  1. Good Lord! Nebraska just gets done running one coaching staff out of town (and deservedly so), and people here want more changes. Let these guys have a couple of years to do their thing. One of the reasons that Nebraska was so good for many years was that they were very consistent in their staff.
  2. Wanna make a bet against the spread? Loser goes streaking down through the quad, up to the gymnasium? well thank jesus he didn't show up to take that bet... Yeah, he was pretty damn close to guessing that one right!!!!! As much as many here dislike Mark May (it's refreshing when he calls out Holtz), he's been pretty spot on about us over the last 2-3 years. It does suck hearing it from a cocky tool, though.
  3. But most of those people don't have huge heads that talk up the whole widescreen when I'm watching in HD. That guy has a huge melon and it drives me nuts how much of the camera it takes up. and his ego is even bigger I have mizzou winning 52-28 thank you for supporting the claim.......... i think your "reputation" says enough.... What does the score last night say about your "reputation"? Maybe you're the one that doesn't know what he's talking about.
  4. My expectations HAVE been lowered. I don't think the coaching staff is trolling here looking for ideas, either. But 11+ penalties and the inability of our players to make the tackle on the first hit says fundamentals and discipline (and probably talent) are sorely lacking. The bench IS a coach's best friend. Well, the defense was literally uncoached and was not a priority for the last 4 years. You can't expect miracles in one spring practice and one fall practice. And, as much as I don't want to say it and it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game, the officiating was pretty one-sided lat night. We were flagged for many of the same things that Missouri wasn't. That is going to happen until we start winning more. It's better now and will continue to get better. The players have a good attitude and are playing hard, they are just making mistakes. Benching players for a mistake made at full speed sends the wrong message to the team. Besides, once you have benched most of the defensive players after Macklin's TD on the first series and all of the offensive line after our failure on our second series, who would be playing?
  5. Nah, you're fine. And you're not the "enemy" either. You're just another college football fan that likes to talk about the game with other football fans. Who knows? Once you are exposed to all of the class and culture on this board you will become a Nebraska fan...
  6. Hang in there, buddy! You'll be okay... If you get too wound up, just take Uncle Cy's advice. You know that he would never steer you wrong.
  7. I doubt that is what you thought while he was running all over the Florida Gators in the Fiesta Bowl. Would be interesting to see how you turned out if you had his childhood. You've got to be kidding. Phillips came to Menninger's in Topeka to address all of these problems after whacking his girlfriend. He, just like most other punks, was good at saying what he was supposed to and doing what he was supposed to so that he could get back on the field. As soon as he wasn't under Ozzy's thumb he went right back to being a thug. There are literally millions of kids who have had it just as bad or worse than Phillips did. I had a couple in my platoon in the Marines. Can't say that they ever tried to run anyone over because of losing a pickup football game, or because of a girl, or any of that crap. They did, however, get awarded a Presidential Unit Citation. Philliips was, and is, immature and undisciplined. He is also a habitual criminal.
  8. Run blocking is a lot harder than pass blocking. You have to be quick and explosive. you have to have excellent timing to coordinate your block with not only the person beside you, but all of the blockers and the back. It isn't just all shoving someone around. Think of track athletes. While they are all in fine shape and great athletes, you can't expect to turn a sprinter into a distance runner, and vice versa. You can't expect a sprinter, just because he is fast, to be a good hurdler. Run blocking takes great footwork, more quickness and a better reaction time than pass blocking. It takes practice and technique to be able to leverage and turn a tackler out of the way. It also takes a certain nasty streak. Much of pass blocking is defensive, getting in the way of rushers and absorbing punishment. The best offensive linemen are comparable to decathletes, who may not be the best at all techniques, but are very good at all of them. I'm not saying that these guys can't do it, but you can't expect them to learn the timing and techniques needed in one spring and one fall.
  9. And give him several shots in the ear hole by the high school defense.
  10. That reminds me of something that happened when I went to a Mizzou game a couple of years ago: At half time I paid a visit to the restroom and put a urinal to good use (we actually call them Missouri drinking fountains where I come from but that's beside the point). Some guy in a Missouri clown suit was using the urinal beside me. We finished at the same time and he hustled over to the sink to wash his hands as I started to walk out...he sees me so he yells "Hey Iowa State Fan...here at MU they teach us to wash our hands after we take a piss..." so I says back to him "Hey Missouri Fan...at ISU they teach us not to piss on our hands...." That's right, Cy! And he also had to use a tall urinal rather than a short one, since that long of a shot is hard to make with such a short barrel. But his wife/sister likes it.
  11. That's why they actually play the game. I can't think of anything more satisfying than watching Chase Daniel walking off the field after a loss in Lincoln, other than listening to the WHB 810 talking heads cry on Monday. Or maybe watching Daniel take a helmet to the ear hole.
  12. Right there with you, Cy!! The Balloon Man doesn't exactly strike fear in the hearts of our opponents, does he?
  13. At least we never have an entire section vacated like Colorado did a couple of years ago.
  14. Techniques and footwork are completely different. Big difference in quickness and explosiveness required. You can't teach it in one spring and one fall. If this were the case, how come Nebraska's 2004 and 2005 offensive lines were such lousy pass blockers?
  15. No one can (That emoticon is now obligatory when answering any BRI post. Failure to do such will result in a ban.) Jealousy is such an ugly emotion... And so is yo momma! OH SNAP This may be the most well thought out, most meaningful and entertaining discussion on the board lately! Keep spreading the love, guys!
  16. Or a useful function when you are quite positive you have heard everything you've ever want to hear from one person. Afraid of what they might say? Especially disturbing for a moderator...isn't this supposed to be a land of free speech? Who says I use it? Or any moderator for that matter. What the hell does this have to do with free speech? Yes, the US is the land of free speech, but it's blackshirt's board. He can allow or disallow whatever he wants. Like the word b*******. I just think that if you don't want to hear other people's opinions, you have no business on a board like this. Isn't that the whole idea? As long as the person is not obscene, they should not be disallowed simply for the content of their message. God knows some people don't want to hear opposing viewpoints. It's bad for their self-esteem.
  17. Should Missouri win, I will be disappointed. But I won't be mad. To get mad over a football game is a little over the edge. If you want to get mad, get mad about a never-ending war in Iraq and Afghanistan. If you want to get mad, get mad about the economy. But don't get mad about a football game.
  18. Good Lord! We can't show good sportsmanship! That makes us bad fans!!
  19. Semper Fi, Mac...2nd Force Recon Co. Do I like Nebraska to lose? No. Do I expect them to win every game? No, that is unrealistic. I want them to win every game, but how often does that happen? To expect Nebraska to win every game, without room for anything else, sets one up for failure and disappointment. This attitude is exactly what led to Solich's firing after a 9-3 regular season and brought on the Callahan disaster. It is also unrealistic and childish, born of fans spoiled by years of success. To question a fan's loyalty simply because of realism and acceptance of the current state of the team is the height of arrogance. There seems to be a lot of that on this board. There are a core group of contributors who seem to dominate discussions, and who don't want to hear the opinions of others. These people insult those who don't agree with them, but are so thin-skinned that they can't accept criticism. I have two degrees from Nebraska, and have been to over 100 games since 1961. I have traveled all over the country to follow the team. But I guess that I am a lousy fan in some people's eyes since I don 't blindly expect Nebraska to win every game against every opponent.
  20. Or a useful function when you are quite positive you have heard everything you've ever want to hear from one person. Afraid of what they might say? Especially disturbing for a moderator...isn't this supposed to be a land of free speech?
  21. The defense will be back by the end of this season. They will win enough games to go to a bowl game, and will have an extra month of practice. They will be better next year, and will go to a better bowl. The team and the coaching staff will have matured, and Pelini will have a couple of recruiting classes. After that, they will compete with the best of them.
