stop us on Defense. (10-1) Iowa: Win -- Good defense, sad offense part III. (11-1) Big 10 Title Game: Nebraska vs. Wisconsin--L Nebraska vs. Illinois--W Bowl Game: BCS Rose or At-Wild vs. Oklahoma State or Alabama
  8. Isn't calling somebody a fool specifically meant to be "an offence"? But he said 'no offense', so it's not meant to be offensive. And I agree about the Northwestern game (if Persa is healthy). That one and Michigan will be scary. Plus, remember folks, if Michigan wins, they'll be a Top-10 unit when we play them at their house. What was that stat about DoNU not beating a Top-10 team on the road since when?
  9. Nothing wrong with what he's doing, and from what it sounds like, the guy is a pretty decent guy, especially if he was more than cordial after that tOSU game. Hell, we have the 'Husker Elvises (Elvi?) and the dude wearing the Mexican Gunfighter outfit (Mexi Corn Killa?), and they're pretty crazy, but they standout, and they are nice folks from what I gather. Nothing wrong with drawing attention in this manner, as long as you use that attention for good.
  10. Did you not see the game? I'm thinking that will be SJB!!! Agreed. SJB had himself a good game there in the second half, and I think he's stepping up. And David appears to be the vocal leader of the defense now, which is a good thing--should help our defense going forward.
  11. tOSU was still attacking and bringing players up, even when we were running the diamond during those first few series. And while the Diamond formation contributed, it was the downfield strike to Qunicy that ultimately put tOSU back on their heels and put the fear of God in them. Though the Diamond did help keep tOSU on their heels after-the-fact...
  12. Whoa. Depends what we're talking about. There *are* folks here that presented arguments that were without ad hominem attacks on Martinez. There were people on these boards that simply said Martinez may be a better asset to the team playing another position or saying that Carnes should get a shot. Those people are not pathetic, just because they posted an opinion contrary to yours. You really should ratchet down the broad spectrum of your criticism here, because you're getting dolphin in your tuna net.
  13. It's a movie quote. Not from a particularly good movie . . . but I thought I'd clue you in if you were a bit confused. If you only watch the Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise bits, it becomes a very funny short skit on SNL with an insane budget. As for Bo vs. Media, both sides are going full retard, but the media always wins these battles. Would rather Bo exude energy on getting our defense on track and quit wasting it on the likes of Dirk, Barfy, and co. And am I the only one hoping that Tom Shatel and Sam McKneown take over the OWH Nebraska sports coverage and that Dirk and Barfy go write for the gardening section of the paper?
  14. That would be a ringing endorsement from a quality QB that is a less-than-quality person (IMO). I do like the hustle and effort that Cromartie provided our secondary--in some aspects, he was almost as good as Fonz from what I saw, though please correct me if I'm offbase with this or I missed something boneheaded that he did. And is it me, or does Stanley Jean-Baptiste sound like a James Bond villan's name? Not knocking his name at all, just saying...
  15. *And* he made throws downfield over 10+ yards, and against a Top 25 defense to boot. Our ability to stretch the field is what will open up our running game and help our O-Line out. Otherwise, we're going to lose the numbers game time and again if we can't threaten beyond 10 yards.
  16. Plus, let's not overlook the fact that, statistically, this tOSU defense was twice as good as the defense we played last week (not trying to be ugly, Badger guests/fans--just looking at the numbers. What opened this game up for us was that downfield pass to Quincy--tOSU hadn't expected it all night, and as soon as we pulled it off, they stopped crowding the D-Line and our RBs could breathe (and run) and our O-Line was *magically* competent again. If Martinez can work on/improve his downfield passing, then our offense will be something magical, and the second go-around with Wisconsin will be a completely different affair.
  17. If we pull this win out, they won't remember them--they'll remember the stadium rocking its loudest since Suh and Co stood up Oklahoma. And the fan noise is per a friend that called me just a few ago--said he hasn't heard it this loud since that day. Perhaps people listened to Bo and Co?
  18. Their infinite wisdom is needed elsewhere. No, the same issues are there. But we've worked through/around them to tie this up. But tOSU hasn't respected our WRs all game--that's why a downfield passer may have actually made plays earlier. But as soon as Martinez made that 20+ yard TD, tOSU brought their secondary back and hasn't been crowding the line. And I don't hate Martinez--just think we've had opportunities that we can't exploit w/Martinez behind center.
  19. Agreed, but save it for when we get better field position. A stop here will bring it back out so we can tie this thing up.
  20. Not Bo's fault, if Bo is correct--this crew hasn't exactly set the world on fire tonight...especially with all of the holding tOSU is getting away with. Lets not pull out the "refs" card I'm not, and not meaning to. If we lose, it's because our coaches and team failed.
  21. Actually, he's got some decent skins on his wall IIRC. Don't sell him short... Fair enough. I don't know anything about him honestly. I'm trying to will us back into having a decent season. It's full-time work, but the payoff is huge. (if it works) If there's a 401k and health benefits, where do I sign up?
  22. Not Bo's fault, if Bo is correct--this crew hasn't exactly set the world on fire tonight...especially with all of the holding tOSU is getting away with.
