  1. I doubt Frazier has one of the top 2 spots, but I wouldn't worry too much about that, this whole list is an absolute crock. Vince Young is way too high, Archie Griffen is way too low, and Reggie Bush and John Elway shouldn't be anywhere near this list (and this is coming from a diehard Broncos fan). Personally, I'm pretty disappointed that Byron White won't be making the list from CU. On the mount rushmore of early football greats, you'd have to put Whizzer White right next to Red Grange.
  2. Come on our board and say this? And we're gonna... agree? Bryant was great during his era. But the foward pass was barely used in college. Let go of the numbers you stare at. Osborne won in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The greatest coach EVAH. Thanks for your time. Buh bye. Let's do the fun game that Husker fans love to play with Colorado fans, shall we? Bryant's National Championships: 6 Osborne's National Championships: 3 "nuff said" In all seriousness, you can't discredit Bryant on account of the era of football that he coached in. I mean, do you honestly believe that the Huskers would have continued their reign of dominance through the present if Osborne hadn't stepped down as head coach? I've got news for you pal, football isn't the same now as it was then. The rules are different, opposing coaches are smarter, and opposing players are stronger and faster. If you took Osborne in his prime and put him in the modern era, he'd probably be a great coach, but not one of the all time greats. The same could be said for Bryant. You have to judge them on their accomplishments regardless of the decades they coached in. Both coaches were great, but Bryant was more dominant for a longer period of time.
  3. What the hell is a thrist? And besides, "I'm thinkin' Arby's" would be a WAY better choice
  4. I realize that you're pandering to the home crowd here, but how can you mark NU as a team that's definitely "getting better"? I wouldn't start handing the Huskers wins before Bo and Ganz show how effective they can be together. As far as KU is concerned, I think we're likely looking at a team that peaked in their win over Nebraska earlier this season. I believe that they'll be sustainable as a solid team going forward, but I have plenty of doubts as to whether they'll ever be as spectacular as they were this year. Reesing is a stud, and Mangino is great, but I'm not sold on the team as a whole... aside from that, even you'll admit that the Jayhawks' schedule was remarkably easy this year. Let's see how they fare next year when Oklahoma AND Texas are on their slate. Missouri's the one team in the division that I feel could have sustainable success going forward. That Maclin kid is unbelievable, and if they can find a suitable replacement for Daniel after he graduates, that team could be consistently top quality for the next 5+ years. My Buffs are recruiting very well this offseason, so there's a lot of kool aid flowing around Boulder. Were it not for the murderous schedule we have to deal with next season, I'd say the Buffs are near ready to make a major leap. As is, I think they'll be one of the best 7 or 8 win teams in the country in 2008. Iowa State's a real wild card. If they play every week next year like they did for the last 5 weeks of this year, they'll be bowling as well. KSU? Who knows.
  5. Well, it's not like it's any kind of a rivalry game... The only people that think that game is a rivalry is Colorado fans....I will not call that a rivalry game, because I am not going to legitimize their crappy football program or fans that have no class. From here on out, I will not call Nebraska a rivarly because I'm not going to legitimize their unjustifiably snooty football program or fans that boo their coaches' children and respond to losing with death threats. Can I get a "touche" from the congregation?
  6. Is it a purebred puppy? I think "inbred" would be a pretty clever Husker reference
  7. Just a little constructive criticism... does anyone think this board is WAY too strict with its organization of threads? This has got to be the single most meticulously arranged sports forum on the internet.
  8. I apparently should have added one of these thingies:
  9. Just admit it, BeachBuffs. You're a Nebraska alum, aren't you?
  10. I beg to differ, I find watching year end games to be far more enjoyable when the only thing on the line is a larger payout, increased alumni donations, and a likely spot in the next year's preseason top 25 poll (which, just for the record, should also continue to exist as it makes a great deal of sense and is marvelous).
  11. Just for the record, Florida International and Southeastern Louisiana need to be excluded from your "any team can beat any other team" assertion.
  12. If Ohio State and Georgia end up in the NC, Eric Crouch should put on some pads and quarterback the Bulldogs. As I see it, the only thing that's going to kill the BCS is a manifestation of the absolute worst case scenario (like if Miami had lost to Virginia Tech in 01). I'd much rather have the BCS season go horribly wrong than have it end the way it's designed to.
  13. Ever entertained the possibility that you might be the one who doesn't know how to act?
  14. Three words, compadre: LET IT GO. Good lord, it's becoming pretty obvious here that you're a flagbearer for an army that either doesn't exist or doesn't care on this one. CU's fans were bad in the past - congratulations! I certainly hope you solicit a large measure of your life's satisfaction from the allegations of what happened in Folsom twenty years ago! The refs cleared a section of CU students (I repeat, a section of students, not the student section) for throwing garbage on the field, (something which happened at Lincoln in 2002 and 2005, but let's not get into that again) once again, way to go! I'm so happy that you're able to validate your existence by merit of this worthless occurance! CU students make Florida students look like saints, eh? Marvelous! Well done, you king of industry! Here's one for you: You personally make Mike Sanford look like a gracious loser.
  15. To call a program a has been does not mean that you believe that program has no chance of ever coming back to dominance again. Realize this: Nebraska IS a has been, but that doesn't mean you'll always be a has been. In all likelihood, you'll be a present power once more, then a has been again, and come back to success another time after that. This is how things work. Colorado's a has been right now as well, we're just on our upswing at this point, so the media doesn't portray us that way anymore. Invest in futures of Kansas Jayhawks has been status, without a doubt they'll be there within the next 24 months.
  16. I agree about the CU cheerleaders. Unfortunately all of the preposterously attractive cheerleader candidates at CU get scooped up by the Broncos or the Nuggets, so on gameday we get stuck with a bunch of girls that were 2nd teamers on their highschool cheerleading squads. Lame! And by the way, my comment you're referencing didn't say anything about a degree at CU being superior to one from NU, all I was saying was that one of your fellow Husker folks seems to have an inordinately high (and possibly unhealthy) level of disdain for Colorado. This thread was dead in the water, the game was several days passed, and then all the sudden he starts up again with a rambling unneccesary rant against CU. That's all I was getting at.
  17. Here's a fun thought.. in 3 games 1435 yards passing, 16 TDs.. 89 completions on 152 attempts for a final QB rating of 163.38...awesome! Plus 20 rushes for 93 yards and 3 more TDs. Stretch that out to 12 regular season games- 80 Rushes for 372 yards and 9 TDs plus 356 completions out of 604 passes for 5740 yards and 64 TDs.. Keep going at the rate he's going and he might score 73 friggin touchdowns.... I know it won't happen but isn't it fun to imagine? I think you're being far too pessimistic, Husker Red... I'd prefer to multiply the last half of football he played this season to a 12 game performance: 48 touchdowns with 72 interceptions. Now THOSE are some numbers I could get behind!
  18. Look, I'm not trying to say that TO is a bad guy, in fact I think he's a genuinely good human being. However, I made a docile comment about how people in Nebraska talk about Tom Osborne the same way that people in Denver talk about John Elway, and your homeboy hskrdedhed for whatever reason decided to take that statement as an opportunity to paint Elway as a talented creature of pure evil and Osborne as an infallible bastion of unfaltering integrity. Well, though he is a good man, he has in fact faltered in terms of integrity on more than one occasion, so I pointed these things out as a rebuttal. In 1990, after his first stringers had been beat at home by CU, and after his third stringers had been beaten at a neutral site by Georgia Tech, Osborne voted GT #1 in the final coaches poll, and CU #3. Not #2, but #3. This is a fact. Number two could have been defensible, but voting them number three was nothing more than a childish move by an obviously still bitter Osborne. Had Osborne voted CU #1, or even if he had voted them #2, CU would have had a unanimous NC. As far as Phillips is concerned, one cannot deny that Osborne chose to compromise the integrity of his program in exchange for a better chance at a national championship. This is also a fact. He kept Phillips on the field when he wasn't actively in the court room, when even most SEC coaches would have suspended Lawrence for his egregiously bad decisions and actions. Like I said before, I think Osborne is a very good man, but just like the rest of us, he's not perfect.
  19. Nobody cares about that womanizing , cheating , used car salesman. Tom Osborne is a class act. Elway is a sleezeball. He was a hell of a QB though. Please dont ever bring Elway into a thread about Osborne. Next thing we know you'll be talking about Rae Curruth. Wow, that reaction was certainly appropriate. Very impressive. And you're right, Tom Osborne is a class act through and through, just ask Lawrence Phillips. Or you could ask the 1990 coaches poll... really, either one.
  20. I'm enjoying this. These stories really remind me of all the "this one time I met/saw John Elway..." tales that I still hear around Denver all the time.
  21. Wait... who's in the lead on this contest right now?
  22. Honestly man, I don't know what CU grad stole your job or your wife, but it's time to move on. The game happened almost 4 days ago now, you can let it go now. Your lame duck coach just got fired, and your program's messiah is out shopping for a new direction for Husker football, I think it'd be a little healthier to have your attention fixed on that process instead. Don't worry, there'll be plenty of time for your stories in 2009, just save them for now.
