  1. If you want to know what it takes to have a superior defense, take a look at Bama. Their d-line firing off the ball, not standing high, LB's tackling, not missing tackles. No penalties. I saw both defenses play throughout both seasons. Gotta admit tide was rollin. Gotta give the nod to bama in this head to head. We are light years behind the SEC.
  2. Amen...amen...amen.... Tommy. You are exactly right. It all starts up front. Whenever I see our defensive line get stonewalled, or meredith spin move to the inside and the outside is wide open, I cringe. I was always taught to get push up the field and when you see the qb step up, then spin move inside. I don't know, just fundamentals. We got manhandled on both sides of the ball....period. Not sustaining blocks, diving at linebackers and not engaging and holding blocks long enough. That's all fundamentals. Thank god for David, he saved our butts so many times because of screw ups up front. That is why I am excited about our new d line coach. It's pretty simple to fix and we will look much better. From an offensive standpoint, Caputo gave great effort, but he got worked! We, as my dad used to call it "titty fight" all day long in certain games. In other words, pad level to high and defensive lineman created penetration. It boggles my mind that we couldn't get that corrected. So I agree, we get the d-line and offensive line tightened up, everything else scheme wise works. When you create lanes for your LB's to run through (i.e. blitzes) a whole new world opens up. We you blitz and can't get to the qb, it's like a train wreck. GBR!!
  3. Sitting here watching the Vtech, Michigan game. One thing is pretty obvious, our defense is slow. Our defensive ends (Meredith especially) lost contain all year and we got exploited. It's very frustrating. Compton is good, but slow. David is the type of Linebacker we need to recruit and we have got to get better push up front, otherwise we are going to get worked next year. Also, offensively...I know burkhead is superman and all...but when he gets tired or is being stopped....our offense goes in the tank. We can't rely that much on one player. And last but not least,....martinez. good athlete, but maybe the qb position isn't a good fit. I have got to believe someone on our roster can open up our playbook a little more. We finally have decent receivers, but we can't get em the ball. Just frustrating.....I will go down fighting with the Big Red, it's my school and it hurts. But damn we just need one or two more players. But speed kills. Ask Wisconsin. Horn frogs severely undersized got em last year. Oregon, isn't known for size, but killed them with speed. We need some of that...please lord! GBR!!!
  4. Not using the callahan years as a baseline. Look, we have gotten better, no doubt about it. We aren't sound in a couple areas. But, most of all, we are getting better. It is painful to look at because most people are trying to compare this team to yesteryear. If you look around the league there are only a few elite programs out there that make minimal mistakes. Watching Florida and Ohio State was a train wreck. miscues all over the place we are no different. Problem is, fans on this board hold our program to a hire standard and deservedly so. But if you look around the nation, compared to everyone else, we are in the middle of the road and improving. My "callahan reference" was to point out the difference, not a baseline.
  5. Amen Knapplc......there are some things to fix for sure, I'll take 9 wins right now. We are light years ahead of the callahan years. Remember when Kansas hung 73 on us??? Kansas??? really? I am disappointed, but if the folks on this board had the ability to change coaches and influence decisions, we would have new coaches every time we lost a game. Sit back and let it play out.
  6. I know Foppa....folks are seething right now. They are in meltdown stage!
  7. Honestly, ever since that GM from the colts (can't remember his name) called Kiper out on National television, I pretty much laugh at whatever he says. Truth be told, you don't know until you strap em up. But, David is a player. May be undersized, but the kid can flat out play. Look at Dumervil in Denver, he's done fine. Nguyen played with my beloved Cowboys and did fine. He was 5'11. What about Zach Thomas?? I think he will be fine, but be a sleeper pick.
  8. I am hearing all kinds of things outta Norman......I knew stoops record late in the year was dismal.....but, folks are calling for his head and have been for years now. I didn't think it was true until I talked to a reliable source. I'm shocked! But we will have to see.
  9. Kevin Steele, Monte Kiffin, Warren Powers, Jerry Moore, Bill Myles, Tony Samuel. Just to name a few assistant coaches who left Osborne for other opportunities, both early in Osborne's career and late in his career. Steele came in after Melton left....do your homework.....wasn't a nebraska guy. Samuel left towards the end....ur grasping at straws. The bulk of the staff stayed intact. That is what made the program what it is
  10. This whole topic annoys me. when and I mean when....did we ever hear of osborne's staff leaving for a better gig....or opportunity. TO took good care of his coaches. It's about loyalty and it's all gone. Good riddance if this is true. Can't fault him...but damn..what's next??? Bo leaves for better gig....we start all over....I want Nebraska guys who want to stay here for the duration. Not jump ship at better opportunities. That is what has made our program what it is...or was before callahan! This sux!
  11. Urban Meyer wears me out. Sooner or later....the infatuation will run it's course. He is a good coach, but this love affair with him and how he loves the spotlight. And to sit there and say, "I haven't had any contact" Full of crap. I know he can't say anything. But to flat out lie. I put him in the same category as Saban walking out on Miami, Petrino leaving a note for his players as opposed to facing them as men and now this Urban........I hope we beat the crap out of Arkansas, if we face em and beat the sh*t out of Ohio State next year.
  12. I tell you what....his throwing motion looks fine in these clips...hmmmmm.....now I am confused as to why it's so exaggerated now.
  13. Hercules.........Iowa will never be on equal footing.....so i agree with you.....What's the t-shirt say????What's the difference between iowa and nebraska??? about 400 miles and 5 national championships...or something like that?? GBR!
  14. Hey hawkeye....just be lucky it wasn't worse. We got in our own way. Having a lil hawkeye for dinner tonight......tastes best grilled!!!
  15. Fourth straight 9 win season.....How many teams can say that???? Ok...now let's fire Pelini. Friggin armchair qb's.
  16. Well,, we didn't hang 50 like I wanted. Damn penalties. But we dominated like I knew we would. I can't stand mobile qb's. Iowa fans have been on me all friggin week! GBR!
  17. They don't have a mobile qb........this game won't be close. All three loses...mobile qb's, we lose contain, they exploit us. They scramble make big plays down the field. Secondary not good enough to cover for extended period. No pressure from DLine only makes it worse. Iowa doesn't stand a chance. I hope we hang 50 on em. By the way, if you told me at the beginning of the year we would beat Ohio State, Michigan State and Penn State, I would have laughed. Season has been interesting, but we proved we belong. The boys will get better. We learned alot. Big Ten is a power conference, but we will get our fair share of championships. GBR!
  18. 5 year, 38 million. Remember u heard it here first.
  19. Bo doesn't need to go, I think the schemes are there. We need to get a solid recruiting class and Bubba needs to come....NOW!!!!!
  20. Bad loss....but I knew coming in with a mobile qb we were in trouble. We can't contain and the cutback crushes us. Lack of pressure on qb also hurts. We tried blitzing but couldn't get it done. Thorell had a touch game, but he should be playing...poor kid. He got worked. Cassidy is average....but that long bomb was on stafford. he was supposed to not get beat deep and he did. But, the defense was on the field way too long. Plus, Michigan had a short field to work with, it adds up to disaster. You can't win with turnovers, it kills you. We are young, we will be back and we will get our 9 wins. It won't be pretty, but we will get that 9.
  21. I better not hear of tweeting........nothing. I am in disbelief. Reminds me 90 when OU worked us big time.
  22. Why are we always outta position? Dang, I thought we would be better than this.
