  1. Perhaps you and everyone else that is saying this should have been paying attention here the past few weeks--this has been covered, and Missouri to the SEC (along with aTm) is the most logical move they can make. Remember, folks--it's about media markets, even above athletic prowess, people. Before people throw out possible schools or scoff at ones like Missouri, take off the athletic conference commissioner hat, and put on the Television Network Executive hat, and then start your thought process all over again.
  2. Sorry, but I don't see this group approaching the Big 10 for anything. The Pac-12, which TexAgs already reported as a strong rumor, yes--Big 10, I don't think so. And if Kansas is available without being saddled by Kansas State, there's no f*****g way in hell the Big 10 tells them 'no'--they have AAU membership, they have the second-best college bball program in history, and they can draw the KC market (Big 10 already has St. Louis), so they will bring KS and MO viewers to the footprint. The only way the Big 10 tells Kansas 'no' is if they're still coupled to the Purple Kitties--there's little benefit for a BCS conference to take that program unless Kansas were to come along with it. That's why Kansas has been talking with the Big East--path of least resistance, but if there isn't a Big East any longer...
  3. I'd add Texas and Texas A&M (although the latter is more unlikely), and OU (with of course Texas's new BFF ND). If you really think that the B1G would pick up Mizzou, Pitt, Rutgers, or Maryland over Texas+OU you are fooling yourself. B1G won't take Texas as long as they have the Longhorn Network. There is no way they will allow that and Texas isn't giving it up. Oklahoma just doesn't fit as well either geographically or academically. I don't see either of those in the B1G. Oklahoma isn't a member of the AAU, Oklahoma is tethered to Okie Lite, and the Big 10 doesn't want Okie Lite. Oklahoma won't be joining the Big 10 anytime soon unless we go to 16 and the AAU requirement is shelved by the Big 10. :| Texas won't join because of their network...and considering their track record with conferences, they'll be treated like lepers from the BCS conferences going forward unless Texas agrees to serious concessions, political and otherwise. And TheCheshireCat--I sincerely doubt VT is in the mix, as they're joined at the hip with Virgina, not unlike OU and Okie Lite, and VT is not a member of the AAU either.
  4. Nope. Don't see Florida State, and if you don't see Florida State, then you can't see Clemson or Ga. Tech being a candidate for the same reasons. I think they go further north and get someone that's outside the footprint--like I said elsewhere, Maryland and Missouri doesn't set your heart a racin' when it comes to sports prowess...but if you're wearing your television network hats, the addition of either footprint to the Texas footprint would make your heart go pitter-pat.
  5. People keep bringing up the legislature, but they're not a factor in this for the next two years unless Rick "Adios Mofo" Perry calls a special session. They just ended their last session, and they don't meet again until 2013, after the elections (IIRC). I don't think Perry wants to expend political capital on this, so until he does that makes this a non-factor. Then again, this may be why there's a rush on this--to get the deal approved before a special session can be called for.
  6. Got Carl--no, Texas won't be given a chance. Not in the Pac-12 (per Larry Scott's own words), likely not in the Big 10, and Texas is too good for the SEC as better people than I have explained. But in reference to your overarching question, no the B1G is not done expanding. The following schools have been reported to be on their list: Maryland (Likely) W. Virginia (Unlikely) Rutgers (Likely) Kansas (Likely if solo; unlikely if with K-State) Missouri (Neutral--still think they're SEC bound) Ga. Tech (Very Unlikely) Notre Dame (Very Likely if Big East collapses via poaching; otherwise, very unlikely) Pitt (Neutral to Unlikely) Syracuse (Unlikely) I may have missed one or two. Sorry in advance if that's the case.
  7. Matt Hayes has an article up about the potential team to move with aTm. Of note: Okay--I've said this before, and I'll say it again--Matt Hayes in a snaggletoothed idiot. On one hand, he acknowledges what folks like myself have said for quite some time now: this expansion is about media markets and TV programming. Then he offers up two schools that already exist in the SEC footprint. Clemson has been kicked around before here as a possibility, but not Louisville. But since both reside in the SEC footprint, then it stands to reason that the same logic that keeps FSU, Miami, or Georgia Tech out of the SEC should keep Clemson and/or Louisville out. So once you take Matt Hayes' suggestions off the table using his own rationale against him, you're left with VA Tech and Missouri. And since VA Tech is tied to Virginia (not unlike OU is tied to Okie Lite), that's reasonably off the table as well. And you're left with one school...Missouri...who, if you haven't noticed, has been deathly quiet about all of this as of late. That's not very Missouri-like, now is it?
  8. The full details for the Longwhorn network have just recently been made public, and we didn't know until a month or so ago about the clause that expects UT to get a Big XII conference game on their network. While these things take time, I fully expect the rush and timing is so Aggie can go to the SEC in 2012 and not have to endure two years of being jobbed by Walt Anderson, Dan Beebe, and UT via the Big XII office.
  9. Thanks Knapplc. I'd still hit the bitch with my car and chalk up 20 points to my name.
  10. If Chip Brown isn't reporting it, is it still true? Well, make it official then: link All Chip Brown did is see what the Rivals Aggie site said, regurgitated it, and then added some nonsense about Oklahoma, OSU, and Florida State going to the SEC. I sincerely doubt Florida State to the SEC--Florida is already in the SEC footprint, and they still wouldn't have a lock on that footprint because of Miami and the other 8.5 million FBS Florida schools. And multiple sources have said that the SEC wants nothing to do with the SEC--Okie Lite is like another Texas in the making thanks to T. Boones Farms Pickens' money, but with even less of a resume, if that's to be imagined. Also, who says that the SEC needs to go to 16? It would behoove the SEC to find a moving buddy for aTm and stay at 14 until we see how the other conferences go. Remember, the SEC going to just 14 is likely going to trigger the Pac-12, Big 10, and ACC to expand by two--that's six schools, and there may be some overlap (e.g. Maryland) that may cause further dominoes to cascade. Plus, it's Chip ******* Brown--the Brown Clown. The man is a cheap whore, liar, and thief--if I saw him in the crosswalk, I don't know if I could bring myself to press the brakes on the vehicle.
  11. Doesn't really matter if you're grabbing for market--the locals will follow Missouri, but the idea is that they'll tune into the big matches (e.g. LSU vs aTm, 'Bama vs. Florida) because they now have a direct or indirect interest in them due to conference affiliation. That's why the Big 10 may move on Maryland--they'll not do much in football or basketball, but they bring the Baltimore and DC markets--markets that the Big 10 can sell effectively for Nebraska vs. tOSU, or Nebraska vs. Michigan, or Michigan vs. Michigan State, etc., as they all have an impact on Maryland. Unless OU's golden parachute has room for Mizzou, their only play is the SEC. If the aTm to the SEC is a done deal reports are true, Mizzou officials need to be running around screaming Roll Tide and War Eagle at the top of their lungs to the SEC brass...
  12. No amount of southern spin can dispel the clear reality of what is happening: The University of Texas at Austin is close to having played a critical role in the collapse of not one, but two major collegiate conferences in less than twenty years. Incredible. Nebraska clearly emerges as a school with foresight that was bizarrely and inexplicably not shared by all in the what is soon to be the defunct Big 12. NCHuskerfan2001, don't forget that the school that kicked this all off was Missouri when their school and their state governor started making googly eyes at the Big 10. The Big 10 was going to act on Missouri until Nebraska made it known it was willing to entertain offers. And both the SEC and the aTm sites have said similar things: 1) Missouri is hot on the SEC, and the SEC is hot on them. Missouri brings two new media markets (KC and St. Louis)--add that to Houston and 1/2 of San Antonio, and the SEC just scored a major deal that boosts football, basketball, AND their media footprint. 2) OU can't move w/o OSU, and OU, OSU, and T. Tech have been talking with the Pac-12 about a 'golden parachute' deal. Don't know who the fourth team would be, but I suspect it would only be a Big XII team if either Missouri doesn't get a SEC deal (Plan C as it were), or if Kansas is unable to shackle itself from K-State (entirely plausible supposedly due to the state legislature's makeup), Kansas or K-State. The questions are whether or not the SEC and/or Big 10 will stand pat at 14 and 12 (respectively) if the Pac-12 goes 16. I think the SEC will and will be happy at 14--other than Maryland, there are no other reasonable media markets they can gobble up. The Big 10 will likely take a hard look at Maryland and, most likely, Kansas, to improve the 'wow' factor on both the market and national cache fronts. All in all, should be another good off-season next year.
  13. This. My 3.5 year old daughter readily knows Lil' Demon Child like Elmo and Big Bird. Herbie...not so much, but I'm working on that. I do have her associating the letter 'N' with anything Nebraska, though, so I believe I get extra special parental brownie points for that. That, and she can find Nebraska on a U.S. map of the states.
  14. Or just turn the 3D effects off and have a handheld that's almost as powerful as the Wii.
  15. The Dallas Morning News finally admits what the bloggers knew for days--that it's getting serious.
  16. Just so folks are aware, the 'tubes are blowing up about aTm to the SEC news. Too much smoke for there to not be a fire. Schadenfreude at it's finest. :)

Jim Rose on 1110 kfab this morning said he emailed Bill Byrne last night and received the response "Stay Tuned" to the question, is there truth to the story. I think aTm is in much the same position we were and can't afford "not" to make the move.

Agreed. A&M using the FoIA to get a copy of the contract was a good move and extremely telling of what strings are being pulled, and by whom.

Yeah I had something about it posted by changed my status update. :) Either way, posted a thread in the Other Sports forum for anyone who wants to chime in on what to me looks like the death nail.

  17. You just summed up the Texas Southern Baptists on any given Sunday...which is probably why non-denominational churches are springing up all over down here. And yes, I'm painting with a broad brush, and I personally know Southern Baptists that are not like that at all. But many of the Southern Baptists I know that don't fit the stereotype are the first to admit that the stereotype is warranted, for the most part. It's no secret that Christians do a fantastically lousy job of actually listening to what Jesus teaches. And Christian Politicians, even less.
  18. Which is why I see Obama getting another four years. It's not that Obama is such a great president, it's that there aren't any viable candidates on the other side. Reminds me of 2004. Bush II sucked, but who are you going to vote for? Not John Kerry, that's for sure. Seems like the GOP has a couple of versions of Kerry, and then "the derp" as you so eloquently put it. Eloquent? I believe you have the wrong poster, Knapplc. I wield subtlety like Captain Caveman wields his club. And yes, I agree with everything that you said--any of the quality opponents are sitting on the sidelines. Not only do they want to go up against the Obama Juggernaut and his sizable warchest, what politician in their right mind wants to inherit an economic mess that has spanned two presidencies?
  19. No, you see, Obama is personally responsible for every single bad thing that ever happens. If something good happens, he had nothing to do with it. If it was botched, it would be Obama's fault. I know...I know. But remember from 2001 that we should never question the Commander-in-Chief?
  20. Yup, they think he's dog**** because he did a move similar to what Scott did in Wisconsin, and I do have to agree that the cowardice in how both moves were handled is suspect in of itself. At least Wisconsin voters are going to try and recall, despite the fake ballot problems Koch Industries keeps throwing up.
  21. http://www.bigtennetwork.com/dpp/sports/football/BTN-TO-LAUNCH-%E2%80%98BTN2Go%E2%80%99-IN-TIME-FOR-2011- Yeah, I posted the link on BTN to Go that nobody clicked on apparently, that states all of this. As far as I'm concerned it's old news.
  22. Considering recent revelations, wouldn't "pilfered" or "jobbed" be more apt than "passed"? Just sayin'.
  23. Formalities, that is all. Correct. IIRC, there was an article a while back that even had a 2:30pm start time for the Nebraska/Chattanooga tilt. I'll see if I can try and find it. But the Big 10 Network will carry both titles--the Big Ten doesn't even have a PPV arm--that's why they created the Big 10 Network in the first place.
  24. I hate to tell you this, but we ******* told you so. Actually, no, I shouldn't lie like that--I didn't hate to tell you that. It's about ******* time someone in the conference not named Nebraska pulled their head out of their ass since 1997 and realized what the **** was going on. What's especially telling is the 60-day window clause for all Texas non-conference sports should Texas leave the Big XII. There have been folks, myself included, that said this network is Texas planning its own independence on the backs of the Big XII members. The mere inclusion of the 60-day clause confirms as such.
  25. Gov. Christie is defending his appointment to Superior Court, Sohail Mohammed. Of note: Here's the video of his speech: More and more, I'm liking Governor Christie--I don't agree with everything he's said or done, but at least he's willing to use common sense and call the 'baggers out on their GOP-killing derp.
