question for NU fans from a clemson fan
Bleeding Husker Red replied to patthecat's topic in Husker Football
Really, about any time prior to about 1997 or so. The CU thing was still second up until the end of the 90s. -
Oh, you think 11 wins eh? Don't expect much do ya? I don't see cu beating Mizzou. Not giving you that one. And I'm not giving you a W against NU either. Ya gotta work for that one. Right now Kansas is the favorite to win the division and WVU can be a stumbling block for you as well. That leave 6 regular season wins. Maybe you pull out one or two of these. Makes a best cast IMHO of 8. The CSU game could turn into a problem too I guess. Isn't that a rivalry game? rivalries can be tricky... In the bowl...depends on who you draw.

I'm not even goig to think about that. I'm still waiting to find out what happens to the white when the snow melts......

question for NU fans from a clemson fan
Bleeding Husker Red replied to patthecat's topic in Husker Football
I can't say I hate ANY team. There are some I get sick of hearing about but that's not the same thing. As far as the whole thing with Colorado, I guess they're our biggest 'hate' nowadays. What I hate is getting it shoved in my face all the time. Of course, if you're a Husker traditionalist like me, our biggest rival is and always will be Oklahoma. But I wouldn't call that a 'grudge' match. -
Should Bo be pissed at his salary?
Bleeding Husker Red replied to BuzzardBilly's topic in Husker Football
Big deal. I can turn an easy quarter mil at my career if I wanted to put in the the effort it would take. That's just me, not including any extra trucks I put on the road. But I'm no rookie, I've been at it 25 years. A lot of these other guys have track records in the NFL or other schools that Bo doesn't have yet. When he's been a head coach for 5 or 10 years I'm sure he'll be making a lot more we can imagine right now. Ya know, I would point out that if Bo was going to get so pissed off over this, maybe he would also have been smart enough to negotiate the bigger contract in the first place. Seems to me he must be satisfied with the deal he has right now. Watch what he gets for a raise and contract extension next after next year. We'll see if you're not complaining that it was too much. -
My previuos answer didn't do this question justice. Let's break it down. By offer, one usually means to give, or in this giving season, you probably meant to say "gift". Speed? well I know that to a snail, a turtle is fast so, therefore you could postulate that the big 12 and Clemson have turtle-like speed. Ready? in promptu esse is the latin phrase for ready, and another latin phrase "puga pyga" comes close to the area of the body that this subject was drawn from. So there we have it: A gift of the turtle is offered up from the puga pyga. GBR! Now I'm REALLY confused.....

Charlie McBride's strategy of blitzing more guys than the Offense can block with comes to mind for me. Get a Dline with some speed/agility- get off blocks quickly... send a couple of linebackers and COVER COVER COVER. If you've got 5 or 6 guys in the backfield you should be able to get some sacks, and stop any RB while he's still back there. Meet at the quarterback. He ain't gonna complete many passes from the prone position.

Yep. The guy looks like an ISU homer from the ESPN article. He might do some good things there. Cy, just make sure you give him more than 2 years to get going, k?

Iowa State Hires Auburn Defensive Coordinator As Coach
Bleeding Husker Red replied to Street Novelist's topic in Other Sports
Hey, they hired an ISU homer. That can't possibly be worse that Chizik. -
Congratulations to the 9 New Nebraska Grads!
Bleeding Husker Red replied to Scarlet Overkill's topic in Husker Football
There. Fixed that for you. And a hearty congratulations from me as well! -
Nope. I'm thinking more like 7. Yes I know they had all these players injured but that also means they all missed a year of experience. Hawkins will have ground to make up.

Legs aren't supposed to do that
Bleeding Husker Red replied to Scarlet Overkill's topic in Other Sports
Unfortunately that's not the first time I've ever seen something like that happen. -
I don't think they're looking for someone to make coffee....

Coaches on Next Year's Hotseat...
Bleeding Husker Red replied to Bleeding Husker Red's topic in Other Sports
Which, if I'm not mistaken is next year. I think Cody was a junior this year. -
I think ot 10 wins or Dan Hawkins is a bust in Boulder. Might be a new guy in 2010....
-
That would make ISU our top rival..... Until the Blacksshirts rush the ISU sidelines and..well, I won't finish that thought...
-
Ummm.. no. No they couldn't. Not unless the University of Iowa suddenly loaded the whole school up on a rocket ship and moved to the Crab Nebula. ISU can get better, but it's going to be decades before they supplant Iowa. Yes it was. Historically Missouri has been a bigger thorn in our sides. There was a time (before Devaney) when the big 8 belonged to Oklahoma and Missouri. Mizzou was VERY strong even into the 1970s. ISU was never strong like that. Well, we ARE college football royalty. The 4rth winningest team of all time. But, given...I don't think ISU should downgrade. I'm just saying if they did I'd only see them going D1-aa , not D2. Although, if anything the *MIGHT* fit better in a basketball oriented conference..I've always seen ISU as a basketball school, but that's just me. Try once every couple of decades. And they havent won a conference title since, what? 1912? When they were Missouri Valley Conference CO_champions with guess who? NEBRASKA! And Good in college is different than good in the Non-Football League. I think we've established that clearly in other threads. So that's not germain. I say again, not even Turner can save ISU right now. And I hope to God he doesn't take a job anywhere in the Big 12 except right here. If the Cyclones want to be consistantly good at football, I think they need to rebuild from the ground up. It's going to take more than just 'the right coach'. It's going to have to start in the athletic department.

never say never. If Bo wants him, then there's a chance.

Coaches on Next Year's Hotseat...
Bleeding Husker Red replied to Bleeding Husker Red's topic in Other Sports
Hell, he's on the hot seat NOW. -
you want intrastate rivalries in Nebraska, you need to follow D2 football. UNO vs UNK anybody?
-
Don't be shocked if ISU grabs a former Husker........
Bleeding Husker Red replied to Blackshirtsguru's topic in Other Sports
Turner needs to stay at UB. If anything, I have a feeling Notre Dame may be open next year. That might be worth waiting for if the option is ISU now.
