  1. Then what is this: AP Top 25 RK TEAM RECORD PTS 1 LSU (59) 9-0 1499 2 Oklahoma State 9-0 1398 3 Stanford 9-0 1369 4 Alabama 8-1 1334 5 Boise State (1) 8-0 1288 6 Oregon 8-1 1184 7 Oklahoma 8-1 1138 8 Arkansas 8-1 1107 9 Clemson 8-1 979 10 Virginia Tech 8-1 885 11 Houston 9-0 804 12 Penn State 8-1 725 13 Michigan State 7-2 718 14 Georgia 7-2 657 15 South Carolina 7-2 654 16 Wisconsin 7-2 602 17 Kansas State 7-2 546 18 USC 7-2 502 19 Nebraska 7-2 491 20 Georgia Tech 7-2 340 21 Texas 6-2 313 22 Michigan 7-2 264 23 Cincinnati 7-1 206 24 Auburn 6-3 181 25 Southern Miss 8-1 161 Is this what ESPNU thinks the rankings will be?
  2. I don't believe Frank got fired because of his record. In fact, when Peterson fired him there was a huge ripple of unbelief that went throughout the entire college football community. Coaches thought, 'If Solich can get fired with a 10-3 season what does that mean for the rest of us?" There were extenuating, personal reasons why Frank was fired as well. Also, Peterson did what the fans wanted him to do: CLEAN HOUSE. Be careful what you wish for. I like the direction that Bo is taking us. I expect great things coming up in the next few years.
  3. Hey All, Just checked the standings on espnu. Nebraska fell to #19 in the AP poll but only 13th on the ESPNU Fans Vote. I don't know about the coaches poll yet. I guess that's not too bad.
  4. Bo was our DC the last time we played Penn State as well. I think we can pull it off too especially since there is such an uproar at PSU what with the controversy surrounding their AD.
  5. Here is a little of our history with Penn State: The Nittany Lions and the Cornhuskers have played a total of 13 times against each other. The first game they played was in 1920 and Penn State won 20-0 at home. They didn’t play again until 1949 and Penn State won once again 22-7. The teams have played seven times since Joe Paterno has been coach for the Nittany Lions. The teams have not played since 2003 and will play for the first time in 2011. Out of all the games in which they have matched up Penn State has won 7 of the 13 games. Penn State has only lost one game at home against Nebraska and that was in 1980. Henry Schulte was the coach of Cornhuskers and Hugo Bezdek was the coach of the Nittany Lions when they first played. Nebraska has seen five different coaches come through their program since they first played against Joe Paterno. This will be the first year Nebraska is part of the Big Ten Conference but they have won five National Championships since their first season in 1890. The only game that was played at a neutral location was at the first ever Kick-Off Classic in East Rutherford, N.J. Penn State lost to Nebraska 44-6. The last time we played Penn State was in 2003. Solich was the coach and the game was in Lincoln: "The Cornhuskers running game dominated Penn State, as the Huskers won 18-10. Nebraska rushed for 337 yards on 72 carries and held the ball twice as long as Penn State, who managed only 44 yards on 21 carries."
  6. From reading comments made by PSU fans, their offense is weak but they have a good defense. Is McGloin (sp?) the pocket passer? We had great success with MSU because that's the type of passer Cousins was-right? I really like our chances against PSU. If we play PSU the way we played MSU we can beat them.
  7. Bump-Let's move on! I want to talk about next week's game. This game is over.
  8. I will say this 100 times: BO IS THE SAME COACH THAT PLAYED LIGHTS OUT FOOTBALL AGAINST MSU JUST A WEEK BEFORE!!! The problem isn't Bo. Bo told his team all week that Northwestern was going to be a tough game but they simply didn't believe it. I truly believe that we lost this game because: 1. Our kids were beat up from last week's game more than we saw, especially Rex. Rex should not have played this game. 2. Our kids overlooked this game-thought it was an easy win. Well, guess what? There ARE no easy wins in the B1G. We're realizing that now. 3. To make the statement that Taylor cannot/will not EVER make plays throwing the ball. is ludicrous! He HAS made plays throwing the ball. Just because his mechanics are weird doesn't mean he can't throw the ball. He played a great game last night. If you're going to make such sweeping statements please back them up with facts and not simply emotion. Back in the day Osborne rarely played freshman and here we are yelling for the freshmen to play. Bo is playing them but sheesh! I think that would be like feeding them to the sharks. What happens when they get out there and mess up? How will we feel then? They need time to learn the game. However, I DO think that Bo should put them in during the 4th quarter when we have won the game but I think that Bo wants to make sure his present team can play all four quarters. I think Bo is afraid that if he puts in those freshmen, the other team, still having their 1st string in could easily come back and beat us. How would we feel about that? I do, however, agree that we have no identity right now. Folks (and I'm one of them) long for the glory days but I also agree that those days are probably gone. I think that Beck is trying to build an identity but he's new at being an OC-give him some time. I think we are being very impatient as a fan base. I also think that we can win out our next three games and still make it to Indy. We'll see.
  9. Here are some interesting comments from a PSU message board about how they think they will fare this weekend: "Nebraska-23 Penn State-13 Defense can only carry a team for so long. Two second half turnovers by the offense will give Nebraska two scores. If the Lions had a quarterback worth anything, I would say Penn State wins. Penn State has everything else in place to win, except for an inept passing game. Even the best defenses get tired when they've been on the field for too long, because the offense has too many 3 and outs." "Nebraska 30 Penn State 13 We are simply too offensively predictable and short on "O" talent this year to compete with the top tier programs." (Nice being recognized as a top tier program!) "We match up against Nebraska nicely. I think that we are good against a running team. We are at home. Dereck Moye is back. We have 2 weeks to rest and prepare. I think we can hold Nebraska to 3 scores or less. This is our most winnable game (of the last three). Somehow I think the offense comes through. PSU 20- Neb.17. Here is a surprising fact: we are at the top of the B1G in defense but close to last in defense red zone scoring. We keep them out of the red zone but once they get into it, we are not that great. I hope that 1/2 the Nebraska team get minor injuries this week that keep them out for only one game. Fingers crossed! " " I think PSU wins this one. We have hung in all year and I think it continues. It will be a defensive battle. The offense needs a good game and Matt McGloin Penn State 21 Nebraska 17" Penn State 17 - Nebraska 14 "My heart tells me that Penn State will win. Penn State has found a way to win this season. My head tells me that PSU's offense will struggle which will lead to the Nittany Lion's defense tiring, and Nebraska will win. I'm going with my heart and picking Penn State." So! I also think Nebraska will win because Penn State's attention as a team will be divided since the news broke about one of their AD and Sandusky. GO BIG RED!!!!
  10. I think this will be an interesting game. We are playing in their house but I think we'll go up there and play lights out football. I'm hoping that Bo gives the boys a day off just to rest, not only physically but mentally too. I'm sure they took a beating on the social networks last night. What does Penn State have to offer? From what I read of the comments on the blog from Adam Rittenburg's column, PSU fans think their team stinks. But they may have an edge as they are playing at home? However, I remember a Nebraska team that went down to Oklahoma State and played an amazing game. I think we win this one.
  11. Hello Fellow Husker Message Board Fans, I just want to apologize if anything I said tonight offended anyone. I'm probably 'Queen Susie Sunshine Pumper' on this board. I think it comes from being a Mom and working with kiddos who most people think shouldn't even be on this planet. Please accept my apology if I offended you. No harm intended. Everyone has right to vent their frustrations, express their opinion or give their support to our team in their own way. I think that's what makes this board so special. We may have lost tonight but the one thing that no team, no matter how good they are, can take away from us is this: At the end of the day we are ALL Husker Fans. GBR!
  12. You forgot a few: 1) Compton doesn't suck. 2) Our D-Line can actually get pressure with that stand up scheme they played today. Hey, if we have to have the ends curl around our tackles in order to get pressure... DO IT. 3) E-Mart is a physical man and needs to see the field in passing situations. 4) Andrew Green played a damn good game, aside from the pass interference call. A split second sooner on that shovel from Cousins to MSU back and that play is 6 points for us. 5) Fonzie played coverage tighter than a straight jacket today. 6) Our safeties seem to be growing comfortable and totally trusted the scheme today. Looked much much better and really helped blanket receivers on the deep throws (kudos to Bo and Carl for keeping 2 deep... right announcers?). Only complaint was the boneheaded hold by Cassidy, but he played a good game. 7) We knew exactly what they were going to do when they sent a tight end in motion. The corner on that side became the safety and the safety moved down into the box. Well schemed. Just amazed by how good the D looked today. Complete 180 from what we've seen prior to this. *This was from last week. Same coach-same team. The only difference was that we won.
  13. I guess what makes us SO superior (your words not mine) is that these same people were practically kissing Bo's feet last week. The Huskers were all that and a loaf of bread! If we would've won today no one would be saying a word about having Bo fired or what a 'mediocre coach' he is or how bad our team is. I wonder if the folks on the OU board made these same comments about Bob Stoops when Texas Tech beat them or the Tech fans when Tech went on the next week to lose to IOWA STATE for crying out loud! So if this makes me a dip$ hit then I'll take it. DIP$ HITS of the world UNITE!!! Win or lose I think Bo is an average HC and a top notch DC. I will continue to support him as the HC of my team but today he failed miserably. It should be ok to say that. No one said it wasn't ok to say anything. I dont' know where this is coming from. Am I not allowed to share my opinon as well without retribution?
  14. No kidding.....Im sick of all the sunshine pumpers on this board. This is a message board where people are here to have open discussions about the team we all support. This team just played an absolutely pathetic game. What do you want people to say here? "Oh its OK boys...you tried hard....good luck next week....it was fun watching you get whipped today." Some people on this board have opinions about certain players and coaches. Who are you to tell them they can't voice their opinion? What kind of support is it when you practically kiss Bo's butt for one game then crucify him the next, eh? WE ALL HATED IT THAT THEY LOST OK? But we don't have to freak out about it. This happens every single time we lose. We all thought the game was pathetic! How long do we hold on to the hate? You can call me a sunshine pumper til you're blue in the face I don't care! But I'm sick and tired of hearing these same people go all ga ga for Bo and the boys when they win but then stick them in the toilet and flush them when they lose. Ok, they lost, it was ugly but it's over. MOVE ON!
  15. I guess what makes us SO superior (your words not mine) is that these same people were practically kissing Bo's feet last week. The Huskers were all that and a loaf of bread! 16. People keep saying that Bo is an 'average coach' yet every time there is a coaching opening Husker Nation gets all nervous that Bo is going to be in the top 5 pick. People were all up in the air when the whole Ohio State fiasco started brewing. Bo's name was near the top of everyone's list and on this board the hot topic was whether Bo would leave or not. Sorry, but I disagree. Bo is on the way to being a great coach. He's done things for this team and brought the moral of Husker Nation from the toilet where Callahan and Co. left us back up into prominence again. Before this game we were #10 in the nation. THAT is not something a 'mediocre' coach does.
  17. WE (Nebraska) HAVE THE BEST FANS!! Ask anyone in the B1G! That's something that no one can take away from us. Jason, go home. You bother me son. (jk
  18. I agree with the spirit of this. Difference between teams like OU, Alabama, LSU at the moment, and Nebraska is that they have talent stockpiled because they reside in ridiculously fruitful recruiting bases, coupled with great college head coaches. We have a good coach, and we tend to bring in decent recruiting classes. What it means is that a team like OU can legitimately call themselves a MNC contender about once every two years. NU might have to be more like a 1 run in 4 or 5 year span type of team. Might just have to accept that. There are certainly worse teams to root for in the FBS than our Cornhuskers. Didn't OU just lose to a really bad texas tech team? Yeah and then Tech got blasted by IOWA STATE? Wow...Bob Stoops should be fired along with the Texas Tech coach cause they are both B rate coaches. You know, I remember those A+ type kids when I was in school. They're still there in my home town. They're still smart but you know they had no imagination, no creativity, NO PASSION! Sorry, I'm just really tired of this type of talk. Either you support the team win or lose or you don't. I'm supporting them. I have ever since I came to Nebraska and will continue so. I may not be Nebraska born or Nebraska bred (although I've now lived in Nebraska longer than my home state of Missouri!) but when I die I will be NEBRASKA DEAD!!! GO BIG RED!!
  19. Did you feel this way about Bo last week? Didn't hear anything from you then? Or how about when we came back and beat tOSU? Didn't hear anything from you then about us being a B rate team? Last time I looked, Bo was the coach for both of those games yet no one said a word about how bad he coached or that he should be replaced. Funny how fickle we are, eh?
  20. They looked pretty good last week and no one complained. Taylor played lights out football tonight-too bad the rest of the team didn't join him. If we would've won would you have posted the above? It's only when we lose that people freak out and start complaining about Bo. Looks like NU fans have a decision to make-Either you support him whether he wins or loses or you don't. He's the same coach. It would be interesting to see if the Oklahoma fans had these types of posts on their message board after they got beat by Texas Tech who then got beat by Iowa State! It happens to everyone.
  21. It's KSU 24/OSU 34 now. Dang! I thought maybe KSU would pull off the upset.
  22. Congratulations Northwestern. Your boys played one heck of a game. Best wishes on the rest of your season! We'll see you next year
