  1. BidRedIowan, Over the past three years, 2003 to 2006, you should have seen at least 8% per year for a very diversified return. If you haven't, your accounts (and advisor) is not doing you justice. The past three years we've seen good gains in the markets in general and most balanced funds have seen at least the number above for returns. I'd definately look at making a change or questioning your rep as to why changes haven't been made...
  2. Hey all, I am actually one of cmb23's friends he was speaking about. I'm a financial advisor for BancWest Investments and I'll try to sum this up for you the best that I can. HuskerExPat is correct when he says that the cheapest way to go is Ameritrade, Etrade or something similiar. They will not charge you any fees (except the management fees that you will pay no matter what you invest in) minus a small transaction charge to do a trade, depending on the account type/fund type. Here are the main factors to consider. If you want to do your own investing and to actually have the opportunity to do not only mutual funds but possibly stocks, the cheapest route by far is the discount brokers mentioned above. Your fees will be limited (maybe a very small annual fee for tax reporting) but you will receive no advice as they are strictly transactional. If you want someone to call and ask questions and to receive advice, I would recommend using a rep like you have already or that is in that situation. They not only will give advice but can help you manage all kinds of accounts including IRA's, non-qualified accounts (non-IRA's), 529 plans (college savings plans) and many others. The downside is you will normally pay some sort of commissions or transaction charges. I have many clients that I help them with multiple accounts that they have and they love it as they only have to call one place and receive one statement. The difference in many fund companies is the load vs. no-load structure. Vanguard funds, T. Rowe Price, etc. are your standard no-load funds. They don't charge any type of commissions and normally their fees are relatively low (depending on the fund). Franklin Templeton, American Funds, Oppenheimer Funds, etc. are examples of loaded funds. They have two structures that you will normally see. A shares are up front sales charges where you will pay a charge of 3.50% to 5.75% up front (normally that will pay your broker) and that is deducted from each deposit that you make. This is a very expensive way to start investing as you need to make up a pretty good chunk off of the bat. The other option are called C shares. These are the loaded-fund companies equivalent of no-load funds. They don't charge any up front sales charges but have annual management expenses that are a little bit higher than the A share equivalent. Personally, I use a lot of C shares for my clients as A shares are just tough to justify with their high front-end costs. I know, a lot of information to take in but I definately would just think in terms of what is best for you. I receive calls from clients who would like to do more of their own investing which I steer them to a discount broker and I receive calls from clients who are just tired of trying to keep track of everything themselves and want help. You need to ultimately choose the option that is best for you. There are obviously a couple of us who have experience and will give you an unbiased opinion so any questions you have, feel free to ask!!!
  3. The $hitty part of being a siamese twin... Sister one obviously isn't enjoying her sister getting laid by the dude in Weekend at Bernies.
  4. Although personally I think Pederson is a goon, he has done what we ask of him. He has brought in coaches that have a chance to win. Remember, nobody liked Bill Byrne when he came here and look what he did for our football, volleyball and baseball programs. As little as we may like him as a person and how he may do things, the guy seems to have the major programs on the right track.
  5. Maybe he and LP can share a cell???
  6. My head hurts...of course he should have been fired. We would be bottom three in the big 12 if we still ran the option!!!
  7. Good find Huskers13, however: Wow is Michigan's schedule tough, they have to play Oregon and Notre Dame the same day at home??? I'm thinking that Scout.com must have made a boo boo.
  8. Dammit woman, I'm not the handle for the keg!!!!
  9. I would be surprised if they weren't here. Look at the matchup being the third week of the year. Most other schools are just starting conference play then or still playing cupcakes. Assuming everyhting stays the same, it would be a #1 vs. #13. You aren't going to get much bigger than that...
  10. I really hope Keller is as good as advertised. I'm also not sure how good Chase Daniel is. I would give the nod to McCoy or Bobby Reid over him. It will be interesting to see how Purify evolves and if they let Keller and he loose. One thought, it is only special teams, but do we have a kicker or punter worth anything???
  11. We will keep running, I'll go with a 60/40 or maybe 70/30 mix of pass to run. WIth Keller being more mobile than Zac and having a better arm, we now can do quite a bit of play action stuff as well. Watch for a couple of redshirts, with Lucky, Glenn and Wilson (who knows?), why not redshirt at least one or multiple of Castille, Mendoza and Prince???
  12. Not for sure...a rumor also but I heard the other day that it was a staff (sp?) infection. Not sure how bad that is but it certainly doesn't sound good...
  13. In the forefront of the picture, we see a young Britney Spears practicing for her future as a half-nude skank. The finger, just HAD cocaine on it. In the background, we see a young Boy George. "I'm super, how are you?"
  14. Timing is definately funny but I'm actually guessing it didn't have anything to do with Lucky's situation. While I was in college, oh so many years ago, I remember playing basketball with good ol' Doak and also had some friends that were on the team and weren't big fans of his. The guy was not very interesting to say the least. He had the personality of a wet mop and wasn't a very nice guy. My buddies that played football would actually request one of the assistant trainers if they needed something done so they wouldn't have to work with Doak. If anything, my guess is that there was a personality conflict between he and BC.
  15. Here's the deal, if it was an overdose and on purpose (ie suicide attempt), he wouldn't have been released. He would have had far more hospital time for screening, tests and evaluations. Trust me, my brother-in-law tried to kill himself two years ago, I know first hand. My opinion is that this was a non-intentional mistake like mixing meds, one too many pain pills, etc. Could even be something embarassing like taking the wrong meds. Could you imagine if he tried to take something like midol and that would get in the news!!! The fact that he doesn't want it released, I can't honestly blame him...With that being said, I agree that if they gave us something, it would stop a whole lot of speculation. Most likely won't happen. Just my opinion...
  16. Don't everybody forget how accurate Joe Ganz is when he's thowing to a defensive end who is wide open... Unless they start a couple of 300 pounders at receiver and run out of the field goal or punt formation regularly, I'm guessing Keller is the man.
  17. Here is my only concern about the coaches playing who is best for the position/team. Three situations from this past year come to mind. Lucky in over Brandon Jackson in many instances, Andre Jones instead of giving someone like Ricky Thenarse a chance and probably the largest issue, MATT HERRIAN. I question those three choices. I know that Husker Nation loves Matt but he is and has been done since his knee injury. He doesn't have the speed, the confidence or the ability any longer. Instead of playing a more capable tight end throughout the season, the coaching staff continued to play Matt for the majority of the games. I have to question that decision and wonder what the reasoning behind the decision was...
  18. Honestly, I think our problem was Frankie...T.O. and Turner were able to get solid talent in even though they may not have been Rivals top 100 material. Callahan and staff seem to be doing a good job in hitting the large states (cali and Texas) for recruits and have had two of the best recruiting classes we've seen at NU in recent history. The problem was that period when Solich was here. Do you all remember how big a "find" Joe Dailey was??? OMG, can we please take that one back??? We just haven't had the steady leadership to keep bringing in big talent but hopefully we can continue this current streak and maybe our classes will get stronger. MAYBE.
  19. Agree, we have certainly lost talent to regular BCS teams but we have a couple of strikes against us... 1. We're in the middle of nowhere with COLD weather. 2. We're currently in a transition, yes still 3. We're not Notre Dame, USC, Texas or Florida However, we've historically done well with the talent that we've been able to get. Even if they aren't top 10 recruits or recruiting classes. I don't remember for sure but I don't even think that during our national championship run with T.O. (the REAL T.O.) that we had that great of a recruiting class. Here is my concern regarding our DB's this year. Even if we have the talent (let's conclude that it would be Bowman on one side), will Callahan step up and put one of the new guys in over Courtney Grixby? I hope he does...Let Grixby return punts or send him in as a gunner to replace Rigoni on kickoffs. HE'S JUST TOO LITTLE!!!!
  20. Let's be honest...ZT is no different than Rex Grossman, Jon Kitna, Brad Johnson or many others that are in the NFL these days. He is a smart player with no exceptional gifts but a very solid player. All of the guys mentioned above are NFL starters...imagine the level of talent sitting on some benches!!! If he's lucky enough to get picked up by a team, he could have a several year long career in the NFL. I guess with this guy you just consider the source. If you look at his profile, he's never written outside the state of Florida. Every coach he writes about he compares to either Spurrier or Meyer. He's a friggin Gator! EEEEEEW, I feel yucky just reading his article...
  21. Whether or not he is physically able to play is one thing. As MadCatNU said earlier, his mind may be elsewhere and he may not be mentally able to play. An overdose of pills doesn't happen like this, by accident. It's not that he accidentally took 10 vicadin rather than one. Something pushed Lucky over the edge and I hope that he can get it straightened out, first and foremost, for his own personal well being. Maybe, he had a reaction of some sort and it isn't technically an overdose. Until the U or his family gives us a little more, let's all just wish him the best. Football or not, I just hope he comes out of this OK and can at least get his education...Just my two cents.
  22. Michelin is now running product trials of their new airline tires...
