  1. Oh holy hell, who's doing Amateur Strip in Lincoln? The Grove again? That was one of the best nights back in the Grove when I was going to school. Plus, it was rather serendipitous when I ran into a female co-worker by accident who was competing...
  2. A friend of mine actually found an answer--apparently Kansas State is holding all of the Big 8 archives at their school: http://en.wikipedia....ight_Conference Still wonder where the Big XII conference stuff will go. Baylor, perhaps?
  3. Just curious. I saw where Texas Tech holds the Southwestern Conference's historical data/memorabilia/archives, and I was wondering if anyone has been designated yet to hold onto the Big 8 chotchkies in the same manner? Also, who would you want to hold onto the Big XII chotchkies when the conference collapses? Should Nebraska step up and take over the Big 8 or XII history when the Big XII collapses?
  4. Are you talking about the one in the middle. We still have it I hope you are still using the helmets in the middle, because those are really awesome. Should use those plus brown jerseys + brown pants. I'm frankly shocked that Nike didn't force Wyoming to wear helmets molded in the shape of a 10-gallon hat or add saddle logos to the backs of their jerseys. Wyoming classic jerseys and helmets are great--here's hoping we see those Saturday.
  5. Win? You bet they won. Against Bowling Green. By a whole one point. They were looking ahead to Utah State.
  6. This was not very well thought out AT ALL. Missouri makes it better right away. Maybe not the others, but Missouri is better than almost half of the programs in the Big 10. Right now. Kansas basketball alone makes your argument invalid. And if you really want to be picky, Kansas has been to a BCS bowl, whereas Missouri has not. Mind you, I'm not saying Missouri would be bad for the Big 10--just that Missouri is not better than half the programs in the Big 10.
  7. And Kansas to the B1G has been coming up in discussions more and more lately, especially since Syracuse and Pitt are off the table now (though Pitt was never really in it to begin with, save for 16-team scenarios.) Mark Slablach (ESPN): http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/6991560/acc-move-raises-more-expansion-questions-college-football Steve Sipple, LJS: http://my.journalstar.com/post/Husker_Extra_Group/Husker_Extra/blog/will_big_tens_hand_be_forced.html Plus, let's remember that Delaney, himself, is a basketball man. He knows the value of Basketball and its expansion of programming on the network.
  8. Why? Mizzou doesn't bring anything valuable to the table. Better off with Kansas. At least you get basketball with KU. This conference shuffle has never been about basketball. No, this expansion has been about programming for a collegiate conference network. Football only covers September through December--you've got hockey (for the B1G now) and basketball to stretch that out through March. Kansas' value resides in that December through March area, and even Sipple from the Journal Star thinks Kansas to the B1G would be a good move (especially if it's paired with Notre Dame).
  9. Kansas wouldn't bring much to football, but their basketball could more than make up for it IMO. Don't know if I'd take anyone else from the Big 10. Plus, Missouri seems to be angling for a SEC bid, so they may be a moot point soon enough. And remember--the Big 10 will take Notre Dame in a heartbeat. A Kansas/Notre Dame expansion would be a significant win for the Big 10.
  10. The television ratings don't exactly mesh with the fan estimates. We averaged something like a 3.57 in 2009--significantly better than Notre Dame, whose biggest game was a 3.2 that year (USC). The Big XII title game was something close to 11, IIRC, which was then the second-best ratings for a Saturday night game on ABC. Texas already played A&M on Saturday night that year, so it wasn't the inclusion of Texas to that title game which drove the ratings...just sayin'.
  11. Frankly, I'll believe it when I see it. The TV sets aren't there to make this viable. I agree with this, but it's covered in the Kansas thread. Do have to say the NYT article from today examining program fan bases and the number of people watching in major metropolitan areas expressed a similar idea that KS and MO, while they may be 300k off in football fans/viewership, KS basketball would potentially make up for the difference.
  12. Hmmm...it would be rather ironic to take OU's rival... here is the question I have? Would the Big Ten allow them to be full members right away? Or would texas have to come in with the same stipulations as Nebraska did? Same, yet possibly different. We're not a fully-vested member in the Big 10 until we pay X amount (which isn't public knowledge), but it's projected to take 5-6 years to pay off that amount. That money is for becoming a fully-vested member in the Big 10 Network and any other conference-wide infrastructure that Nebraska would benefit from that the other 11 have paid for. Texas would have the same stipulations, but since they bathe in dirty oil and pork barrel money daily, it would likely be easier for Texas to pay those costs in a quicker timeframe *or* just pay whatever X is at the front and then get their full Big 10 check.
  13. I'm sorry, but I just don't see West Virginia going anywhere unless they're the second-to-last and all that are left are the Iowa States and Baylors of the world. They don't move the needle nationally, they have no sizable local media markets, and at the end of the day, it's still West Virginia (apologies to our Nebraska brothers that reside or are from there). And I'm still hearing that Missouri and the SEC are talking with each other, but since Missouri heads the committee for Big XII expansion, we won't see them come up prematurely (read: A&M)--for Mizzou, it will happen in the same day and they'll use Nebraska and A&M's departure amounts as a guide for the Dear John check they'll leave on Beebe's mantle. Also, one conference that has their own network (albeit, with a limited footprint) is the Mountain West. Wouldn't be shocked to see them try and onboard some of the Big XII leftovers to expand the footprint of their own network and fish for a BCS bid. I know, I know...people like to mock the funny-lookin' kid on the block. But this kid does have toys that would benefit certain Big XII leftovers.
  14. Came in to post this... Post what? And here's an image of what a Dark Helmet would look like:
  15. I know "she" is. But when someone said that male cheerleaders are useless at DoNU, they completely overlooked the option to dress them in drag, as OU has done. And here are some of the articles I was able to find regarding the cheerleading accidents that caused our program to shut down. I don't believe anyone died, but there were multi-million dollar lawsuits flying around...which for as fiscally tight a place as DoNU, could easily be the death knell for an instituition. http://peninsulaclar...po0040001.shtml It also appears that Nebraska is pretty much cutting cheerleading down to a voluntary (read: non-competitve) thing. http://journalstar.c...c6bfc1648f.html Of Note: Stunting at NU has been an issue since 1996, when then-student Tracy Jensen was paralyzed in an accident during cheer practice. The university paid Jensen a $2.1 million settlement. In 2002, NU did away with most stunting, including basket tosses, pyramids and tumbling. One year later, though, new Athletic Director Steve Pederson brought back two-person lifts, and cheerleaders had hoped he would further ease restrictions if they followed all safety regulations, Spirit Squad member Heather Ludwick said. So I guess it was on for a while, and now (as of 2007) it's off, along with scholarships and competition for cheerleaders?
  16. Wouldn't go that far re: Pitt. Already in the footprint, and Penn State pretty much owns Pennsylvania media markets. Syracuse, possibly--Pitt, probably not. And this is interesting in that it was intimated that all of the 'leftovers' from the Big XII would end up as part of the Big East (read: Baylor, ISU, KSU, et al). Perhaps some of the Big East schools aren't down with onboarding TCU next year and Big XII refugees in future years?
  17. ESPN is reporting this in the vain attempt to maintain any shred of journalistic integrity (credibility?) We've honestly known this ever since he's been fired, but never confirmed until now, so really nothing new or exciting. All it does is show the lengths that Texass will go to protect their own...so when the Big XII dissolves, don't be shocked to see Austin give Dan Beebe and Walt Anderson window desks for life.
  18. I might be a little early to say Sanders will be missed. Your seeing two young corners out on the filed the last two weeks getting their feet wet. No, but the thought is in the back of more than one fan's mind. And we've started a number of kids for the first time in the secondary and didn't nearly as bad results as we did against Fresno State when Marvin was around. Like another poster said, last game where I remember the secondary was torched was OSU '07, and only for one half, and not 3.5 quarters of a game. Then again, watching the game again, I'm thinking that WR/QB combo may be the third best one we see all year, short of Wisconsin and Michigan State.
  19. A black helmet wouldn't be bad if it had a white 'N', I think. But it's going to be hard to wear black at all w/red and white and not look like a distraught, homeless Texas Tech program sodomized someone in the equipment office.
  20. This doesn't sync up with the recent NY Times article and ESPN newsbite which states Syracuse and Pitt to the ACC. I'd link the article, but it's behind a paywall IIRC. Nevermind, it's been posted in the Other Sports section. I don't know what to think about Texas to ACC--someone else here mentioned its Texas trying their hand at poker again. Problem is, they don't have nearly as many chips now as when Nebraska called and beat them in 2010. A wise man once said you have to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em...
  21. IIRC, it was week 5 of the projected 6-8 weeks. Ohhh, a medical battle, this should be good. Well, it would be if someone added hot candy stripers.
  22. This is why I keep having the sneaking suspicion that we'll be missing Marvin Sanders more than we will care to when the end of the season rolls around. Please note that I hope I'm wrong. Also, did we ever find out why Marvin resigned, and if he's eligible to return? NM, on the why part, found past threads.
  23. Stunting isn't allowed in cheerleading in Nebraska. Therefore, male cheerleaders are basically useless. Begs to differ?
  24. I dunno folks. Showing up in red in Wisconsin's stadium *is* kind of tacky. If it were another school, then I wouldn't care so much (read: Indiana, Ohio State in upcoming years)-- --but this is Barry Alvarez we're talking about, who bleeds 'Husker red so much he emulated the Bobfather's plan in Wisconsin *and* was a strong proponent of getting our happy asses out of that ABC mid-day soap known as "As the Big XII Turns"... If anything, not wearing red in Camp Randall is kind of a sign of respect. For one night, let's be the bigger team, let Wisconsin have their red, and say *thanks* in the process. It's not like we're being asked to wear Texas colors or a pointy uterus on our shirt. Just sayin'.
